Kay, was just wondering if you ever played in tombs for the competitive games......and what your rank and fame is. Recently Ive started getting into this and its really enjoyable, havnt made it to the Hall Of Heroes yet but I havnt really had a decent group. At the moment my fame is 3 and my rank is 0, so if you did play then I was wondering when you normally do. Dinas aka Platavian :ph43r: |

I just left my guild the other day. We made it to the hall of heros a bunch of times. We actually should have won it the one time. In case you don't know what it is, it's a 3 team battle where 1 team who won the last hall of heroes battle starts in the middle holding the altar. Whoever holds the alter at the end of 10 minutes wins. You hold the alter because your ghostly hero claims it. So the other 2 teams must kill the ghostly hero and then have their own hero claim it. We had killed the opponent's hero with like 30 seconds left in the timer. But for some reason, our hero wouldn't capture the alter. He just stood there shooting some arrows. Argh. I dunno what happened... But anyway, I didn't play too much tombs. That guild most of the time didn't have enough people on to play tombs... But in the time we did play, I think I got like maybe 40 fame, and rank 1. I really only had mesmer and necromancer skills unlocked, so that's what I generally played. What you should do definately depends on what your team is using. Spirit builds were big for a while, using lots of spirit with mostly rangers. But since they made some changes to the spirits, it's made the spirit build much less powerful. My former guild like to run an aftershock build, where we'd have at least 2 warriors using aftershock, which damages everyone in an area, and give quite a bit of extra damage if the person is knocked down. So we'd have an Ele doing earthquake to be able to knock down an entire team, and the warriors would time their aftershocks with that. We'd be able to take out players before they could get any healing. Right now smiting is popular. You have E/Mo's, usually 2 of em, casting zealots fire and balthazar aura on warriors, who usually have some sort of cripple or knockdown to keep people in place. Zealots fire deals damage whenever the E\Mo casts something on that warrior, and the balthzar's gives out damage around the warrior for 10 seconds (12 with staff wrapping of enchantment). So the warriors just run into the biggest groups of people they can find... So whatever build you run, it better have some way to beat this, either by removing those enchantments, or stopping the E/Mo's or slowing down the warriors, or by killing faster than they kill you or using deaths to your advantage with the necromancers well of profane, to eliminate all their enchantments while it is up. A ele's ward against foes is good, to make their warriors 50% slow while in the ward. You can then stay away by running through the ward. Another build I heard is popular lately is a IWAY (I will avenge you) build. I don't quite know what it is, but I guess it's uses plenty of warriors with that skill (IWAY). Some others are condition builds, where you just spread conditions around and cause health degen on an entire team to wear them out. Or a fragility build where you cast fragility on people which causes damage everytime they suffer or recover from a new condition. You'd then hit em with everything you've got. For the condition build though, you better have a counter for the monk elite skill, Martyr, that draws all of their parties conditions onto the caster. The easiest way would be to use a mesmer's signet of humility, which will disable anyone elite skill for a time. Using it constantly can make them never able to use it again. With pick up groups (PUGs) It can be pretty hard to find a decent group. You should probably try to find one using voice chat, since communication can be very important. Though your best bet is probably to play in the 4v4 team arena. The day I left my guild (and lost the guild tag) I got 3 different guild invites from just playing with different 4v4 groups. Although 1 of the 3 was actually a suggestion that the 4 of us in a group form our own guild (they were each in different guilds already). So just find a good guild that plays tombs, and you should win more often doing that, and won't have to spend so much time setting up a group. And you can always leave the guild if you don't like it. I tell them before I join that I'm just trying them out, seeing how I like it.Oh, and the build I was running was Me/N with signet of midnight to blind me and the person I touch (a warrior or ranger) for 15 seconds, then use plague sending to blind another one + foes adjacent to him. So if they didn't remove the condition, I could keep them blind at all times. Then I brought some anti-caster things, usually diversion to try to divert condition removal spells so that my blinds will not get removed. Basically made some minor changed depending on what the other 3 were doing. It was awesome. The blinds definately dominated some groups, and I could definately see it save us from defeat many times. And the other skills were still more than enough for facing groups without any warriors or rangers which generally turned out to be air elementalist groups. |

As my primary char is an e/mo I find alot of business in tombs for a spiker or a smiter, most people feel fire nuker' suck in pvp(they are wrong btw ). Ive gone in there before under and IWAY build with one necro and me as a hidden smiter in the middle, it worked pretty well - we got to halls last night but got totally pwned by ranked 12 guild, plus the other people contending for the alter was a rod build and they arent much good vs iway, so half of them left mid-battle. Whenever I come up against highly organised parties(normally highly ranked guilds) they seem to prefer balanced builds, so I still think a balanced build shouldnt have much trouble beating every other build aslong as the players know what they are doing. Im currently training up my Ranger/Mesmer, I like the capabilities of these guys, you can basically stop people from attacking and with the shutdown on the mesmer if you catch and ele you can bring him down instantly. These are what I watch out most for in the pvp battles when playing as my ele, I can literally be put down in seconds flat by one of these guys. My other char is a mo/war and hes going to be purely smite, alot of people underestimate the dmg dealing capabilities of a monk, but if you smite him up then send him into close combat with the warrior skills going then he's going to do some serious damage. Anyway so if your online and fancy some pvp'ing then just give me a shout
