From a facedown position David mumbled something dryly.
"that seemed unnecessary."
He raised himself and then helped Shana up before then dusted himself off.
"So then Gabriel, where to?"

"Well, we should go to the beach. Lots of mostly flat expanses, and there's water nearby in case we need to put out any fires." Gabriel gives a lighthearted chuckle as he turns around, so he could go around the village walls.

David followed him. After all, he was in a foreign country and the entire premise of them leaving was to perform Gabriel's experiments. Better to wait until they were a littler further away from the village before asking the questions he had though.

10 minutes passed in silence and now the village was far behind them. In all directions were rolling hills of grass, it could almost be described as a zone of green hills. Although there was no sign of change in the landscape, now the wind carried with it a faint scent of the sea. It actually was quite a nice day. There were few clouds in the sky now, and a blue expanse went up as high as David could see. This was reinforced by a blue prick of light that was still on its way up the sky. Call him paranoid, but David could swear there was some noise he couldn't quite pinpoint in the background, but it was probably a trick of the wind.

It wouldn't be considered paranoid to David at all to be looking over his shoulder for the noise. He suspected it might be the Black Knight or something Gabriel had planned. Either way, they were far out enough that David felt comfortable asking.
"Say, Gabriel. Why is it that people say you are the only one that the Black knight avoids?"

"They say that because I make these constant trips in and out of the village, yet remain alive. I'm pretty sure most of the people just chalk it up to more wizardry." Gabriel shrugs and keeps moving. The wasn't anything behind David, but the noise seemed to disappear for a couple seconds, then reappear very faintly, as if he wasn't paying enough attention.

David grimaced as he again found nothing when looked behind him. Once again he lit it to the back of his mind and focused on Gabriel.
"New question then. Why is it that they ignore you and yet supposedly kills everyone else?"

Gabriel shrugged again.
"I've never run into this supposed Black Knight, so for all I know, he doesn't even exist in the first place. The string of deaths could merely come down to a band of bandits that are very clever."

"That makes sense. This does seem like a time when superstition would run rampant among the masses."
He wasn't terribly surprised by this response. The downside was that it left only two possible results. Either the Black Knight was indeed fictitious, or Gabriel was directly linked with him. No reason to deny his existence otherwise.

David had finished his questions for now.

The three made it to the beach after some time. There was large expanses of white sand extending to the left and right as far as David could see. Large chunks of brown sandstone jutted out at various intervals, giving some more variation to the landscape. Ahead was a large body of water that was a deep green. It might be and ocean or sea, but you couldn't quite tell. Waves of emerald rise with crests of white foam glinting in the sun before crashing. The waters were a bit choppy, but nothing too unusual. Shana recognized the expanse as her former home and walked out to it, before stopping, looking back at David before sitting down and just staring out into the distance.

"Quite the eccentric one, isn't she?" Gabriel calmly strides across the sand to one of the great rocks, setting down the papers so that the stone blocks the wind and keeping the documents safe. "Do you want to start the tests now, or would you rather wait for awhile? I have plenty of other trials to run if you're still uncomfortable."

When Shana looked back at him David looked away from her regretfully. It was a mistake to come to the beach. Again, he had been so wrapped up in his own stuff he didn't think about her. Of course the beach would leave her with a feeling of longing for her home and likely be confusing. Even so, what was done was done and couldn't be helped. For now he should focus on these experiments that were to be done.

"Okay then." He replied "Just don't do anything which could harm the mechanism. After all, I doubt there is anyone capable of fixing it."

Although it had survived extended period of time in (presumably) salt water and was still perfectly functional so at the very least it was durable. Even so, he knew he had to be careful. losing this hand would be a humongous weakness. In the back of his mind he kept checking on Shana though, he needed to make sure that she didn't try to go swimming or something since with her new body she would be incapable of swimming or breathing in the water.

"I told you before that I wasn't going to do anything that would damage it. Alright, I want to test how powerful it is compared to a human's grip." Gabriel produces a small rock, roughly the size of a softball. He moves over to David and hands it to him. "Try squeezing it until you think you've gotten as hard as you'll get."

"No problem, it is just better to be safe than sorry."
He picked up the rock in his false hand and squeezed it with as much force as he was able.
