As David approached the gates, he could spot a strange light coming from the opposite side of the wall. It looked like fire. |

What could that be? picking up the pace he looked for a way to the top of the wall so he could see past the gate. Worst case scenario he would try and jump his way up, no point hiding the super human abilities now after all, the secret was out. |

Well it was actually possible to see through the gate, so there'd be no need for that. It was definitely a fire outside of the village, the smell was unmistakable. There were men working all around it, pushing bodies into the heap. Oddly enough the air didn't smell of burning bodies, it was... something else that scented the smoke. |

Realization dawned on David. This was a post battle funerary practice. Necessary for preventing the spread of disease from all the corpses. David found himself hesitating to go out there now. The scent left a sense of unease deep in his chest. |

Which is weird considering when he thought about it, the smell was actually a lot of incense. Turns out they were burning large amounts of it to keep the smell of burning flesh covered up. There were still some guardsmen inside the city walls. Come back later or keep going? |

As uncomfortable as it had made him feel, David felt it would be pointless to let it keep him. He decided to approach the guards. "Good morning..." Already he trailed off awkwardly and blinked. After a morning spent doing what they were it was unlikely they were seeing it as good. |

"What do ya-" begins one of the guards before silencing abruptly after seeing David's face. "Erm," he says far more cautiously, like one might speak to the head of their national government,"What can I do fer ya?" |

The black knight could wait, e was unlikely to show up so soon after the battle anyway, and that is if whoever it was hadn't decided to run off to a parish that was a little less dangerous. Either way, there was more current issue. "Well, I was just wondering if you needed any help here." |

"i see, I'm sorry, I should have been helping out. After all, you all went through the same battle I did." The words were chosen for respect but David clearly sense the fear. It was... different. A foreign experience for him. He had seen this reaction with the polite talk around once before in his early grade school and it left him feeling just as uncomfortable to be considered intimidating then as it did now. |

"It's no trouble, we're actually paid for this." The guard waves David away while keeping a smile on. The type of smile that somebody put on when they knew the person they were talking to could erase them in a second with a wrong word. |

"Fair enough. Excuse me then." He began heading back to the centre of town but wasn't entirely sure where to go from there. His plan for the day had been all but dashed so he needed to think of another way to spend the day. |

David found himself in the Commercial District again. Stores and businesses of all kinds surrounded David. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to look through their wares? |

Without money it seemed a pointless endeavour but given that he was made of tie anyway, it certainly couldn't hurt. He decided to explore some of the markets. |

Most of what Dacid found in these stores was fell into one of a few categories: food, tools, or junk that served no purpose. From the looks of it. the third category was selling the best. But one thing to note was that anything David found looked, smelled and felt foreign. This little stroll not only took up time, but was also a rather enjoyable trip through some Griswoldian culture. After a few hours of wandering, David again ran into the shifty looking building. |
