DOES SOMETHING

First things first: :tahi: It’s been a hectic time for me the last few years. No spare time to do much of anything… I even think for one year I fell out of the internet, lol. :hajadeha: But, I wasn’t completely devoid of writing! I’ve completed one novel (that’s currently being rewritten for the 15th time), started 3 or 4 more, written short stories, updated two chapters in fan fiction, and spent a good chunk of time researching the publishing industry. Also, had a lot of fun RPing (which, btw, is an awesome way to learn character development!). It's been a couple years since SAYS was active. Now that we're back, I want to know what everyone's been up to! |

I completed college, graduated and moved to another city to do a short term course. As soon as I returned, I landed a job and I've been working there for almost two years now. My job took me away from writing and reading, and I had a tough time making graphics as well. I didn't exactly stop writing altogether. I would pen down short stories or just some scenes that I imagined while daydreaming but I could never complete a chapter or think up a plot to turn into a story. Those were terrible times. So I hope the new SAYS will help me in that area. I have started making graphics again. Presently, I'm learning to paint digitally, which is not easy (at least to me) but I really want to do it and this time, I won't give up. ^_^ |

I graduated high school (but what an ordeal that was, oh my god) and I am now at a sandstone university studying to become a History and English teacher. :D I haven't written OF in years, however, except short stories for school, and now that I'm at uni I don't even have to do that. I took a loooooong break from writing altogether, in fact, and I got back into it by writing fanfic, but for Zombies, Run! instead of Harry Potter. |

I have been working for a pediatric neurologist for the past 5 years, learned how to do EEGs and basically been doing the full time working, single mom thing. The doctor I work for is moving though, and therefore closing his practice, so I'm actively looking for a new job. The classroom is calling me back, and I've had a few interviews. I'm hoping that by the end of September I'll be back to teaching. My girls have gotten bigger. My oldest is 13 now, and loves writing, too. I imagine it won't be too much longer before she's joined SAYS. My younger daughter will be 10 in October and loves riding horses and playing video games, lol. |

Hi! I think SAYS dwindled down when I was in my first year at university... I spent most of my three years there not-writing (I studied Creative Writing...oops). Sometime during my second year I came up with a few vague character ideas, and in my third year, because I had no other ideas, turned them into the opening of a novel for my dissertation. The positive response to the story made me toy with the idea of trying to be a writer again (as a career, I mean), and so that's what I'm doing now! I spent the first two years after university working in an office for three days a week so that I had spending money; travelling to see my boyfriend at weekends; adjusting to living at home again; and knocking out a first draft of my book. Then, four months ago, I decided I couldn't hack it anymore and quit my job on a whim. I have now moved in with my boyfriend and I freelance as a copywriter/ social media person, and am (supposedly) working on my book full time. Really, what I do is mooch about the house loving life because I don't have to do a job I hate and watch tonnes of The Mindy Project. As you can see, I am avoiding adulthood. EDIT: WHO ON EARTH ARE THE PEOPLE IN MY AVATAR THING? Edited by Andy, Sep 3 2013, 01:23 PM.

Well, since I was last active on here I've moved to the US from the UK, got married and been generally nerdy! On a serious note, I've managed to piece together my first OF and have written about 250,000 words! (about 2.2 'books' worth) Sounds impressive, eh... but I seem to have an allergic reaction to editing (my Achilles Heel) but the premise seems decent, so the plan is to get back into writing and fix it. I'm hoping the good folk of SAYS will be able to help me solve this issue! HELP!!! Finally, GREAT to see this place up and running again! I have fond memories of SAYS and look forward to many more! |

Well, I have changed a few jobs. My kids are growing up with an incredible speed and I try to spend as much of my scarce free time with them as I can. In writing, I've moved from Canon to off-Canon and been writing Harmony and Harry/Fleur ever since. My most recent, poorly neglected, WIP is the Harry/Fleur I'm talking about, which is giving me a hell of a headache to write, what with suffering from a serious writers' block. I would really love going back to it, but I'm stuck like Don Carlo's feet in that concrete block on the bottom of the Hudson river. Oh yes, almost forgot. Started writing a fantasy story, the first few chapters of which, together with each and every chapter I have ever written so far, are posted on Gluttony. I'm really excited for this second chance to reconnect with some really amazing SAYS friends, although quite a few of you I have already found via FB. |

Everyone’s been so productive the last few years! And I’m glad to see that most of you are still writing, too! Gotta say, I really want to read that Harry/Fleur story; I always loved the non-canon pairings! |

In the last few years, I have started and finished my undergraduate in Psychology. :D At the moment I'm having a bit of a break while waiting to see if I get into an honours program. I haven't written much OF apart from assignments for Creative Writing classes and random short pieces here and there. Haven't really written any fanfiction either since I started uni; I've shifted to doing a lot of RPing over at Pottersworld. :P |

Well right around the time that SAYS died I graduated from high school. I then proceeded to do a couple of years of college in Wisconsin before moving back to my hometown for some personal reasons. Just this June I married the guy I had been dating since the beginning of my senior year in high school. Writing wise I haven't done a whole lot of it since high school. I did what was required in my classes in college because I was going for creative writing but other than that not a whole lot has been done. Now that I am settled in my job and how to be an adult and stuff I am trying to get back into writing again. Haven't written any fan fiction in quite a while, been focusing on my original novels. Been plotting in order to ease myself back in, hopefully starting some actual writing by the end of this week. |

