Kissy kissy!; The romance

INTJ ftw

Thoughts on the romantic endeavors throughout the movie? I really liked that they included so many Ron/Hermione tension moments from the books and I think the Lavender part was perfect. Spearmint toothpaste, anyone? :elena:

But Harry/Ginny? Seemed really random. Everything with Harry, really - Dumbledore's comments were way out there and creeped me out, personally, although I could see the humor.

A friend of mine called it "Snogwarts" LOL. There was a lot of that in the film. I would have loved the more climactic Harry/Ginny scene from the book, but I'm just glad they kissed at all! There were rumors that since they didn't kiss in that scene at the Burrow, there wouldn't be any at all and that was going to really upset me.

Finally, someone who thought the Ginny/Harry parts were random!! It's just that... Ginny was randomly dropped in on EVERY scene with Harry, and what for? She didn't help that much... Meh, I didn't think it was that good.

Ron and Lavender were hilarious of course, and Hermione really grew in this movie -- I could believe her every action, and I felt bad for her when Ron started snogging Lav-Lav. I am glad they're together on screen too, finally. :P

Hm, Harry and Ginny's kiss wasn't all that exciting (Harry should've kissed her, not the other way around), thank God Ron and Hermione didn't have an awkward one as well, lol.

I really like that Ginny at least had a more significant role in the film, but more than one of the scenes was just forced and, as you said, random. I think Dan and Bonnie did the best they could, it was just a weird script to be going on with.

I was really pleased with Hermione's part as well, she and Ron were great. I wished that they'd had a bit more fighting and that Hermione hadn't started out blatantly liking him. I wish it had gone just a little bit slower, but overall it was good. Everything with Lavender and Cormac was excellent.

I also wanted Ginny and Harry to kiss in front of Ron, the way it happened in the book. :( Ugh and even though I love Harry and Hermione's relationship (their scene on the stairs with the birds was really sweet), it was absolutely RIDICULOUS that Ron had no lines in the final scene.

DOES SOMETHING

I enjoyed the Hermione-central romance woahs. Between Ron and Cormac, it was almost always a laugh. Harry and Ginny, though... was very forced and random, I agree. I think as readers, we get to see the progression of their relationship so slowly over the books... and we get the definite insight into Harry's mind regarding Ginny... and it was just us watching the movie blind because they changed how it was supposed to happen, which, of course, took away from the magic of their romance.

I've heard a lot of people really upset about Ron at the end of the movie. The only explanation I can come up with is that they're starting to show the viewers that Ron is frustrated, hurt and scared... and that he will eventually leave the other two. Plus, the two scenes between Harry and Hermione that Ron was "quiet" in... well, those can be used as memories or flashbacks when Ron faces the Horcrux in the last film. So, the end with Ron being quiet didn't bug me. I actually quite liked the anguish I could feel by looking at him. :)

Oh, but I do have to say... seeing the relationship between Dean and Ginny was great. I like how sweet he looked with her in the Three Broomsticks.

And Cormac/Hermione - can anyone else see this as a ship that starts to crop up a bit more in the fanfiction world?

I was a little sad that the 'fawning' Pansy wasn't all over Draco on the train. I think in the books, he's laying with his head in her lap while she's playing with his hair... I would have liked to see that romance in the film. Oh, and of course, Myrtle/Draco, because that's total win. :P

Actually, I see what you mean about Ron, and that puts me at ease a bit. I think it's for the best that they've got the same director for the rest of the movies. I'm guessing that they'll probably play up the abandonment in the next movie (does anyone know where they're ending part 1?), which brings me back to...

Harry and Hermione! I've kind of always thought that they gave a few too many lines to Hermione, but I really do love their relationship as friends. Even though it isn't kissy kissy (lol), it's really sweet and realistic, and I think the actors work very well together. I'm looking forward to how things progress with them in the next one, and how they put emphasis on different relationships. :)

Jessi thanks for your input on Ron in the final scene. You might just have satisfied me. ;)

I agree with Jessi about the ending with Ron sitting apart. I thought it weird too, though having read Jessi's explanation it makes so much sense. There was a lot of DH foreshadowing in this movie (probably because it was the first movie to be entirely produced after DH came out, so spoilers were popping in) so it shows how Ron came to the conclusion that he does in DH. The movie Ron doesn't even remember Hermione's devotion to him on the sick bed, so he wouldn't be entirely aware of her regard for him.

Lavender was far more terrifying than I thought she'd been in the books. It was sweet how they even included the necklace she gives Ron, though it was too bad that we didn't hear Ron's commentary on it. :P Ron's commentary could have been used on a few other things as well (including Harry/Ginny).

But yes, Hermione did develop really well in this movie, and I think Emma did her character justice. :D

:lyn:

Can I just say that I find it ironic that I justified Ron.

:lyn:

Lavender and Ron were ... :lyn: I loved her. Jessie Cave did SUCH a good job as Lav. The bit where she fogs up the compartment window just... I was really :lyn: in the theater. And, as weird as it is... her and Rupert had excellent chemistry together.

Jessi, ily. :lyn: But amazingly, your justification also satisfies me. You're even making the Ron fans happy!

Lavender is not at all what I pictured her like, but I agree, their chemistry was good and she was hilarious. Won-Won! She said it perfectly. :)

Ron is a git.

Had to even it up a little.

I just thought of another kissy kissy. WE MISSED the entire Arthur/MOLLYWOBBLES bit!!!! :(

.... that was in HBP, right? :P

Yes, it was. :(

But we did get a "sweetheart" out of Tonks, even if it was at an incredibly OMG WTF moment. I did like that they made an effort to still include the ship, having them both talk to Harry and going to save him and Ginny. It was sad not to see more of Tonks, though, especially when Harry gets beat up on the train.

I love the Hermione/Ron/Lavender ship. I thought Cormac and Lavender were really great, but I do agree that Harry and Ginny was a bit weird. Especially when she tied his shoelace.

I was glad they included a bit of Remus/Tonks, though I'd prefer it the way it was in the books, but at least it was there.

Basically what everyone said. What ticked me off was either the random Tonks/Lupin moment and Harry and Ginny's kiss. Ron, Hermione, and Lavender were done wonderfully. ^_^ And although Jessi's explanation makes me feel better... not really. :P
