Kairyoshi Headquarters - Combat Area Ashura After being discovered, the ninja revealed himself in full, flipping down from the rafter above and explaining that Ashura shouldn't threaten him, but he sounded quite hesitant while speaking. The pale woman shrugged and grinned, shaking her head as if ignoring him completely. He was one of the people around here she had the most fun playing around with and just because he asked her to stop for the umpteenth time didn't mean she was going to. Regardless of their confrontation, he presented them with a task and told them to take the newbie with them. Katsuo snatched it out of the air as Ashura placed a hand on her hip, watching Yuki disappear from view. Katsuo explained that the new blood was fortunate to be given something to do so fast and started out of the area, likely heading for the gates. Licking her lips, Ashura started off after the pair, walking at her own pace. |

Hayate jogged to keep up with the other two as they exited the gates. He talked excitedly, looking back and forth between the others. "A shikigami!? I've never seen such magic before! What kind of Youkai are we to fight? Where are we going?" As Katsuo put the origami frog down and pressed on its backside with a finger, causing it to hop with a spring-like action, the paper creature let out a very real sounding ribbit. Then it continued to hop, on its own now, at a pace that the three would need to move swiftly to keep up with. As it did so, it began to speak in a croaky voice. "I am Kero-chan, servant of Yamaguchi-sama! For Katsuo, kero, Ashura, kero, Akibayashi, kero, I have a message!" "Amazing!" Hayate's eyes were practically sparkling. "What is the message, shikigami-dono!?" "The message begins, kero: We have received reports of oni on the outskirts of the city, stop kero. One has been killed, another has fled, stop kero. One remains alive, and it is your job to kill it, stop kero. Speak to the city guards when you reach the scene; the message ends, kero." Hayate took a sharp breath, and looked at Ashura and Katsuo. He suddenly seemed nervous. "Have...have Ashura-dono and Katsuo-dono ever fought an Oni before?" |

Kairyoshi Headquarters - Combat Area Ashura Ashura was barely able to believe that Hayate could keep his innards from bursting forth from his body and painting the landscape. She hadn't seen so much energy pouring out of someone in years and while it was certainly a welcome change, she saw herself growing tired of it with time. Katsuo placed the paper figure on the ground and activated it as instructed. The creature animated and began to speak, explaining that they were to destroy a Youkai that remained on the outskirts of the city. There had originally been three; one slain, one fled and one remained. The fleeing Youkai could've very well about-faced and returned, so Ashura made a mental note to remain attentive. Instead of his usual bustling demeanor, Hayate had simmered down quite a bit and now seemed almost reluctant. He asked if Ashura and Katsuo had ever fought an Oni before. The question caused Ashura to break out into hysterical laughter; her arms gripping her sides to stifle the laughing pains. "Goodness, yes. How do you think we remain employed with the organization?" she questioned. "Blood belonging to hundreds of Youkai have stained my blade; this one will fall just the same," the woman exclaimed as she gathered herself and licked her lips. |

Katsuo jogged after the shikigami paper frog after he activated it, following along behind it as it led them to their destination. It began to tell them of their mission as they ran, explaining in a croaky voice that they job was to kill an Oni hanging around the outskirts of the city. He also caught the origami creation state another Oni could possibly be in the area, and made a note to be on the lookout for it. As with just about everything else he'd seen today, Hayate reacted with bursting enthusiasm to the sight of a frog made out of paper. But after the mission had been outlined, he grew hesitant. It was quickly revealed why though, when the boy anxiously asked Katsuo and Ashura if they had ever fought an Oni before. Ashura found the question humorous, and burst out into peals of laughter before explaining she had faced hundreds of Yokai. Katsuo nodded his head in answer, before saying, "I've seen my fair share of Oni, even before I joined the Kairyoshi. They're strong. But practically brainless. Just don't let them corner you, and you'll be fine." he said informatively. One good thing about working for the Kairyoshi, hardly anyone questioned his knowledge of Yokai. As long as he didn't go too in-depth, at least. After a few minutes of running, he looked over at Ashura. "What do you think, should we take the lead on this one and show the kid the ropes? Or should we hang back a little and let him handle some the heavy lifting on his own?" he asked. |

