We've been celebrating badfic for ages here, so I think it's only fair that we consider the other side of fanfiction. Every once in a while (if the stars are right and the Valar are kind) fanfic can be a wonderful thing. No, really - it can. Picking out the gems from the Sues can be hard work: so if you have any favourites, post the details below and let us know! To start things off, here are three oldies that I love: Don't Panic! by Boz4PM (PG-13, novel) Ever wonder what would really happen if a fangirl got dumped in Middle Earth? Penny gets the chance to find out, when she wakes up in the middle of Eriador in her pyjamas. Can she overcome language barriers, strange customs, squalor, hunger, cold and a suspicious ranger, and find her way to safety? Hilarious and unexpectedly moving in places - remember all the purple-haired Sues you've had to endure and giggle. Fear No Darkness by Thundera Tiger (PG-13, novel). A post-LOTR adventure from a great writer who really knows her stuff. It's five years since the fall of Sauron, and our heroes are meeting at Rivendell for a grand reunion. But other acquaintances of a less friendly nature have also decided to visit ... An epic production with a vast cast of characters, all beautifully portrayed. Nine Men and a Little Lady by Kielle (PG, short story) My favourite Mary Sue parody - a teenager from Earth has joined the Fellowship, and things can only get worse. Read the increasingly panicked journal entries from the rest of the team, and watch canon fall apart! |

Great idea, Mathonwy. Here are a few of my favs: From Kingdom of Heaven (since all you've seen from that fandom is my work and the monstrosity I'm MSTing) The Barley Field Lady Rated T. It's an AU set during the movie so it might be a little confusing for those who haven't seen the film. Balian saves the sister of the Sultan from Reynald de Chatillon, the bloodthirsty Crusader baron, and prevents a war.Arise a Knight is the sequel. Tu Salus Fidelium Rated T. The court of Jerusalem as seen from the eyes of a pilgrim and a reluctant spy. A really well written piece of historical fiction. The characterizations are great. No prior knowledge of the film needed (I think). |

Things As They Should Be--Legolas cracks after reading a Suefic and writes his own. His friends are his unwilling victims. Things As They Should Be A Trip to Rivendell Frodo has gone insane after hearing Legolas' masterpiece and writes his own, which he reads at his birthday party. His friends are not thrilled. Fair, Cold, and Strong An Eowyn/Faramir romance. Love, Bright and Dark The sequel to Fair, Strong and Cold though not by same author. Pretty good, though pushes it when Arwen and Aragorn send Eowyn into Faramir's mind to save him. |

Here are some from my favourites list at ff.net: Among the Valar: Rated K+. In the words of the author: 'The Valar are just chilling in their immortal homes'. It's funny! Really! It's AU but will make you crack a smile. I WON, I WON, NEENER, NEENER,NEENERRR!: Rated T. The summary: Sauron FINALLY gets the Ring, but soon learns the downside when he has to deal with Sues, the 9 and three quarters Nazgul, Valar!Sues and...worser things. Rehab Rated k+. The summary: Haldir's agreed to take on the task of rehabilitating Sauron out of his evil ways, but Sauron isn't going down without a fight! It's really funny actually. Strange Alliances Rated k+. This is actually one of my favourite stories on ff.net. The summary: A battle to save the history of MiddleEarth results in the formation of several strange alliances: fangirls aid Morgoth, Sauron aids the Valar [or does he?], and certain Elves and humans must choose to serve the winning side. But which side would that be? The Final Battle: Rated K. The Summary: Dagor Dagorath has come...but there is a strange twist of the opposing sides. The Littlest Balrog Rated T. It's stupid, it's corny and AU but it's sweet! Or ‘Melkor’s Boys’. The Dark Lord has a very busy day looking after five cuddly little darlings. Well. . . almost little darlings. AU. Very very AU. Main characters: Melkor, Sauron, Gomig and various OBs. I've got more... but I gotta get to class in a few... darn. |

Master of fate Damned shall thy house be. Thou shall not question my power Nor shall thou defy me further. The Steadfast, Blind Guardian. | |

Well, this is not a parody I'm recommending, but it's a wonderful story/series all the same. I mean The Shadow over Rhudaur I-III in lotrfanfiction. The story is originally a RPG from a writer group called Northern Kingdom Writers (NKW for short). The action is set on the years 1347-49 of Third Age in Rhudaur. Basically it's about the demise of the Dunedain in that realm and the descend to evil of Rhudaur, but there are a few side plots, too. Despite of the many different writers it's quite smooth to read. Besides, the plot and the characterization are both excellent. |

I would recommend OFUM, but I think everyone's read it already. In case you haven't, here's the link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/644826/1/The_O..._of_Middleearth Gimli and Boromir Strike Back, by BoromirDefender http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1663509/1/Giml...mir_Strike_Back "Tired of being abused by Sues and their authors, Gimli and Boromir decide that for once they will get revenge." Palantir, by ElvishKiwi http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3758077/1/Palant_r "Denethor II was undoubtedly among the greatest of Gondor's Stewards, yet also the most hated. Why did he fall so low? Or did he?" Stuck in the Book, by Ainu Laire http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3967190/1/Stuck_in_the_Book "She did not wish for it, but she got it. A girl is stuck in the book... literally. Quite, quite literally." And here's one for Narnia. It's the best fic I have ever read on this site. Not exaggerating. Master of Puppets, by Three-Eyed Squirells http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4017929/1/Master_of_Puppets "When Sarasael Inari comes to Narnia, the only thing she wants is to find her way home. When she learns that it is no longer an option, she does all she can to reshape the world the way she wants, and the world remembers the Lady of the Green Kirtle." And here's one for Les Mis: Charmer of the Shadows, by LesMisLoony http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2198724/1/Charmer_of_the_Shadows "Despite what you may think, Montparnasse’s life was really a neverending search for love, happiness, and fancy clothes... until he met Eponine." |
| See, for us, there is no fight. Which is why winning doesn't enter into it. We go on, no matter what. Our firm has always been here. In one form or another. The Inquisition. The Khmer Rouge. We were there when the very first cave man clubbed his neighbor. See, we're in the hearts and minds of every single living being. And that, friend, is what's making things so difficult for you. See, the world doesn't work in spite of evil, Angel. It works with us. It works because of us. ~Reprise (AtS 2x15) | |

They are quite funny, particularly Aragorn's recording of how his hair looks and how manly he looks. Everyone contains a comment about Sam and a frying pan |
