The God of Conquest

He didn't want to admit the thought before the clerk said it bluntly but somehow he knew that Gabriel would be wrapped up in this in some way. There are no coincidences after all. The longer this went on the more it seemed like a dream, it was just too perfect as a story. Even so, David doubted that Gabriel could be this knight, after all he looked like he lacked the strength to consistently kill like that. On the other hand, his interest in David's hand as a potential weapon certainly made more sense than before. Then there was the vague references to 'experiments'. David began to frown. It worried him that the more he considered it, the more it made sense that Gabriel was some sort of serial killer. Still, this was probably just paranoia talking. "Tell me" He began thoughtfully. "Just why is Gabriel known as the wizard?" So far he had expected it was because Gabriel had done some sort of scientific feat which seemed like magic to others, but perhaps there was more to it than that. The man's body tenses up a bit. Nobody referenced the wizard by name. This was one to keep an eye on. "He's a wizard because he does thing that aren't just natural. Oi, he'll go out in the morning with nothing but damned stones, then return the next day with an armful o' gems! It just isn't right! If that shit isn't magic, I don't know what is." The man scratches his nose as he sits there in mild outrage. |

David breathed a sigh of relief. Either he is an alchemist or it was as he thought, Gabriel's mind was likely ahead of his time. Now it was time for the big one. "Tell me, other than the fact that he is the only one who is able to leave the village unscathed, is there any other correlation between The wizard and The black knight?" It would be appopriate names to link up if nothing else. |

"I don't fucking know. Figure it out yourself." And that was all he'd say about anything. |

"Very well I just might. Before I go though, I think there is a good chance that I will end up fighting this Black Knight in the forseeable future, is there any chance that I could get a sword to help give me a better chance of victory?" |

"No. Swords are expensive. Get your own." Well that sucks for you. |

David wasn't surprised by this, the universe seemed intent on depriving him of a weapon after all. "Oh well, it was worth a shot. Thanks for the info though." He decided that the next place to go would be where he was meant to meet up with Gabriel. At the very least, he deserved a chance to explain what if anything he knows. He knew he would have to be careful with his words. Perhaps this possible connection to the black knight was the source of David's instinct to be reserved before. |

David and Shana reached the city gates after a short walk, and Gabriel wasn't there. Either you were early, or he was late. The sun was higher up in the sky, but it was still early in the morning. And there was a big clock, but he couldn't really read it. What do? |

It was unlikely hat it had been two hours, he had just walked around town after all. David decided that given there was one district of the town he was still yet to see, it may be worth looking into before the designated time. David decided to take a look at the government building in the south of town. They might have more information on Gabriel and this Black knight after all. |

The government building was by far the largest building in the whole village. It was at least two stories high, painted white(so far the only painted building seen in all of Roan) and glowed a faint blue in the sunlight. You could almost smell the pretentiousness. In front of David was a pair of large wooden double doors with a highly noticeable hunk of metal lock built in. It really contrasted the rest of the building, so it was probably added more recently. |

Well at least it is clear they take their government seriously. David thought to himself as he looked up at the impressive building. odd that it would be locked at this time of day though. He checked the door closer to make sure the large lock was actually barring entry as it appeared from afar and if so he knocked on the door. |

The door opened, but the scene inside wasn't very interesting. There was a secretary passed out on top of a pile of papers. To the right were a set of stairs that went... somewhere. In the next room, behind the secretary would probably be the leader(s?)'s office or maybe living space. |

Another secretary, David only hoped that one with government affiliations would have an accent that wasn't so painful to listen to. Oh, and also that he could help in the information department, but the accent was oddly enough his first thought. Poor spoken english was something of a pet peeve to him, though he had remained reserved about it thus far. Was it even English they were speaking though? Perhaps, David just happened to be speaking Griswoldian... He stood still for a few seconds longer than he should have in a daze as he considered the implications of this question of language. Eventually he decided to just accept it and be thankful for the convenience rather than try and figure it out and accidentally ruin it. He approached the clerk at the front fairly casually. He was an outlander in a government building now, best not to draw very much attention. "Good day to you, This is the government centre of the town correct?" |

The clerk was asleep. Even Shana could see that, as shown by the snickering behind him. Stop thinking too hard about regional linguistics and pay attention to your surroundings. |

David put his hand up to his face, partly from embarrassement for himself for his lack of observation, and partially for the annoying situation of the clerk being asleep. This left an awkward situation, would waking them up be a social feax pas, or would they be expected to be awake in this situation. Could he just walk past and see whoever may or may not be behind in what David assumed would be an office. Once more, the feeling of being an outsider rose up but David deceided to rely on his own values as he had thus far, odds were against sleeping at the desk of what was probably the government building beind acceptable after all. He gently shook the secretary's shoulders in an attempt to wake them up. |
