"Close," Gabriel sets down the silverware on the table, a knife for each of them before turning back to the food,"What I do is far more beneficial for the world at large, though it is very close to the largely idea-based mechanics of science." A plate of stew looking stuff is set down. The broth was yellow and a bit greasy looking with long strips of seared white meat sitting in it. Not the picture of delectability to say the least. Did smell pretty good though. |

Largely based in principals of science, but beneficial to the world at last. If I am right about the time period that would make him a revolutionist. "Thank you for that. It is very kind of you to take care of strangers as you are." he said out loud choosing once again to keep his suspicions to himself. Being an outlander with a different perspective to the normal is fine but he had to be careful not to seem to know too much. |

"No bother to me really, especially since you two are far more interesting than you let on," Gabriel takes a seat and spears the meat in his dish, eating the entire strip in a single bite,"Especially odd is your obviously non-human right hand." He spoke with a full mouth, but his sentence was no less clear. Shana had largely stopped paying attention, wolfing down her dish. |

David swallowed and paused awkwardly trying to think of how to respond to the statement. He was right after all. The mechanical hand was indeed strange especially for a setting such as this. He stared at the hand as he closed and opened it experimentally for a moment. "I suppose you are right. With our peculiarities I suppose the intelligent would find an interest in it. Unfortunately I can't tell you a lot about this particular peculiarity, I don't even understand it myself. All I know is that is works as a regular hand but is stronger and harder than steel." Even though it was probably better than his original hand due to it having increased potential for only sacrificing precise dexterity which he would use his right hand for anyway, he still looked at it regretfully. Somehow this false appendage would have to be something he would get used to but that didn't mean he had to like it. |

"Is that so?" He said, spearing another eel. "Seems odd to have something like that and be clueless about it." A pause. "Are you going to eat?" David certainly didn't feel hungry. Maybe it was just a side effect of being dead. |

"Uh, yeah, sorry, thanks." David spluttered out awkwardly before putting taking a little and eating it. He'd never been a big seafood fan but food is food and He suspected that even if he wasn't hungry now he would regret not eating later. His supposed death taking away the need for food didn't even occur to him. "I know it is odd that I don't know more. You see a little while ago" he began keeping vague that it was actually earlier today "I was fighting some kind of horrible beast. Lots of claws. Well I managed to subdue the beast but lost my hand in the process. When the battle was finally over, I passed out from tiredness and This hand was afixed to me when I awoke. I never found its origins." It was a mostly true rendition of the events that occurred. |

The food was pretty good, it wasn't fantastic, but it was nice to have something in the gullet. Simple too, but some of the best dishes are better that way. "So, you're a warrior then," Gabriel goes on, a hint of fascination rising in his voice. "How did that happen? And why didn't Shana help you? Well I'm assuming you've been traveling with her for quite some time." Oh, asking for details. Things could get tricky. Meanwhile, Shana sat there, her dinner finished, listening intently to the weird mouth-sounds David and Gabriel were using. She was determined to figure out what they meant, even if they didn't really make sense. |

"Well this was before we traveled together you see." Details, this could get tricky. David ensured that he remembered all of the various details that he had given so far. It had been mostly true but he knew he needed to remember that Shana was his sister. In addition he had labeled himself a warrior to the guard but hadn't mentioned it to Gabriel. Odd, but perhaps word simply spreads fast in a small town such as this. David had begun to trust Gabriel but suspected their meeting may have been less serendipitous than it first appeared. Choosing to put this hunch aside for now he continued his explanation. "We only started together after she stopped being able to function with people by herself. As for me being a warrior, well, It is true I guess but I think the bigger thing is that I needed some sort of career to get through that gate." |

Gabriel folds his hands and thinks for a few minutes. During that time, Shana picks the wax out of her ears, sniffs it then removes it from her finger in disgust. Grace at its pinnacle. When the man-whose-occupancy-is-still-unknown looks up and mischievous glint is in his eyes. "I think I have a way to solve your problem, while helping me out at the same time. I could allow you and Shana to live here rent-free, at least for awhile. While here I could help familiarize you with the current going ons and help teach Shana here literacy. In return, I want to study that fascinating right hand of yours. It won't be anything that would damage it if your description is correct. Sound like a fair deal?" |

Agreeing to this seemed obvious and did almost did it without a second thought. But the that second thought came and the implications along with it. Gabriel would be studying a technology which was superior to even David's time period back when this was by David's estimate some time in the dark ages. If Gabriel were to unlock any of its secrets that would have serious and lasting effects on the time stream. Humanity's technological future would advance considerably and not necessarily for the better. David came to the conclusion that he would agree only if be sure it would not cause a paradox by doing so. "It is a good offer. But before I can agree I must ask. What year is it, and do you know of the nation of England?" |

Gabriel scratches his head, a couple white flakes become visible in the din light. He was obviously quite perplexed, but he was still game. "That's a rather peculiar question. The year's 1282, and as for your other query, I've never heard of this Englend, and the name doesn't really strike me as something that'd suit a country. So is your answer yes?" |

David took a moment to thing carefully about the implications of his answer before deciding. 1282... that wouldn't be too far off his guess that it couldn't be his own world but equally this man had never heard of England. They were speaking English. Odds were against David having developed some sort of Babel fish effect or he would be able to understand Shana as well. They had structures and technology that seemed to reflect western influence. Odds were heavily against this being within his own timeline but either a parallel one or simply another world that had developed along the same path. Actually, odds were highest that this was some kind of crazy dream but David chose not to rely on that theory because doubting reality was a dangerous thing to do. "Very well." He decided. "I will accept your generous offer. I should warn you to be careful though. Just because such technology exists, it does not mean you are ready for it. It is dangerous for a society to move too fast." David wasn't terribly keen on being responsible for this world's equivalent of a nuke. |

Gabriel smiled ear to ear. He'd have people to talk to, and exciting new things to learn! Probably. He gets out of his chair and picks up the plates, dumping them into a bucket that was probably the equivalent of a sink. He reseats, this time lounging back comfortably, his hands folded over his stomach. "We should relax. It's about to be dark anyways, and there have been strict laws against lighting candles put in place recently, so once the sun sets we should go to sleep immediately. There shall be plenty of time to further set up rules and explore tomorrow." |

David nodded in agreement. He was glad that Gabriel was being so reasonable, especially considering how strange and likely ominous a great deal of what David was saying must have been. "Thank you for your understanding. Do you have somewhere we can sleep then?" |

"Honestly," Gabriel starts, both hesitant and a bit red-faced,"I don't get visitors so there's only the one bed and these chairs. Unless of course, you want to sleep on the floor. How about this," He continues, now leaning forward and adopting a more serious demeanor. "Shana gets the bed and you and I can sleep in here?" Shana was picking her teeth and staring into space disinterested, but still listening. Talking was so weird. They shifted emotional gear so often that it was hard to follow along.
