The God of Conquest

David took her by the hand and led her to a seat. it must be really hard for her he thought to himself as the two of them sat down. To suddenly be plucked out of the life you know. I guess the same happened to me but she can't even fal back on talking to others. The twinge of guilt that he felt every time he looked at her flaired up once more. |

She looked at the seat, then at David with an expression that screamed. Okay, but what about this thing? Being from the ocean and not having a butt until just recently, Shana had no idea what sitting was. It'd probably be much easier than walking though. |

David was a little frustrated with himself again. Once more he had worked under an assumptions built on social conditioning. Somehow he just served to continually forget that Shana would know nothing of human practices. Even something as simple and obvious as a chair would be foreign to her. He sat down himself to imply the purpose of the chair to her and began to consider the various other social norms to which he had been conditioned that would be innapropriate. Whatever meal was coming would undoubtedly be another, after all, eating underwater likely didn't use human utensils. Not for one seoncd did he think trying to assist Shana to blend in would be easy but it was looking like it would be even more difficult than he had originally anticipated. He only hoped that she was perceptive enough to learn through visual cues. Lacking a reliable means of communication other than charades was only making everything more difficult. |

Ah, she wasn't sure how useful such structures really were, but she did notice that her feet had begun to ache. She pulls out a chair and ever so carefully placed her behind in the seat. After that walking charade, she was sure that all this above water nonsense would be overly complex, so it was quite the pleasant surprise that sitting was easy. She still didn't trust it to be as simple as it first appeared, though. Gabriel then joins them at the table. This time he wore the robes no longer but the casual medieval looking wear of the common citizen. He puts on a pleasant smile and folds his hands. "Before I set the fire, I thought we could have a little conversation first, so that we can be a bit more comfortable with each other. First, any meal preferences? I'm not a phenomenal cook, but it is enjoyable, at least I believe so." |

Fire. David thought. That is another thing to watch out for, better make sure she doesn't burn herself. "I have no preferences, anything will be fine. Truth be I am not terribly familiar with the cuisine of Griswold... or really any of the social pracitces so I apologise if we do something to offend you at some point." David said in response to the question. Shana will likely need assistance here. I really need to find some way to speak to her directly. Man, even gravity would be a fairly distance concept to her. |

"Well, we don't actually have too much that you'd call unique. All I can prepare are a few stews, a seedcake or two, basic meat dishes and such, and I wouldn't expect you to know much about our cuisine, especially since you're an outlander. And since you aren't picky, I'll simply prepare some smoked eel." Gabriel gets up and leaves the building. Footsteps are heard outside. |

David looked up at the roof for a second and a stray thought passed through that he adressed to God. More eel. I bet you think you are being funny don't you. He then considered the other meals that were mentioned. Seemed appropriate with david's assertions of the time period. He figured this was likely at some point during the dark ages. This 'wizard' was likely an early title for a scientist, hence the experiments. He didn't know if it was coincidence and he was in some fantasy land or if he had time traveled though. He certainly lacked the knowledge of an ancient nation of Griswold. His thoughts were interupted by the sound of footsteps outside. It was loud enough to be notable but certainly didn't alarm David. Thus far he had establishe dhimself as just a simple outlander. As far as he knew he had no enemies here and the people seemed fairly friendly. |

Shana wasn't keen on the fact that David quite clearly had a method of communicating with others in this weird, dry world, but from the sound of it, it did have some underlying logic. That meant it could be conquered. Gabriel returns with the meat and starts up the fire, pulling out a cast iron pan setting to work. |

David looked at Shana and could see she was uncomfortable. He didn't blame her. He felt just as out of place when he went to her city. She had helped him then though, and David had no intention of abandoning Shana until he found some way for her to get back home. Once more the guilt panged at him as he remembered that her strife was his fault. |

"Hm, so..." Gabriel says preparing the dish,"What brings you to Griswold in the first place?" |

I wish I knew myself David thought. "I suppose it is simply cosmic coincidence. We had no real intention, Griswold and Roan was just where we ended up I suppose." It was a truth though it left out the suprenatural circumstances of their coming to be here. |

"Cosmic coincidence, hm? You don't look like one to be easily persuaded by astrology. And what about your companion? She has said a thing this whole time. Does she not like me?" That was hard to tell, considering the only emotion at that moment was a mix of hunger (from the smell of cooking meat that now filled the cabin) and irritation. |

"yes well she doesn't speak I'm afraid..." David quickly thought of a cover story that would explain her strange behaviour. Gabriel was clearly intelligent so perhaps he would accept a head injury, yes that would work. "You see, we were in an accident recently and she took an unfortunate blow ot the head. Since then she has lost almost all of her memories. Everything seems foreign to her now, even speech." It made more sense than her being a mermaid who magically grew legs when she accidentally stowed away on some kind of mystic teleportation. Hell, David was starting to believe he was the one with a brain injury and all this was just a fantasy. As dreams go, he'd had much worse. Edited by Mistriousfrog, Apr 19 2013, 01:28 AM.

"Forgot everything you say? Well can't do much about that. However, staying here in a place like this surrounded by language will at least help with relearning English." Gabriel pulls out a few dishes and begins pouring the broth covered eels onto each one. "You'd be surprised how quickly the human mind can learn language when it has to. If she stays in a similar environment, Shana will be fluent within the next couple of months." |

months... the last few environments had me there for hours at the most. Will we really have that kind of time. "I hope so. It would be nice to be able to communicate with her better." He rested his head in his hands as he stared at Shana for a moment in thought before catching himself and shaking it slightly before turning back to Gabriel. "So you mentioned experiments. Would that mean you are some kind of scientist?" |
