Just out of curiosity, any reason you don't type the "s" in "yes"? Not to knock you, I'm just wondering...

Oh, it's because I don't say the 's' when I say it, it's more 'yer' so I've got into the habit of typing it without the 's' as well.

Ahh, okay...because the first time I saw it, I thought it was "ye" as in "old-fashioned way of saying you" then I realized it was yes. I was just wondering. Thanks for clearing it up!

Still, Lord of the Rings was a comfort to me anyway at the time: I was fourteen and suffering from depression.

Ah, my best mate was suffering from depression when the films came out. I remember telling her that if she killed herself, we would never find out what happened in The Two Towers cos I wouldn't see the film without her.

Smashed down the light. I will not rest till I'm king. Valinor's empty now. allied the elves and men they shall be damned. A Dark Passage, Blind Guardian.

Now truly I am king of the world. Master of fate Damned shall thy house be. Thou shall not question my power Nor shall thou defy me further. The Steadfast, Blind Guardian.

Ahh, Jules, I'm still looking for a good Denethor fic for you. They're tough to find.

They are, indeed. There are quite a few cute little drabbles on ff.net that feature Denethor frolicking with his wife and sons, but even though they´re a nice change from all the ebul!Denethor fics, they´re not very satisfying. It´s as if the authors are trying to write Denethor from the other extreme: the happy-go-lucky, lovable family man. I´m sorry, but that is not Denethor, any more than the cartoonish villain is. Judging from the little Tolkien wrote about him, Denethor just seems too hard-bitten, tired, and--dare I say it--cynical, even before the palantir episode, to splash around in a fountain with his family or play make-believe with little Faramir.

Hmm, there was one where the author imagined Faramir and Boromir called their father Ada when they were little...But it was more of a seque into a cute little Faramir/Eowyn/Elboron fluff piece.

Yes, that one was very good, but I agree it focused more on Faramir and Eowyn and their growing family. Now, Faramir is more of the family-man type...I can´t forget that "moved sooner to pity than scorn" quote from somewhere in the book.

"Amras the Stableboy," by Henry Plantagenent, might be the best Denethor/Finduilas fic I´ve ever read: it´s slightly reminiscent of Shakespeare´s "Twelfth Night" and very nicely done. In it, Finduilas cross-dresses in order to play childishly along the beach, and Denethor, meeting her on a trip to Dol Amroth, is completely charmed by the "cheeky little boy," while, thanks to Finduilas´s clever maneuvering, is still unaware of her true identity. Although Denethor´s age has been moved closer to Finduilas´s by the author, and I find it difficult to reconcile this spirited version of Finduilas with the one who dies later--seriously; she´s so healthy and happy and determined it´s hard to imagine her dying of either sickness or grief--I like the fic a lot.

I read one...it was more focussed on Faramir and Boromir as boys after their mothers death but it showed Denethor well. Can't remember where though.

Perhaps it was a fic by Evendim?

Evendim--aka Eambar aka Ivriniel--writes wonderful Faramir and Boromir stories. Denethor isn't a nasty, tyrannical, abusive person, and Finduilas is featured often.

(I don't know why she has three account...)

Mm...

Violin Ghost is also a wonderful writer. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/853880/Violin_Ghost

Lilan: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/756865/Lilan

That's all I can think up of at the moment.