Kairyoshi Headquarters - Combat Area Ashura Once they began to close in on the locale they were being led to, Katsuo spoke up with an important question: he wondered if they should take the lead or to simply let Hayate do what he can and step in if necessary. "My, it just would not be fair to the beast if we were to participate. Let us allow Hayate time to learn," she replied, running her hands through her hair and tightening her ponytail. "The poor boy has no idea how to fight a Youkai; trial-by-fire is the fastest and most efficient way to learn." With that being said, the city walls came into view ahead and in turn, the outskirts. The beast would likely dwell somewhere nearby... |

The sounds of screams and gunshots echoed over the walls. Something large swung through the air, and then the screams were silenced with horrifying swiftness. As the trio ran out of the gates, what greeted them was a sight out of nightmare. Bodies splattered haphazardly across the road, torn into pieces by a jagged blade, trailing entrails and lying in pools of blood. One of the bodies was larger than the others, and filled with so many bullet holes it was hard to tell what it had looked like before. The dirt of the road had turned to crimson mud. A lone rifleman almost backed into them, trying desperately to reload his weapon. And coming at them from the front, a blue giant with a stout, thickset body, cloven hooves, and the head of a bull. In one clawed hand it gripped a roughly made sword, more like a cleaver, with a worn and stained edge that had no doubt seen a lot of use. A few bullet holes could be seen in its massive body, but with skin so tough and a body so huge, the shots had done little to slow it down. The rifleman finally broke, shoving past the three with a scream as he ran for the gate. Hayate, eyes wide, entire body trembling, put a hand on his sword. This was it. This was a youkai, and he was set to slay it in battle. He would have to fight this thing. It was kill or be killed. If he did not kill it, he would die. He could die. The shivering was uncontrollable. He gripped his sword hilt, but for some reason it wouldn't come out of the sheath. The Oni roared and charged, raising its sword. Hayate couldn't find the air to scream. The blade came down... |

"Heh. I like the way you think, Ashura." Katsuo commented as the woman replied to his question. Her logic was sound enough in principle. The best way to learn how to fight Yokai was simply to do it. Experience was the best teacher in life, as he had learned while understanding the ins and outs of passing for human. In short order they had arrived in their destination, and Katsuo could quickly see why the three of them had been dispatched. The Oni had done quite a bit of damage. The dead littered the ground almost everywhere that his eyes could see, mangled and torn apart savagely. To their credit though, the humans had truly managed to fell one of the Oni on their own, though he hadn't appeared to go quietly. "Oni are always such bothersome creatures. No subtly at all." he commented to himself. Several types of Yokai preferred to use subterfuge and cunning to get what they wanted, such as Kitsune. But Oni were all muscle and no brains. It didn't take them long to find the surviving Oni, approaching to the terror of a lone gunman who quickly beat a hasty retreat. He looked to Hayate as the Oni approached, but quickly realized what was about to happen. The boy had frozen up in fear, aside from his terrified shivering. He had his hand on his sword, but was too scared to draw it. The Oni was already charging them, raising it's massive sword to carve Hayate in two. There was no doubt about it, a direct hit from that blade would spell doom for the boy. Katsuo's first thought was to halt the attack, as he likely had the strength to do so, but a show of force like that might give him away. It was too risky. He could have just let the Kid die, he supposed. If he and Ashura were to both somehow be killed by the Oni, he wouldn't have to worry about hiding his nature, but by the time that thought had crossed his mind, he was already on the move. Thankfully, above average speed could just be attested to skill. "Move, Kid!" Katsuo exclaimed as he roughly shoved Hayate out of the way of the Oni's attack. The blade slammed into the ground where he had been standing, and the amount of force behind it shook the ground slightly. No doubt the dirt would have been stained his blood for some time. "First lesson! Don't freeze up in a fight, Hayate!" Katsuo shouted heatedly at the boy. "Second lesson! Draw your sword and stab the Yokai with the pointy end before it smashes you to bits! Go!" |

