In the center of town, David found a statue of some guy he didn't know standing over the rest of the town, looking down in a gaze eternally cast into stone. Seemed as good a place as any to think.

For a moment he looked for an inscription before recalling that even if there was one he wouldn't be able to read it. This world just left him uncomfortable. He was left in the uncanny valley with everything he did. Not so foreign that there was a culture-shock but not close enough to be relateable. He could speak their language but couldn't read. He could outmatch them physically but it only isolated him further. Just what was the point of coming here anyway? Was it the knight? Surely whatever universal force governs these things would have made sure he ran into it that first day outside the village walls but instead it sent an army his way. Even more confusing was that there seemed to be two issues at hand. One of which simply 'couldn't just be solved'. Did the strange hand of the universe expect him to stay here long term, encourage economic reform and remove whatever shadowy business went on like that? It wasn't that it was that farfetched merely that it seemed impractical.

He sighed and looked for somewhere to sit. The more he thought about it the more confusing everything became and the more frustrated he got that he simply didn't have any answers.

David hears what appears to be Morgan Freeman's laugh in the distance, but it was probably his imagination. There was an empty wooden bench underneath a tree nearby where David could sit. It was a rather hot day, but at least it wasn't humid too so the seat would at least help keep him cool.

It was probably his imagination from focusing on it too long. Didn't help the foul mood that hearing the ethereal laugh gave him though. With a sigh of frustration he sat down on the bench and just hung his head for a little while.

As David sat, it felt like he was being watched. Might just be the wind...

He looked up. It felt like before when he was out with Gabriel. A mysterious presence seemed to loom over him and it was never there when he looked for it. Maybe this time he would get lucky and find it.

Well, there was nobody directly in front of David or to his sides, but that watched feeling remained.

He checked over his shoulder too. The feeling of being watched was most common when there was someone behind you.

Well, aside from people milling around supposedly minding their own business, David saw nothing worth noting. There was that one person from before, clad completely in black from before, but they were buying a roll of bread.

Given his luck lately it was probably the Morgan Freeman sound-alike trying to make him uncomfortable. Worst bit was that it was working... Tempted though he was to interrupt the most suspicious person he could see it would be a baseless accusation over something which was reasonable anyway. He had after all; become infamous in the town.
In a voice that was audible but wouldn't be likely to draw much attention he simply spoke to himself.
"Could whoever that is please stop staring."

A few people give Frog weird glances as they pass, but that did seem to do the trick, because slowly, the watched feeling fades.

David looked at the frog too. It amused him

The frog croaked, and if David understood frog, he'd realize that it was actually an avatar of the mysterious force that had sent him here berating the cyborg for being so nitpicky. And a frog being in a village near a large body of salt water really was odd when you thought about it. People pointed out the amphibian muttering something about a bad omen.

It was a good thing David didn't speak frog or he may have been offended. The mutterings of a bad omen did make him feel a little uneasy. He had never been a terribly superstitious person but this was a different world with different rules. Perhaps an omen is more trustworthy here.

Either way, for now it looked as though he had done all he could short of busting open the door to the mysterious building and that seemed less than intelligent. He decided to go back to the house and see how Shana had gotten on with her morning alone.

When David arrived home he found Gabriel and Shana hunched over several hefty tomes. It wasn't quite clear what they were doing, but they seemed rather absorbed in it, Gabriel muttering in reaction to Shana's points and gestures.
