It seemed like the goal of the game was to get rid of all your cards, and worked by putting certain cards into certain piles in a certain order, but the specifics of which cards went where were fuzzy at best.

David was looking for patterns between what cards were placed on what. It seemed to vaguely resemble solitair or freecell so it likely had at least a similar concept. The secret was most likely numeric, card games tended to be after all.
"So if I can ask, just because it has been bugging me all day that everyone seems terrified to say, what is the shady, ominous building near the back of the market sector for? So far all I have is that 'business' is conducted and that its existence slowly erodes the town's integrity."

"Oh that? I don't know much about it, but I think it's a cross between a cult and an assassin group." Shana was already 2/3 of the way through her cards.

"Thank you!"
It was relief that finally someone had just spit it out more than happiness at what it was.
"Alright, well it sounds foreboding enough to keep my distance unless I have to. Most people in the town seem oddly comfortable with it being there after all."

"They either don't know, or would rather not know. Honestly, I don't care much for Roan, so the presence of a corrupting influence that will kill the village long after I'm dead is not much concern to me." Shana finished placing all her cards and pumped her fist in victory. She looks at Gabriel, who refers to his watch. "That was about 2 and a half minutes, Shana. Very impressive."

"So I assumed a man like you has bigger dreams than a sleepy town like this then?"

"I'm too old for dreams now. Any dreams I had are either finished or dead now." Gabriel gets up and walks over to the "kitchen," grabbing a kettle before going to the door. "Do you want some tea, David?"

Gabriel exits the building, leaving David alone with Shana, who was trying to shuffle the cards with much trouble.

"Here let me."
He held out his hand to take the cards. Since he was into card games he was pretty good at shuffling and could do a full vegas shuffle. It was so rare that one got an opportunity to use such a skillset, may as well do it now. He still hadn't figured out the rules but he could certainly deal out he cards as he saw they were before.

Shana takes the cards and nods to David, which would be the closest she could get to communicating,"thank you," and began playing again, trying to beat her previous time.

Once more he studied the moves that she made and the patterns, that were created while he waited for Gabriel and the tea. He thought he had figured it out when Shana made a move that wouldn't be possible by the rules he had constructed.
Not that then. This would be much easier if hey used the same playing card set we did

After a few minutes and several rounds of Jung, Gabriel returns with a tea kettle full of water. He preps the kettle and sets it on the stove and takes a seat by the table, leaning back for comfort. He scratches his head and waits for the tea to boil.

Even making a pot of tea, a common factor between their world seemed to remind David that he was displaced. No matter how many times he tried to come to terms with it, he couldn't get past the uncanny valley this place left him in.

-One month later-

David was standing in the middle of the Residential District, waiting to give a letter to his target, a Mr.Swarenson. Turns out that instead of having to hunt down exactly where the recipient is, in Griswold the messenger(when it's a local type thing) goes to a spot where the customer passes by quite frequently and gives it to them there. It was kind of like being a human mailbox. Not a terribly efficient system, but it promotes familiarity with the community. Or so the aristocracy says. The person clad in all black walks past David, giving him a passing glance, or what could be assumed to be such as they passed.