Kaze yawned lightly, covering his mouth with the back of his hand. He had been taking a little jaunt through the town to stretch his legs that particular morning. It beat jogging in a dojo or just swinging the club he had about, to much work not enough relaxation. Speaking of his club it was resting over his shoulder, a simple cord of leather held it up to the couple of fingers to is didn't just drop. Unfortunately his relaxing morning was taken from him by the sound of gunshots and screams. His eyes narrowed before he quickened his pace to follow the sounds. His geta clacked loudly on the street, almost getting drowned out by the few screaming civilians running from whatever was causing the commotion. He slowed his jog and crept into an opening between two buildings to see what had happened. Bodies littered the street, turning the dirt road to a muck of blood. The corpse of people, and surprisingly an oni, laid out as the shinigami took them. Three new people came onto the scene as the final gunman and the second oni were moving. The gunman away as he frantically tried to reload, and the oni towards the gunman to finish whatever was started. The lone human screamed and ran through the three newcomers, two males and a woman. With the target gone the oni turned its attention to the three and proceeded to attack. The youngest seemed to be frozen, either from fright or for the right moment to strike. No point letting a kid die from assuming the later. Luckily enough for the kid the second male stepped in and saved him. Stepping out from between the buildings the rather giant man jerked his wrist, snapping his kanabo into the awaiting grip of his hand. A hard, over the shoulder, swing into the grounded weapon. Metal met metal, practically ruining the crude sword. "You're giving him a lesson around an oni?" Kaze questioned, his voice sounding bored with an undertone of disdain. |

City Outskirts Ashura Once they discovered the Oni they were sent to do away with, the extent of it's destruction and that of it's allies could be seen. Many bodies littered the area, most likely those of foolish humans ill-informed enough to oppose a beast such as this. The thought almost brought Ashura to laughter, but only a grin escaped. "This place appears so inviting," she exclaimed as the creature rushed toward them. As was to be expected from one's first time engaging a Youkai, Hayate froze up; unable to move or draw his weapon. While she had little intention of putting herself into harms way to protect this new blood, Katsuo was considerably more self-sacrificing. He thrust the boy out of the way in order to protect him. Ashura avoided being pelted by lifted earth and rock by stepping to the side and back, crossing her arms as the attack missed. They were joined by another, much larger man who slammed his own weapon down atop the Oni's sword to hold it in place, commenting on their plan to let Hayate learn through experience. "What is another body to the pile?" Ashura questioned as she looked to the man. "The fastest way to learn is by doing, after all," she added with a shrug and a shaing of her head. As the more experienced warriors bantered back and forth, Hayate snapped. He finally jerked his sword free of its sheath, with none of the grace of a samurai, and charged at the demon with a battlecry that was more cry than battle. He swung horizontally at one of its arms as he passed by it, drawing a ragged line through the flesh. It was certainly no dismemberment, but the Oni felt it and roared in rage. Swinging its other fist at Kaze, it yanked its own weapon out of the ground and turned towards the little human that had just cut it. Hayate stood in a traditional swordsman's stance now, completely useless against something so much bigger. His breathing was as ragged as if he'd been running for miles on a mountain top, and sweat dripped down his chin. His eyes were so wide and his pupils so small it seemed like he'd overdosed on some kind of drug. The oni snorted, and turned back to the other three. "You send a child to fight me!?" it roared in a voice like a rockslide. |

