Hello friend,
Welcome to the archives of Renatia Nova, the third edition of the epic roleplaying franchise created by -DS- in 2008.
Over the past four years hundreds of people around the world have joined together to participate in the art of world-crafting, of collaborative storywriting, and above all epic role playing in a play-by-post environment. This forum is one of many similar realms created entirely from the imaginations of its inhabitants, an impressive plethora of crafted nations that include cultures, characters, languages, maps, as well as a whole other assortment of data entirely up to the author to synthesize.
Nation-State Play-By-Post Roleplaying (NS-PBP-RP) remains a very entertaining, intellectually stimulating, and educational experience that leaves us wanting for more. Bar none the best part of the entire genre is the fan-base, the community, and the people I've met along the way in sharing our common interest.
Renatia deserves another chance. We all deserve the opportunity to relive the world we created. Check back soon for exciting news.
Sincerely,
Freeman

Conservative Party, Inc A Secret Meeting of Party Leaders
The room was quiet. Everyone knew what they were doing was classified under "Sneaky Politics". No one had any misconceptions about why they were there. Top level meetings of party officials were typically held publicly, to make minor decisions.
The Headquarters was a large building in urban Virgikep. Near the center of the city, the Conservative Party took the top 8 Floors, six of them call centers, one of executive office space, and another for servers and other IT stuff. Not many people of the executives had been to that floor.
Their current meeting was taking place on the 24th floor, the one of office space. A large conference room, filled by a solid wooden desk and leather office chairs. The window behind the head of the table overlooked the city, currently illuminated by the evening sky.
Bram Kastor, CEO, enjoyed having the dramatic backdrop, but he could tell the glare was getting in his peers' eyes. He pushed a button to lower the glare-screen, and watched as Lars Garchim (Party Leader), Nora Thaps (Policy Director), Sten Oders (Lobby Liason), Rik Baret (Public Relations), and Doreen Keech (Legal) stopped squinting.
Bram took a moment to look at his notes, let the silence impose itself a little more, and then began the meeting.
"I think it goes without saying that this meeting is off the record and to be completely private. No word of this outside this room. If I see any mention of this, even rumors, in the paper, we'll be having a personal conversation. Does everyone understand?"
Nods.
"Good. Now. We've got a problem in one Lothan Marphal." Bram said. He figured it was best to get the purpose out in the open as fast as possible. He'd been in the business too long not to grab a crisis by the horns. "While he's gone to this international mediation, we have an opportunity to figure out what to do about him. The corporations want his head--or, failing that, his money. Either way, the experiment in internationalism has gone beyond our initial scope, and we need to modify our platform to take this into consideration, first and foremost. Then, we need to figure out whether we ask him to resign, or have him impeached."
Another pause, as everyone in the room wrapped their heads around this.
Lars Garchim spoke first. "Well, I think we need to consider that if we impeach Marphal we'd be getting rid of Mr. Natylis. Thobold is a personal friend of mine and i've found his work with the legislatures exceptional." Ever the politician, Lars seemed determined to complicate the matters beyond actionability. Bram didn't like it, not at all. But this was the business he was in.
Even so, there were nods. Rik Baret pushed his large-frame glasses up the bridge of his particularly large nose. "Thobold Natylis has a very high public approval rating right now. He might be a key figure in the transition. But I don't think he is necessarily linked with Marphal."
Sten Oder was dissatisfied. "Popular or Not, i don't think it'd be a bad thing to can Natylis. Our donors aren't entirely pleased with the image he created with the annexation debacle. Corporations have to battle the image that they have the government in their pocket." There was a pause as everyone looked at the lobbyist. "What?" He said quietly.
"I think you're on the closest thing to the right track, Sten." Bram said. "We'd have to clean the bums out to change public opinion. Then they could live with Takaanis whether they like how we did it or not. It would become a crazy thing one of our old Graans did, not necessarily something the Conservative Party is held accountable for. Doreen, what can you tell me about the process of cleaning 'em out?"
Doreen was an uptight lawyer type, and preferred requests to be issued politely. She'd been with the Conservative Party for 7 years and still was having trouble not looking insulted when Bram asked her questions without fancy language. "Um, There have been impeachments, but it has been legislative. The easiest option is one that doesn't require a potential subject of impeachment to preside over things. Adding to the trouble are the three new legislatures we'll have to work with, which will slow the process and is not necessarily guaranteed a favorable result."
Rik piped in: "Takasians favor Lothan 2:1. That would definitely pose a challenge."
"Yes." Dora said, annoyed at being interrupted. "And so, resignation would be the most favorable option. We will have to see how this international mediation plays out, he may resign on his own."
"I don't think the issue is Lothan Marphal. I could care less whether we keep him or ditch him. The problem is that our platform is ill defined on the areas that he is working in. We need to create a new platform that takes this into account. Also, we've got to manage the far-right faction developing within the Conservative Politics, and on top of all this we've got the minor detail that Lothan didn't actually do anything. It was the Field Marshal, Rolkin Mas, that was having the conversations with Chernovia, not Lothan." Nora said strongly.
Shivers went down their collective spines. The Military Executive was the only branch of the executive that couldn't be politically strong-armed. They weren't elected, they didn't resign. They reigned and retired.
Lars took offense to the bit about the politicians. "I'm not sure I like your attitude towards the politicians. Sedon Chider is a brilliant politician and has lots of great ideas. He's a personal friend of mine, i know him quite well. He doesn't need to be managed--we're not here to manage. We're here for policy making, which is your department."