Well, Jessi, if you don't mind reading an unfinished story - unedited and the edges still not polished off - that has totally no respect for ANY Canon, be my guest :D I Remember (external link to ff.net, rated M) * end of shameless self-plug * |

Life took an unexpected turn for me. My marriage fell apart and to this day, I do not know whats going to happen. The girls are growing WAY too fast. But they are doing well. Writing has been minimal - but never far from my mind. With real life issues taking a front seat, I've had no choice but to set aside the dream for a little while. The dream is still alive though and I think with RL issues being so difficult, it keeps the dream alive. I'm doing well with my day job, just got a promotion so it helps with the day to day things. But, no matter what, I find myself clinging to my dream more than ever. My day job is just what I call it, my day job. I watch Rosie grow every day and I hate the fact that I'm not able to spend the time with her that I did have with my other two girls. The dream isn't to be rich and famous like a JKR, I just want to write, sell my stories, and make enough to work from home so I can still be a 'mother' to my girls. That's the dream and that's what I cling to so much. So fingers crossed the dream comes true because above all else, I miss my girls so much. |

TWO POSTS AND I'M STILL NOT OVER THE FACT THAT WE'RE BACK. Sorry, by next year I should have stopped abusing the capitals. First things: Elena :tackle: I'm sorry to hear what's been going on for you, lovely. I won't try to give you any advice, because I'll inevitably...be crap at it, but I just wanted to let you know that if you want to talk, give me a buzz. I will totally be here to say inappropriate things to try to make you feel better. Keep moving forward! Your girls love you, you have a dream; you'll be golden. <3 On the subject of my life...well, yikers. I finished high school, moved to Sydney from my home state of Tasmania for eight months, accidentally went to a party hosted by the Bra Boys (a notorious gang, and no, they don't seem to be aware of how hilariously ungangster their name is) and promptly questioned all my life decisions before moving to Melbourne. I was a nanny for about four months, which would have been really awesome if it wasn't for the mum, then I moved AGAIN to this hippy, vaguely communey house before realising that I'd been out of school and home for a year and a half and I was getting antsy. So I started my BA (double major in English Lit and Cinema), lived in England for six months while doing that, fell in love with a pretty massive number of my female tutors, realised that bi curiosity was kind of inaccurate terminology (sorry tmi) and promptly did nothing about it because I have zero game with anyone. Umm...started writing a bit more OF, then had a year where I wrote nothing, then had two of my porny gay short stories published by dreamspinner (YEAH BOI) and decided to write a novel because YEAH. Tried to write 2000 words a day, which worked while I was on holidays and got me to 12k before I realised that I had homework and, you know, a job, and I stopped writing it for about four months until today actually. Started a massage course so that I have something to do money wise while I pursue my New Dream of becoming a screenwriter/tv showrunner cos why not. Also became embarrassingly dependent on sterek fanfiction on ao3. PLEASE TELL ME YOU UNDERSTAND. Aannd if you want an update on my love life (WHO DOESN'T AMIRITE) I'm currently seeing this girl who I can't tell if we're flirty friends or genuinely just taking things at a glacial pace. See: lack of game. ETA: WHOA THAT WAS LONG Edited by icefire_lioness, Sep 25 2013, 02:55 PM.

What's up with juls? Not too much different here than before, but then again there are differences. I no longer work for McDonald's (thank god!) but now work for KFC - not much of a switch, but generally less stressful for on me in many ways. I'm still with my boyfriend (TEN years in December - woo hoo!) and we changed apartments during that time. It's much bigger, and I now have a nice flight of stairs to go up and down. Seriously - it's a good thing. Through his oldest daughter, there's two granddaughters to spoil, and his middle daughter will be blessing us with a grandson. Health wise - erm. I found out I have diabetes as well as high blood pressure. It's been a struggle there - but cutting out A LOT of sugar has dropped be a few sizes and about sixty pounds. I still crave the sugar, slip up and well..... not good. I'm still writing - in an RP forum. Up and down there with writing partners as well as myself not always having time to post. I still have not given up on the original fiction, and some of it has popped on Gluttony. Though - even though I loved Twilight - because of Twilight I'm kind of gunshy on producing my own vampire novel. Even if they do seem all the rage. I'm just glad to see everyone coming back, and hearing about all the changes that have gone in everyone's lives. The good and the bad - with hugs and kisses. I just can't believe it's been almost five years since I've talked to most to you. To Elena: Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry for what you're going through also. I've been there, and fortunately I didn't have children with him (we did try, and hindsight, even though I would have loved them, glad there was no tie to him in that way.) Your girls are so precious, and in whatever you do, it's for them. |

Ha!! It's almost exactly one month since I wrote this post and I am indeed back in the classroom (almost 2 weeks tomorrow) and I LOVE it! I'm teaching Kindergarten at a private school and feel like I've come home. 5 years ago I swore I would never teach again and have only my knack for procrastination (and slobbishness) for never actually getting rid of any of my stuff. Now I have to seriously go through it all and reorganize it (it's been in bins in my garage for 5 years). I am exhausted, seriously, fell asleep on the couch at 8pm last night watching tv with my girls. And my feet hurt, as I am on them so much more. Hoping that being active will help me lose the 30lbs I gained sitting on my butt as a secretary for the past 5 years. I don't have a lot of free time as when I do get home I'm doing the mom things...at least if I can manage to stay awake long enough to do them, lol. Odd that my life was pretty much status quo for the entire time SAYS was down, but when it woke up, so did I. |