Katsuo's words seemed to spur Hayate to action, though it wasn't very effective. He managed to injure the Oni's arm with a slice of his sword. It would take much more than that to bring down a bruiser like this though, and if anything only seemed to enrage the Yokai, who pulled it's weapon out of the ground, shaking off some newcomer who had joined in the fight. "Where else should he learn this?" he replied testily to the large man with the club, as did Ashura, basically giving the same answer as himself. Hayate seemed more focused now, as Katsuo turned back to the fight. He at least was holding his sword in the proper way now, though traditional tactics would do him little good here. "That was the one and only time I'm gonna save your skin, Kid! It's sink or swim now!" Katsuo called over to him as the Oni turned around to angrily roar at them. "Heh. Sorry, you're not exactly worth the effort for us. But you'll make a good test for our Newbie here." he said with a shrug of his shoulders. |

Kaze had never taken his eyes off the oni, the scars upon his face had given him enough wariness when he was around the bestial creatures. The monsters fist lashed out at him, but he stepped back, dragging his weapon with him. He hadn't been aiming to pin the blade, merely turn it into so much scrap iron. The two others spoke to him as the boy gave the oddest battlecry, slicing into the oni's arm. "A more controlled environment would be preferable." He replied as he watched the oni roar about a kid fighting it. "Aim for his joints, kid. Immobilize the limbs." He called out. "As for you two, don't let people die because you don't give a shit." He practically snarled. Having fought in a war and nearly died, he had an appreciation for life. But if you cause trouble your life isn't worth keeping around. His legs tensed, fully prepared to intervene so the kid wouldn't die. He'd let the young one have his chance to claim glory, but if he was overwhelmed Kaze would not allow the boy to be put in a grave so early. |

City Outskirts Ashura It wasn't often that a Youkai intelligent enough so speak was found committing a fickle act of terror such as this; attacking soldiers outside of a city seemed almost below them. But, when the behemoth spoke, it confirmed it's abundance of intellect, asking them why they sent a child to fight him. Katsuo gave an applicable reply prompting Ashura to simply cross her arms and stand back. Unless it was required that she act, the woman planned to sit this fight out. The oni snarled at this insult. It snorted, and swung at Hayate with hardly a look. The boy yelped and dove to the side, the great blade passing over his head with a wind that ruffled his clothes. Then the oni charged--at Katsuo, Ashura, and Kaze. "I'll kill all of you!" it roared, jumping up into the air--surprisingly high for its girth. It came down almost on top of the three, aiming to crush them into the dust... |

City Outskirts Ashura Despite what she may have had in mind, the Oni obviously had other intentions. Instead of simply letting Ashura and Katsuo sit out, the beast charged at them after swinging it's hefty weapon at Hayate; who had managed to avoid it. The behemoth aimed to bring it's sizeable body down onto the group like a body slam. It's heft made a quick approach out of the question and Ashura was given more than enough time to conjure an illusion to replace her body with. When the beast inevitably crashed down, Ashura's illusion was destroyed in her place, leaving her to phase into view not far from the Oni, laughing as she drew her weapon. "You should have tended to those attacking you instead of drawing foes much more powerful than yourself into this skirmish," she taunted, holding her Kusari-gama at her side. "I will do this slowly so that you may savor your mistake, cretin," she announced, moving toward the prone monster. As Ashura closed in, a five foot circumference around her became enveloped with whirling death before she twisted her body and lashed out toward the slow beast with the sickle and bladed chain, aiming for the base of it's legs. If she could entangle it's feet as it was rising from the ground, the Oni would have a large problem on it's hands... |

Katuso's sarcasm seemed to irritate the Oni, and after it took a half-hearted swing at Hayate, which the boy managed to dodge on his own this time, set his sights on the Yagi and everyone else. "Alright, if that's the way you want it. Just remember, it's your funeral." Katsuo taunted as he threw himself out of the way of the Oni's attempted stomp attack. Straightening up, he reached over his shoulder for his sword, spotting Ashura standing nearby, unharmed as she prepared her own weapon. She must have been quicker than he would have guessed. He hadn't even seen her dodge the attack. Ashura moved in to attack, and Katsuo did as well. While she aimed low, attempting to tangle up the Oni's legs, he aimed for a different area, not wanting to be anywhere near the strike zone of the woman's weapon. Having landed to the side of the Oni, he dashed around to it's backside, leaping up and attempting to stab his blade into it's back. If all went well, this tactic would hopefully aid in Ashura's plan to topple the Oni, since the pain and added weight would hopefully further unbalance it. |

