My friend wants some opinions on this story she's creating at the moment, so I offered to ask a few people... here's the summary Jess is a normal teenage girl, well slightly normal. She’s an Aspie or someone with Asperger’s. When she crosses into Middle Earth with the guy next door, her life changes… and perhaps not for the better. Now she must escape witch hunters who mistake her for one, due to her behaviour and modern ways, a prejudice town who label her and her neighbour insane and on top of all this, two suspicious friends who won’t let 'the strange pair' out of their sight. Angst, drama. Before WotR, all romance is strictly canon What do you guys think? (this topic can be used by everyone with their own stories) |

Hmm, I have my doubts about this, to be honest. I know that medieval societies were actually a lot more tolerant of people with 'the mad', as they called them back in those days because they believed truth and wisdom came from the mouths of the mad. (See Shakespeare's use of the village fool in his plays.) Middle Earth draws a lot on medieval practises. Therefore, I don't think they would be persecuted because of their 'madness', although there could be other reasons why the town viewed them with suspicion. It can be simply because they are strangers, depending on where in Middle Earth this is set. |

Also, we're talking about societies who are familiar with Elves, Wizards (Istari), and dwarves. While Tolkien didn't mention witches in his stories, I don't think witchhunts were normal for someone who was actually a witch. Spies, maybe. Or possible agents of Sauron, but not actual witches. |