"So it is. We need to split Sedon's faction out of the conservative party, and we need to do this with a platform change." She said. Lars looked shocked, let his mouth flap a couple times, and then kept quiet.
"So I think we get that we can solve a lot of problems within the Conservative Party by changing our platform. What do we need to change?" Bram tried to steer things back on track.
"We need to get rid of any illusions that Graanid can intervene internationally. Business and trade, sure. We don't care about foreign elections. We need to be politics blind." Nora said.
"Ok, fine, we're politics blind. Someone nationalizes an industry and Graanid corporations lose millions. What do we do?"
"Thats not serious. Why would a company do business where that is possible?"
"Thats a variation on what Marphal did with Chernovia. He handled it wrong. How can we do it right?"
Silence again.
"Businesses will make decisions that suit them. If they do business where Nationalization is possible, that is the risk they run. We don't exist to guarantee profit, just to guarantee domestic security." Rik said.
Sten was still displeased. "Businesses, especially those that support our party, want some indication that the government wont sit on its hands if another company confiscates their money."
"So we release a statement condemning action and cautioning against future business."
"Not enough, Bram. Punitive measures, compensation. They like that."
"We can't do it, Sten, its not reasonable. Its not within our scope. That gets into welfare, which we're not in the business of doing." Nora said.
"I don't think that is something we are allowed to do anyway." Doreen chimed in. Sten was silenced by the flank assault by the females in the group.
"So Item Number 1 on our new platform is to ignore foreign politics, but make statements so that we're not seen as inactive."
"Right."
"How do we say that?"
Everyone looked at Doreen, who promptly looked offended. "Well, uh, see, I don't know exactly. Let me think." She scribbled some notes down on paper...

"Here, hows that?" Doreen said, sliding a sheet to Bram.
"Good." Bram read the piece aloud, and got nods of approval.
Nora was especially pleased. "It limits our jurisdiction to the Dominion, and provides guidelines for making statements. I like it."
Sten was looking sour but kept quiet. Lars was just surly after his snub from earlier. Rik was nodding vigorously.
"So this handles our Executive quite well." Bram said. "Now, the secondary issue that Nora pointed out is this faction that Sedon Chider is spearheading. We need to have something to split him out."
"Well, what is his platform?" Rik asked.
"Militarization, purging traditional language from the lexicon, and Hadarism." Nora said matter-of-factly.
"Hadarism? But thats a fringe group!" Rik was appalled, knowing only how to cater to the majority.
"Exactly. There may not be many hadarites, but Sedon seems to have the potential to rile them up. He won a Phinnean district in the legislative election, if I recall correctly." Nora was peering at her notes, trying to disguise her disdain for Sedon.
"I think the best way to skim off the chaff is to strike at the base. Stating outright that the Conservative Party does not endorse any religion, but rather allows religious people to align with political principles we do endorse. Something like that. Think you can manage that without offending our base, Doreen?"
She glared at Bram. "Yes." Came her curt reply.
"Good. What else do we have to accomplish?"
Rik raised a frail finger. "The Secessionist movement of the last election is going to cause trouble. This crisis has only fueled their fires."
"Aren't they diluted by the Takaanis acquisition?"
"It is uncertain, we have no voting history. I could see them trending towards Sedon's Faction, Rank-and-file Conservatives, and the secessionists."
"So we have a fair chance, then?" Bram didn't like thinking about this.
"Possibly."
"So we need to craft something that takes strong shots at the secessionist movement as well. The Military is a good way to do that. Without our military, our unified military, there's no way we could stop any aggressors." Bram looked at Doreen who pretended not to see, and kept jotting notes on her pad.
Nora was nodding. "Yes, this is good. Its a thin line to walk, we need to start evaluating who will replace Lothan that can walk this line."
"If we replace Lothan at all." Lars said. "Remember, besides having immense favor in Takaanis, he's also got a significant lobby base--" He looked at Sten for confirmation, who nodded --"And he may not step down. What if this mediation goes his way, and we set up all this infrastructure to get rid of him? And Thobold Too. As I said, he's a personal friend of mine, and Thobold is fiercely loyal--especially to Lothan."
"So what are you saying, Lars? That all that we've got so far is for nothing?"
"Not in the least, Bram, but we've got to consider some difficult scenarios. This is not going to go exactly as planned."
Bram grit his teeth, but Lars was right. What if, what some crazy if, Lothan pulled one out of a hat? That would leave this group looking foolish.
"If things go well, his popularity surges, then we'd need to bring him into this conversation."
Nora looked shocked, Sten suppressed a chuckle.
Rik nodded "It is only logical."
"But he'll know we've hatched all this before we knew the outcome! It could create some deep rifts in the conservative bloc."
"Its a risk we'll have to take. We'll never get Lothan to agree if we don't level with him. He's that kind of guy, I have a lot of respect for him, but he's made some foolish decisions."
"I don't know."
"How about this." Sten said. "Since we've got the gist of what we want to say, lets let Doreen figure out the legalese and meet again when we know what the public will do. Is that reasonable?"
Rik was nodding again. "I can keep you updated on the public opinion."
"Rik, can you get any damage control out before we let the public form their own opinions?"
"I already have."
"Good. Then I'd say that is reasonable. Thank you for coming. I'll be in touch."
Bram smiled as everyone got their things together and filed out of the room. He knew he would have some angry emails waiting for him when he went back to his office, as personal politics would resume immediately. But for now, he just liked the setting sun over the urban backdrop.
