Had a pretty cool experience today. Was on an elevator in the Fort Worth Club building, and on got a guy. I noticed it right away but was taken aback, he was wearing a black dress shirt of sorts, engraved on his shirt was " Congressional Medal of Honor" in a circle with other words but I went blank and didnt pay attention to those.

Around his neck was the Blue strap and Star engraved collar with the dulled finished medal. It had been awhile since awarded. I quickly stood tall and said probably the dumbest thing you could... " is that?" ..and he nodded.

I straightened my shoulders stood tall in front of him and quickly threw my hand out, he complied. "Congratulations" I said and he said thanks. We spoke for a few minutes.

Turns out he was Delta Force, he and 4 other American Heroes was at the club for a ceremony. 2 Marines, 2 Navy SEALs and Him (Delta Force). He received the medal in 1974..hes actions ill never know. I think he knew I wanted to ask, but appreciated I stayed mute on the subject. As a soldier myself, I think I can understand the Hell he must have gone through to receive such an honor. Those are his memories....

I great honor for me today....just thought I would share.

Vietnam? Delta Force was created later, so the guy didn't rest on his laurels B)

The cool thing about these medals that they also get awarded for "saving" lives, well American ones anyway, not just straight out for killing :D

Shiny, too!

Your right, it was called Delta...and was very early in the process. Delta Force was created around 78-79 I believe.

Cut from the same cloth though

Wow, very nice. That's indeed a huge honor. My dad was a 1st LT in Vietnam and I've had the pleasure of meeting two recipients myself in Washington on a reunion trip. But I didnt know that untill after the fact, they were both very humble. I doubt they would have even discussed the war if that hadnt been the whole purpose of the visit.

Its very rare to actually meet anyone who erned it since at least half were given the award posthumously.

Oh, btw, its called the Medal of Honor not the Congressional Medal of Honor. A common mistake. ;)

Bah... Don't let Cow infect you with British spelling or other errors.

I wonder how many living Medal of Honor winners there are? Sounds like a History Program series just waiting to happen.
