This is from the author's note on chapter 10 of Illyia

Quote:

Characters that have issues or that don't do the right thing or act like idiots when they should be doing something else bug the crap out of me. So I rather be more Mary-Suish than someone who is pathetic.

To paraphrase Boromir: What new crap is this?! EVERYBODY does stupid things every once in a while! It's called being HUMAN! Flaws, and admitting them, makes people stronger, and definitely spices up a character. They do NOT make characters pathetic, but rather give them spirit and depth! A character without flaws cannot undergo a character arc, which is almost essential for any story.

If you ever find out tell us and we'll organise a massacre. . .
If I promise not to kill you can I have a hug?

Joker: You know, there are three kinds of people in this world. The optomistic that find the glass half full, and the pessimistic that see it as half empty. Then there's the paranoid, and they just think someone's drinking out of their glass.

Corrigan: Huh, then which one are you?

Joker: I'm the one who knocks the glass over.

I actually heard that..

It's a Mary Sue because the person who created her called her 'Mary Sue'.

I'll see if I can find out..

The term "Mary Sue" is taken from a character created by Paula Smith in 1973 for her parody story "A Trekkie's Tale,"[4] published in her fanzine Menagerie #2.

There ya go...

Look, everyone hates when their characters do something wrong. It's like you're a parent and they're your child. Parents don't want their children to make the wrong decision or do something stupid. But we do. And we learn from those wrong decisions, those foolish things and we grow. And that's what readers want: they want to identify with a character. They want to see that character grow as the story progresses.

And if that Suethor can't understand that, then she should get out of writing. Now.

Oh how soon, how soon
Will my love come home to me"--"Loneliness of Evening," Cinderella
