Right, as some of you might know, I'm planning a story where Boromir gets transported to the Middle Ages. I'm going to take him back to the late twelfth century and put him in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The question is, should I do movie canon or historical canon? Movie canon is easily accessible, and I've written within it on numerous occasions, and the characters are likeable and honourable (mostly). There is some court drama, but not a lot, compared with historical canon. Historical canon is fascinating, with lots of politics, scandals, and lots of room to move because so many of the characters are only mentioned in passing and there's a lot of debate going on, but it's a big long story with a huge cast, and most of the people are wily ambitious politicians. Which would be better? Suggestions please! |

I'd vote historical, because I've never seen the movie so unless you explain it really well it might be harder to follow. |

I voted for the historical canon because while I prefer reading fiction, I know fact is sometimes more interesting. And I believe the Crusades is one of those periods. |

Well, being a history major, I can't help but vote for historical cos History is just plain fasinating. It's more interesting then any film.

Thanks for the input, guys. I really appreciate it. ![]() It won't be written for a while yet, as I've still got to finish the Chance Encounter series, but I'm planning it. Question: If I do Historical canon, how many years should it span? Movie canon goes for three years. Historical canon can range from ten to twenty years. |

It depends on what events you want to focus on, really. Then you have to factor in ages and make sure your calander of events is right...(which can either be fun! or AHH! For me its always fun..;)) |

It's deciding when Boromir can drop in without being hacked to pieces which is difficult. |

Hmm...have you laid out everything in a time line? That normally helps me. |

Yep, I've done it. It seems that twenty years will be the span of this crossover if I do historical canon. Yikes. |
