"Yeah, but I doubt even something like the 'Black Knight' would be able to truly stop their advance. Nobody really has time to leave, so we'll have to either fight or surrender, and that last one's not a very pretty alternative." Gabriel straightens up his stance and beckons David and Shana to follow. "In any case, we'll need to be going. In any such case I believe that even the city guard will be able to lend us weapons... not like you or Shana are lacking in that department." He finishes, eying the sword on the girl's hip. Why did Shana have a katana anyways? Didn't she use a spear back in the underwater city? In any case, the rush from earlier had been replaced with a dead still. The entirety of Roan had become a taut wire, waiting to be cut apart by the blade of the Triple Triad. Gabriel drops off the youths at his house, stating that he'd be back with supplies from the militia. What do? |

The question of why shana had been dealt out a sword by the mysterious universe had occurred to David and he did lack an explanation. Using a spear underwater was logical and the basic skill is theoretically transferable. Giving her a katana which she would be unskilled with seemed to make no sense. Even so, He had decided that since his physical abilities were higher and he already had another weapon in the form of the cyborg hand it was best to let her keep it. If the defense was willing to allow David to get a sword like hers now though that would be great. There was only so much he could without a weapon after all. Now he was left alone with Shana in the house. The tension was high and he was unsure what to do. He paced back and forth talking very quickly out loud to himself. It helped him to process his thoughts. When he got nervous he even sometimes simulated conversations just for the purpose of this. "I guess now that there is a more immediate threat they might be a bit more generous. They wouldn't give me a sword earlier to help me fight off the black knight. This doesn't make sense though. If the triad is a criminal empire why would they be treated like an invading army. The strength of any criminal empire is in its subtlety. They are strong because nobody quite knows where it is or what its goals are. I can only think of two reasons for this, either the leaders are incompetent -unlikely given the fear present - or they are powerful enough that subtlety is no longer necessary. But how can any outlaw venture gain enough momentum to be able to work in the public spectrum. Damnit, I can't figure this out." he twisted on his feet and began walking the other way. "New question, why here. Is it simple expansion or is there something here that they want? Gabriel said they would be unlikely to bother with this place" Once more he shifted the other way. "Nothing has stood out about this place. The black knight seems to be the only reason this community stands out and that is unlikely to be their objective." "Perhaps Gabriel?" "He does have supposedly unlimited resources from nowhere. That knowledge of where his stash is would be useful. Unlikely to b known much further than this parish though. Especially with the quarantine from the black knight killings. Damnit, there is nothing I can do and nothing i know. I just don't have enough pieces to the puzzle." He flopped onto he nearest seat he could find dejectedly. |

Shana just kinda stood back and watch David furiously try to work everything out. It was really odd how these surface people would act. She knew that something was up from the way everyone was acting, but what exactly was happening would remain a mystery for now. As David sulked, she began pacing around the house, waiting for Gabriel to return. Which he did after about a 45 minutes' wait. But not how anyone would've expected. Gabriel was clad from head to toe in heavy iron armor, wielding a rather large one sided war axe. There was another thing in his other hand, but it couldn't really be seen. "David. Get up," he orders, his voice somewhat muffled by the helmet, but with a much more commanding tone than before. |

David rose up as commanded. He was ready for what was to come. Even so, he wasn't terribly keen for battle. Fighting was one thing, but he still hated the idea of killing someone. On the bright side, from what he had seen of the people in this world he was far beyond them in terms of ability due to the magical enhancements. He looked at Gabriel a little dubiously, he hadn't imagined that the man would don armour like that. After all he seemed to frail for heavy armour from his first impressions. This could be interesting. "Alright, what is happening then?" Edited by Mistriousfrog, May 10 2013, 12:11 AM.

"We're going to fight. I hate that I would have to resort to such tactics, but I'd rather this than be oppressed. Here." Gabriel raises his other hand and presented David with his first weapon. A 130cm long warhammer! There was even a pointy bit opposite of the head for breaking up soil! Or other things... "I tried to get you some armor too, but this is the best I could manage. Sorry lad." It seems that the Triad will get here in a couple hours or so. We need to be ready when they arrive." Shana saw the weapons and immediately understood what situation they were in. He face hardens and she nods knowingly to both the men, with a tight grasp on the hilt of the sword. |

David took the hammer and looked over it a little disappointed. Surely it would be better than nothing but it was still a little disheartening. "The universe really is intent on keeping me from getting a sword isn't it. Still, better than nothing." He had no idea how to use a small warhammer effectively so was most likely going to have to rely on speed and guerilla tactics here, in an engagement of skill he would be undoubtedly overwhelmed by anyone with this weapon. With any luck he would be able to find a sword on the battlefield somewhere to replace this. On the bright side, Shana seemed to catch on quickly. That at least made things easier. "I'm fine without armour. It would only slow me down anyway, I need maximum movement." |

"Alright then. I'm assuming you know nothing about using the warhammer, correct?" Gabriel steps out side, followed by Shana. |

"Correct. I am a swordsman without a sword as it were." He shrugged and then took a few practice swings of the hammer to get used to its weight. "Not a problem though, I have fought most of my recent battles without any weapon so anything is an improvement right." |

"A swordsman? I thought you said that right hand of yours was the reason you could pass yourself off as a warrior earlier. Nevertheless I can teach you some basics of using a warhammer. Ever used a pickaxe?" Gabriel was marching away from the gates oddly enough. He was probably going towards the practice grounds in the Military District. |

"left hand." david corrected reflexively. He followed him "And I will be fine. Hit them before they hit me right. I just won't be able to use it defensively well, that should be fine." He knew he had his trump card with the lazers anyway if he got in trouble, odds were he could take a lot of people out quickly with that. |

"Silly me. But it really would be better for you to at least know how to swing the thing properly. Am I wrong?" |

Gabriel then spent the next hour or so teaching David the basics of swinging around a warhammer. It basically boiled down to:
Of course, David found the hammer to actually be rather light. He could easily swing it around with one hand. But that might need to be kept classified though. However, the scheduled time for the "invasion" was nearing. Gabriel lifts the face shield and asks David one last question. "Are you sure you want to go through with this, lad?" |

"I'm not going to lie to you. I don't like this at all. I don't kill people, I never have and I don't much like that I've been put in a position where I have to start now but I can't run out on you either." He held the hammer tightly and stared at it. This was going to be a bad day. |

"It's not a pretty business, killing people. But there comes a time when you have to decide what to give up. Let's go." The three of them approach the city gates, and surprisingly, they're open. Just outside are 50 or so guardsmen, armed and ready to fight. They were about to give Gabriel flak, but then it was thought better of them. "You can still leave if you want, David. I won't think any less of you. But once the Triad shows up, there won't be any time for hesitation." |
