I wish I knew more, but generally films do not capture the strategies of smart generals in times of war. But I recently watched The Red Cliff, directed by John Woo, about the Three Kingdoms eras in early China. Although the movie fantasizes, it represents the strategic mastery of the generals of the time.... subtlety vs force, speed vs strength. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Cliff_%28film%29 Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3qIXQCHf94 And I think CA has been silly to not build a TW era around this time... I half expect them to do so next, perhaps extending regionally, and going up to the Shogun eras.... The emergence of the Chinese market must look appealing to them.... Anyone know of any other strategy-driven war movies? |

Why, several for the World Wars, Chinese, French and Mongolian unification struggles to just mention a few themes. The best-known generals of history also have films or even series about them, as you must know. |

"Napoleon Bonaparte" had some epic battles, but no I don't know about any strategy-specific movies. |

Yes, but do have you watched any good ones that you could name? I know a number of the WWII ones.... Midway, A Bridge Too Far, etc... You get a little strategy, and a lot of man on man drama.... which I'm all for... ;p |

I agree though, Merc. I have said for a while now that the Chinese setting would spawn the next great TW series, but they went back and did Medieval again which wasn't the great and well, you know what I think of ETW. |

You know what else sucked? Call of Duty 5. It had no sound. Ridiculous design.

Mwhahahaha! CoD 5 was awesome, MTW2 and ETW both fun. Oooh yes, I too have better design ideas. But they brought theirs to realization.

Cod 5 would have been fun had my computer not been in the 1% minority of systems that had no fix for the sound issue. M2TW and ETW both got their $:play worth for me, but for the first time ever I have no inclination to purchase a TW game. I will probably buy the next in the set, but ETW was such a bloody disappointment for me. I'll have more fun playing BBC2. I just don't have the patience to wait 40minutes to play a single game, then have connectivity errors and such. I have never seen a community such as TWs where you have competitions taking up to a year to complete. Any other RTS game does them in a matter of days. There's certainly a reason for this, no? |

Watched both the red cliffs movies, pretty good tbh, didnt expected them to be worthwile, but def. good movies. If you want TW movies the battle of Gaugamele of Alexander is pretty good (although the the movie as a whole wasnt), for me it hat a TW setting with that cool vengalis music as background, really well done there. The series napoleon indeed also got 1 good battle, didnt remember which one. I dont know, not many movies go in depth with strategys en shw much of battles, of cource braveheart and the partiot got battles in it, but you never heard or see anything about tactics. Think there just isnt a real audience for such things, also, and lets face it, we just also want a drama story with pretty girls in it... |
