i played 3 games of AOEIII in about 10 minutes.

i am exaggerating of course. :P antoine told me that people rush about 10 min after game starts and destroy your colony. well....that is definitely true. some games have rush limits though. in all three games, i got rushed after about 8 minutes of building and my town was leveled.

it might be fun to actually play it though with some of you guys. no lag, no problems with router being on, no insulting so far, tons of MP support... ;)

How tactical is it? I mean if it is a rush then there seems to be not much room for clever tactics. Is that so? Is there any "rock-paper-scissor" system? Can you play 3v3 or 4v4?

I had the trial version, and it seemed pretty corny. I could be wrong but I like payed it once or twice then erased it.

single player is extremely corny, obviously.

4v4 is supported but yea it appears that it is mainly rushing. i wonder what antoine thinks about serious 3v3s or 4v4s. not just home city card spamming.

I just got this for my old man for xmas, i havent played it myself but maybe i'll get it as well. Would be good to pwn my dad at something as he still kicks my ass at chess and risk, not to mention the fortune he took off me playing poker on xmas day! lol!

I played the demo and it seems a decent game, pretty similar to the earlier AOE's. I always felt though that the earlier AOE's don't really compare that well against Starcraft or Warcraft III for that type of RTS game as all out rushes against you didn't work so well if you knew what you were doing, so you had to use a bit more intelligence and endless scouting (though mostly clicking fast).

I played AoE2 back in the day. I always played the mode where you start with technology maxed out and lots of resources in your inventory. Then you race to build an army and start harvesting more resources. There wasn't really any strategy to it, and only a little tactics. Most everyone had lots of knights and trebs (trebs take out castles and walls, as well as fighting units). With those basics, some people will take longbows, others take scorpions. The game was about your building speed, attacking in force, and also getting reinforcements in as fast as possible (because there is a limit to how many units you can have at once. There is a bit of fighting over gold mines and attacking trade wagons and causing economic damage.

I never played much of the regular game where you start with almost nothing. Games like that seemed to take 2 or 3 hours or more. If anyone disconnected, lagged, or had to leave... But the game was pretty reliable. There weren't many drops once you got started it seemed.

Bugger me .............. :P I was surprised to see an intrest in this game and the suggestion of more members playing mp
I'm still pondering the basics of how to build a town and effectivily use my troops in sp ROFL. I have never played this type of game before * to build up reasorces * then attack
Can units be placed in an effective formation ?
Hows to utilise them and differnt stages of the game ? or what to build on first to your advantage
