Real madrid have ties with the spanish banking and have had numerous debts in the past completely wiped off no questions asked. This ofc has been questioned time after time by other la liga teams but only recently has anything about it been done. They basically get a free slate to spend money they dont have, theres currently a number of probes involved in the matter but i doubt they will produce much info to warrant any action against the club/business as a whole.

Man city is just owned by a family who has 100 billion spare change... simple. It wont be long now before sports like football/nfl and others lose their support when a price is put on an individual at over 100m...

nhl has a salary cap for teams and for players, it makes it a more level playing field for all the teams. That being said there are only 30 of them unlike the ridiculous amount of football clubs.

I am not a fan of how the NHL cap works, as I would like to see it more like the NBA where you can go over the cap but have to pay a penalty. Or maybe its the MLB? Whatever, one of them works that way and I like it. The problem is that managers in the NHL still want to pay out the big dollars but then run into cap issues. They locked the players out to get a salary cap and now the floor is higher than the cap was when they started

The governing body fifa has very little influence in terms of a clubs finances. They can put sanctions and bans if a teams fans are too aggressive, but nothing can be done about how much an individual can be paid.

For years they have been speaking about how each team representing their nation in european competition should have a minimum of "home grown players", thats still being contested though.

I haven't been keeping up with the transfers, but I just saw on Sky that Man. City got Adebayor, Tevez, Santa Cruz, and Gareth Barry. WOW, that's like a fantasy team. 17 mill. pounds for Santa Cruz is way overpriced to me though.

also Man. Utd got Michael Owen? I totally forgot about Newcastle dropping out of the Premier League. LOL

Don't the NFL's salary cap have a loophole where players can be payed bonus' on top? so they could have a basic salary of 100k a week or w/e but it doesn't really mean much if they get 500k bonus for each game, but I don't really follow it so not sure if thats entirely true.

As for real madrid like baz says, the local banks fund them and then wipe off the debt as there's too much pressure on them, while the spanish government funds them by bailing them out and bought their training ground around 2000 for £250m lol

Also Real Madrid get alot of their money from an annual TV rights deal worth £153m annually. Barcelona has the same income stream. Which explains how the two Spanish clubs can afford to buy players at ridiculous amount of money.

English club negotiate TV rights as a group and the revenue is shared amongst the 20 teams. Man U got £42m, Chelsea £41m, Liverpool £40, and Arsenal £39m last season.

And man city hardly have a fantasy team, santa cruz is way overpriced, so's adebayor who's an arsenal reject and there defence still sucks, not to mention mark hughes doesn't have a clue what he's doing. They'll probably finish 5-8th.

I think Adebayor is good. I don't know about the NFL's salary caps even though I like it too. :P

I think this should answer your question. Bazz is a noob, don't pay attention to him.
This is something my friend wrote.

Real Madrid is owned by its members, which number about 80,000. In order to be a member of the club, you have to be a Spanish citizen and you basically need to be either the son or daughter of a current member that dies, or you have to wait for your turn in a long waiting list. It's complicated. So it's not really a state owned club, nor is it privately owned. Members pay membership dues, though it's only a minor part of the club's income. They also elect a president who runs the club, but who can be overthrown at any time if he screws up.

Their main source of money is a massive television contract worth billions. They also have huge deals with adidas, coca-cola, and audi. But perhaps most importantly, they are a huge international brand and sell millions of jerseys.

In order to spend $300 million in one summer, the club finances it through the cash they have now and through massive loans by Spain's most powerful banks. Unlike other clubs, Real Madrid is able to get these massive loans due to their reputation. Being able to guarantee loans is one of the main requirements in order to be able to run for the presideny of the club. If you can't guarantee a relationship with banks, you can't run. In addition, they insist that they own 50% of image rights for every player, which is a HUGE deal when employing players like Zidana, Beckham, and now Kaka and Ronaldo.

So basically, the club goes into debt in order to finance short term deals, but they hope they can recover that money in the long term by marketing these big stars. If everything fails, the club can always sell their assets, such as property all around Madrid. In fact, they sold their training ground in the middle of Madrid in the early 2000s for about a billion dollars. They erased their debt and bought Zidane and other stars.

Without a doubt, it's the most powerful brand in sports. And that's remarkable considering they haven't won a European Title in 7 years. If they are able to win the title next year (and the final takes place in Madrid), they'll make hundreds of millions, which will basically erase the debt they created by these massive purchases this summer.
