"That won' be necessary." The guardsman thinks for a few minutes, leaving the two to awkward silence. At least they got to appreciate the weather, and the mermaid was definitely appreciating it. This was way beyond the sameness that the ocean often felt like, although she did miss its caress. The breeze did remind her of the currents though, so there was familiarity hidden in the new. "O'wright you can come in, but if ye make a ruckus, you're gettin kicked out, understan'?" Two men from behind the gates pull a couple of ropes fastened to the doors and with a mighty heave, pry open the gates, creating a small cloud of dust that obscured David's vision. |

glad I passed my bluff check he htought to himself. "Sounds fair. Thank you for this my frie... *cough*" as the dust swept over david he ended up hacking and coughing mid sentence. "Well that was a little unpleasant." He said clearing his throat. He waved his hand in front of his face to clear away some of the dust and began leading the mermaid into the Roan. |

The Mermaid, did not gel with the dust. It was like sand, "Also, git some better clothes, your current get up is real queer." Modern day clothing definitely would make the two stand out more than they already did. |

"yueagh" david choked out in agreement. The guy was probably right, standing out wasn't the preferable result here. He looked round the town for anything that could be construed as a tailor or clothes store. Then he realized he had no money and nothing of worth other than perhaps his companions sword and giving that up so soon seemed like a bad idea. |

Right as David and the mermaid(henceforth dubbed Shana) were inside the walls, the gate was shut. Any impressions the crude wall gave off were misleading. The actual village of Roan was quite nice. Most of the buildings were well made from quality wood, the roads were paved with gravel and lining those was dark green grass, much like the plains from the outside. People strolled about their own business, deals were made, conversation was ongoing and the general air was pleasant, but there was an undercurrent of tension saturating the village. It did seem like that wall was necessary, even if only for the benefit of the people's minds. Before the duo were three paths, one curving to the left, one to the right, and a third heading straight to the center. |

A crossroads. Generally in these situations David decided on the road less traveled but in the middle of a town like this it seemed completely arbitrary which he would choose. He decided to take the right path simply out of habit. |

To the right was the residential area of the village, houses were placed uniformly, but compared to the boxiness of large cities, it was quite sprawled out. The houses were smaller than the buildings he'd seen before, but they remained well put together. Shana was quite perplexed by Roan, it was so much like her home, but it was so... flat. Compared to the rock spires that rose high into the ocean, the sudden lack of a 3rd dimension of movement came down on her. It was restricting to say the least. Then David smacks into a random passerby, sending papers flying everywhere. The pedestrian, a man in his fifties clad in a black robe swears under his breath and begins scrounging for the dropped documents before the wind takes them all. |

David tries to catch as many of the pages as he can but is fairly unsuccessful. He apologised to the man bowing his head. "I am so sorry, I should have been looking where I was going." |

The papers had a lot of weird symbols on it that seemed at the very least, not anywhere close to any system of writing devised for the Germanic language of families. As the man takes the papers from David, he brushes his hand against David's cyborg appendage. He freezes up and stares at the two. Shana was busy gathering the rest of the papers, doing so much better than either of the men had, but she had a peculiar quality about her. The man looks at both of them and slowly takes the last of the sheets while keeping his eyes glued on them. "Excuse me, I believe you two must be... new to Roan. Might I ask your names?" |

"Uh.. yeah sure." David hesitated for a second. Usually he was pretty trusting of strangers but this had been a strange day. He decided that there was no harm in giving a name though. "My name is David and this is..." He paused again because once again he didn't actually know if the girl had a name let alone what it was. He decided that since she didn't speak english it was best to just maintain the name he had given her for now. "Uh... and this is Shana." Edited by Mistriousfrog, Apr 18 2013, 02:17 AM.

"Hmm, David and Sharna. I am the 'wizard,'" he makes air quotes when saying wizard,"of Roan, Gabriel. Well you two look like the traveling type, and I take it you have no place to stay currently, hm? I was going to conduct an experiment, but due to this run in I'll have to rearrange all my notes anyways. Besides, you two seem quite the interesting duo, hm. You two should have a meal at my house, hm yes?" Well, take his offer? His get up and the papers did appear to back up what he said, and it was just for a meal. |

"You are quite perceptive." David complimented the wizard nodding at his assertions. Already David both repected and was weary of this man. He respected anyone with intelligence and for this man to figure out things like he has purely on a first impression says that he was smart. Unfortunately; in David's experience anyone too smart tended to have an agenda so a healthy paranoia was called for. Regardless, this at the very least had the appearance of being a fortunate encounter given David and his Shana's current circumstance. He chose to accept the offer politely. "I am thankful for the offer. It has been a while since I had a good meal and somewhere to rest would be very welcome." |

"That's good to hear. Come with me. Gabriel, clutching the papers to his chest, leads them through the maze of houses, moving at a slow enough pace so that Sharna could keep up. Eventually, they reach a small house that looked pretty nondescript. Gabriel walks over to the left of the door. "Could you open the door? My hands are a bit full." |

"Certainly." David says and twists the handly opening the door. He steps back afterwards to let Gabriel though first. It was only polite after all. It was also a bit of the paranoia sinking in. David wasn't keen of the idea of the door suddenly slamming shut and trapping Shana or himself inside. Especially with the vague reference ot experiments. He knew he was being overly cautious but so long as he maintained composure and didn't act on his lingering suspicions, he figured there was no problem with being a little bit careful. |

"Thank you, my good sir." Gabriel enters the house, followed shortly by Shana and presumably David. The house itself was not very large at all. There were a couple of closed doors presumably leading to closets or bedrooms, but other than that it was a single room. To David's left was a stove for cooking, along with a table and some chairs, to the right were several desks with lots of paper and pens strewn over it. There was the host, placing his load. "Come in, have a seat at the table, hm." Shana kinda stood there awkwardly, waiting for a cue from David. |
