The God of Conquest

David obliged and took off after him. What could be so urgent though, that was the question. |

The group returned to the gate of Roan after about a half hour's walk, and the city, even from the outside felt more tense. There was a great deal of clamor behind the wooden walls. They were so busy in fact, that the city guards completely missed that there were people waiting at the gate. |

David called out to the guards to get there attention. This was beginning to become intriguing. |

One of the guards along the wall looks down from what he was doing and finally notices David and co. "Oi, Fred! The gits are back!" He calls. Which is immediately followed by the guard from earlier to reappear. He scratches his head and looks down. "Back, eh? Weird how the Black Knight didn' slaughter the lot o' ye. Well, it'd look bad for civilians to die on my watch... Get in." The gates open, revealing the inside of Roan, which was swarming with people moving about, all with a panicked expression. Some had personal possessions in their arms, others were free, but they were all leaning forwards in their gait. |

"Is it just me, or does it almost sound like they wanted us to die?" David asked Gabriel as they walked through the opening gates. |

"Well," Gabriel says as the gate closes behind them,"I'm pretty sure they'd be fine with my death, but were more neutral towards you guys. Of course since you've been associating with me, they'd be a bit more accepting of your deaths. Besides, nobody really knows you." It was weird. Walking so calmly through the anxious mass of people. It was like walking calmly against the flow of a raging river underwater. Soon they were inside of the tailor shop again, and Gustav was there just as before, like nothing had happened. "Your clothes are ready. I have made 3 durable outfits for the two of them. They're in the back, and I can get them to you as soon as I am paid." "Ah, I knew I was forgetting something," Gabriel says, snapping his fingers. "I know I have the money somewhere. The wizard(?) promptly begins searching all his pockets for the money he had. |

David was stood awkwardly waiting. He knew he had no local currency, in fact the didn't even know what was used as currency here now that he thought about it. Even so, the thoughts of payment were low on his priority list. Gabriel had said that the people of this town would be fine, perhaps even happy with his death. If his defining feature was to produce resources from seemingly nowhere why would the townspeople dislike him? Was it perhaps jealousy for his supposed immunity from the black knight? Every time David learned something new it seemed as though a new mystery was unveiled. |

After a few more minutes of searching, Gabriel produces a couple of purple disks(presumably coins of some sort) and hands them to Gustav. The tailor eyes them warily before taking them and disappearing into the backroom. Moments later, he reappears with armfuls of different clothes that were hard to make out what exactly they were specifically. Gustav then flips over the counter and presents the clothes to Shana and David while performing a deep bow. Shana looks at David a bit bewildered by the man's actions, but cautiously takes hold of the bundles. Gustav would not move until all the outfits have been accepted. |

David decided to take both sets of clothes and thanked Gustav as he did so. Shana wa unlikely to realize that she had the right to take them after all. Time and time again, basic social conditioning simply wouldn't be present. He only took solice in the fact that at least in theory it would become easier and easier as time preogressed. |

Gustav walks behind the counter and almost begins to work when he is interrupted by Gabriel. "I've been wondering Gustav, why is the town in such a rush?" The tailor stops what he was doing and motions for the three of them to get closer. |

David moved in. Good question, he hadn't thought to ask the tailor himself. |

"Well," he says in a hushed voice, as if saying something in a louder voice would incur the wrath of higher beings. "A messenger just arrived 10 minutes ago. And he brought... news." "News?" Gabriel inquires. All messengers carry news with them. That was kind of their purpose. "Yes, news. It appears that the Triple Triad are moving in on the village. Apparently they're only a few hours away from the town." "Only a few hours? Damn. If only the city guard actually put in the effort to reinforce the walls. This is exactly what I don't need..." Gabriel turns away and bites his knuckle, deep in thought. |

David nudged Gabriel and asked him in an equally hushed voice. "Sorry, who are the triple triad? Are they some kind of invading army?" |

"Not exactly, but they might as well be. The Triple Triad is an crime organization, almost like a company. The name, aside from being simply redundant is actually a show of their strength. The Triad has a strong presence in three neighboring countries, including this one. The Triad moving into your city is akin to being conquered by a foreign nation. This being a relatively small outpost, I thought we'd be safe, or at least ignored by the group. But I obviously miscalculated." |

David considered this. World politics were getting to problematic here. "Criminal organisation spanning multiple nations. Well, There certainly isn't much I can do about that. Maybe we will get lucky and the black knight will get in their way." |
