Receptionist lady whose name I forgot didn't even seem to notice David was late. She, along with the rest of the town was abuzz with gossip about the burnt down shack and the 19 missing people. David barely even had any mail to deliver. It was just a single letter that funnily enough went to the mayor, who seemed to be sick today. |

David moved in close to try and learn what the specifics of the rumours entailed. See what people suspected was responsible and who was being implicated in it. |

The rumors consisted of them speculating that the crazy people in that shack tried some crazy pagan ritual that lit the whole building on fire and caused all that damage to Old Man Jenkins' store. |

Probably best that the rumours stayed like that. Enlightening people on the truth wasn't really necessary. It still surprised him that nobody had seen the actual event. Then again, it happened at midnight in the commercial district. Perhaps it wasn't too improbable. David collected the letter and went over to the mayor's residence so he could drop it off. |

The mayor's house was the largest in the entire residential district. It was even painted white. |

Just typical. He had never been in a position of wealth, but he had always figured that given wealth he still wouldn't bother flaunting affluence with big houses or whatever. Then again, maybe it was good for that to be there, morale or something. Then again, maybe he was reading way to much into everything. He searched for the entrance so that he could drop off the letter. |

The front door, well front doors were large and easy to spot. It was common knowledge that the mayor had actually hired a maid to keep house and receive letters and stuff while he was at work. So if David could find her, his job would be done and get on with his day. |

When David knocked, nobody came. And the house felt very isolated. Maybe nobody heard him knock? |

He decided to call out to them. If no response this time he would just slide the letter under the door. |

No response. And when his hand touched the door to slide it in, it opens a bit slowly, unlocked. |

Strange that it would be unlocked. Then again, 20 men disappeared last night, it isn't impossible that the mayor was one of them. It certainly couldn't hurt to make sure he was okay. David stepped inside and looked around. |

David stepped inside the house finding himself inside the main room. In front of him was a door, as well as two more, one to each side. |

"Well, at least there isn't a second floor." He decided on a whim to check he door right in front of him. |

It lead to a hallway with a couple doors to the left and one to the right. Adorning the walls were various portraits of the mayor in a myriad of mediums and poses. |
