People were now moving about in the government building, and the secretary from yesterday actually looked prepared, and her desk had been cleaned a bit. Now the papers had some semblance of organization. |

David decided to be upfront and head to the reception desk. "Hi there, is there any way that I can find out some intel on the results of that battle yesterday. I need to know if I should be prepared for them to come back or not." |

"Well you could, but you would have to wait until tomorrow at the very soonest. These things require time to completely sort out. Currently, we aren't sure of the exact figures ourselves." |

Not entirely unexpected. It had been less than 24 hours since the battle, intel wouldn't be flowing yet. "Well thank you anyway, I guess I will ask again tomorrow. While I am here, are there any projects that need assistance for now? I'm kind of without occupation or a goal at the moment." |

"Well, the... skills you showed off yesterday would make you a perfect candidate for one of the Roan's elite guard. But if that doesn't sound like a good choice, I'm pretty sure we'd be able to find a myriad of jobs that would work out for somebody like you." |

David thought about it. The elite guard was out of the question, it sounded like a career path and given that he was liable to vanish from this world at any time it was best not to do something such as that. "I don't know how long I'll be in Roan, so if there is anything more short term that I can do to aid this town while I am here then that would be preferable." |

"Well, you could work as a message carrier. If you like," she added hastily at the end. |

"I'm not entirely sure that would be best. I'm not sure if you have heard but I'm not from Griswold. I don't know the landscape. Heck I don't even know what the capital is." Anything that involved travel was out of the question. If he was placed here in order to eliminate something other than the army then it was best he not go to far from Roan. |

"I think you're misunderstanding. I mean delivering letters around the village. We have roughly 400 people here, who don't necessarily have the time to give letters to each other. Of course, you'd also be delivering letters from outside to the people of Roan." |

"Well that sounds perfect then. It should help me get to know people and maybe remove the stigma that the battle seems to have developed around me." He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. Don't talk too much, you are coming off as weird. |

"Uh huh." The secretary says pulling out several files, jotting down notes and filling out what appears to be official forms. "Tomorrow you'll need to show up here at dawn. Wear something light. Your boss will fill you in on everything else that you'll need to know about the job itself. You're expected to come around the back. You will work 6 hours shifts and receive 20 farthings a week. If you agree with all of the above, I'll need you to sign this contract." The secretary pulls out a sheet out of the rest with a lot of writing on it and a line at the bottom. |

David had a thing for legal stuff and nervousness tugged at him whenever a contract was put forth for him to sign. He made sure to read the contract carefully to make sure that it was simply a job and that if necessary he would be capable of leaving. Regretting he signed something later was certainly not something he was keen to do. |

Well, the writing was definitely not English, so David couldn't scan it, but when you really thought about it, why would a place like Roan need anything tricky in legal documents? If anything, it was probably for posterity. The secretary takes the contract and shoves it into a folder. "Anything else I can help you with?" |

"No, that should be alright for now. Thank you." David didn't feel good about signing a contract written in a language he couldn't read but it couldn't be helped. Well it could, but doing nothing was hardly going to benefit him in the long run. Who knows, perhaps getting to know the town a bit better like this could be good... That reminded him. "Oh, actually there was one thing. Over in the commercial district there was this shady store near the end of the street which seemed to be members only and dealt in vaguely established 'business'. Do you have any idea what it is?" |

"Yes." The secretary continued filling out paper work. |