The large man watched the oni as it swung its heavy blade at the boy. Said boy dived, making the veteran shake his head. "Never leave your feet or take your eyes off the enemy." Kaze called out just before the bestial being turned and made his exclamation of killing them all. He raised one of his bushy brows as the thing went airborne. Why do things leave the ground? He asked himself mentally. The path was predictable, he didn't need fancy magics or agility to get out of the way. A simple skin backwards was enough to keep him from harm. The other two made some banter before attacking the now on the ground oni. Don't talk, just do. As they attacked, one aiming for the legs, the other behind and up high, Kaze did the simplest thing. He swung his great and heavy club towards the youkai's elbow, intending on shattering the bone. |

The oni crashed to the earth, bending its knees to absorb the impact. Clouds of dust were thrown every which way, obscuring the creature from sight for a moment. Ashura's chain whipped into the clouds, scattering them as Katsuo jumped through towards the creature's back. As the chain entangled its feet, the creature was somewhat hampered in its movement, but its bulk was such that Ashura, at least with the amount of strength she was currently using, couldn't pull its feet out from under it. In fact, as the demon gave a great kick, the chain tugged mightily at the woman, and if she wasn't careful she'd find herself dragged under the monster. As Katsuo stabbed down into its back, the sword meeting resistance as if he'd tried stabbing wet sand, the oni roared and began to turn in circles as its arms flailed for him, the thick fingers grasping and clawing. The chain further entangled its feet, but still it would not fall, though it couldn't move from its current position. As Kaze's club smashed into its arm, there was a great meaty crunch, and the spiked kanabo left a bleeding, bruised mess behind. The creature roared in pain again, and tried to swipe at Kaze with the same arm he'd just hit, but the swing was wild and the arm trembled with the forced movement. Off to the side, Hayate slowly climbed to his feet, still holding his sword. At least he hadn't dropped it when he'd made the dive. But still he shook with trepidation, the sweat blending the dirt on his face to mud. |

City Outskirts Ashura Ashura had succeeded in entangling the behemoth's legs, but it was strong enough to resist. The newcomer mangled it's arm and Katsuo attacked from behind, plunging his weapon into the Youkai's flesh. Since the beasts muscular body carried over into it's legs, it would require a bit more oomph to bring it down. Darting in with blinding speed, Ashura lashed out with the sickle, slashing at both Achilles Tendons, severing the muscle, making the monster incapable of standing. Hopping back, she gave the chain a strong, pull, using her Demonic strength to carrying her abilities beyond that of a human, allowing her more of a chance to yank the creature's legs out from beneath it. "I told you this would be slow," she exclaimed with a grin, her piercing red eyes staring directly at the Oni. "Death beckons you..." |

As Katsuo leaned this way and that way in an attempt to keep the Oni from grabbing onto him from his position on it's back, he had to admit, this was going about as well as he could have hoped. Ashura and the brute who had showed up had each managed to get some hits in, and the Oni had more or less lost the use of one of his arms. Looking over at Hayate, he couldn't tell if the boy had frozen up in fear again, or if he just wasn't sure how to attack. Either way, it might have been for the best. With everyone else making their moves, Hayate was just more likely to stumble into their way than actually do anything good. As Ashura made her next move, carving into the Oni's legs with her weapon, Katsuo attempted to pull his sword down the Oni's back, putting more of his demonic strength into it, tearing it open with his blade before jumping to safety. If they could keep this up, they might be able to finish this relatively quickly. |
