Mplayer vs VLC- Which One is Better? Want to figure out which is best media player: VLC or Mplayer? This page will give you a detailed comparison between two popular media players. ![]() Question: Which video player should you use Mplayer or VLC? Mplayer vs. VLC, which is better? This may be a naive question, but is there any advantage to mplayer over VLC? I've generally heard good things about VLC (across all platforms), but even though Mythbuntu installs VLC by default, the standard setup plays videos within MythTV using mplayer instead. Basically, I'm having trouble getting mplayer to do something that VLC does pretty much automatically, and I'm wondering if I'd lose anything by changing my default player to VLC. However, someone says when playing .swf files in VLC player 1.4, they can't see video but the audio is perfect. What should I do? MPlayer and VLC MPlayer is a free software and open source media player. It can play a wide variety of media formats including the AVI, MKV, RMVB, MP4, MOV and etc. and can also save all streamed content to a file. MPlayer may already be a fantastic solution because of its modular architecture, but it can be improved even more in ways that VLC cannot. However, it is a little complex for new users to learn how to use it. ![]() VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. VLC doesn't aim to be the easiest-to-use media player, but rather a media player that works well across a large number of formats and codecs like MPEG-2, DivX, H.264, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3 with no codec packs. ![]() Comparison between Mplayer and VLC Media Player ![]() Whether MPlayer or VLC is better is up to you because VLC is easier to configure and use, but MPlayer could provide more benefits in the long run with various system configurations. Whatever the case is, it's important to know that there's another fantastic media player besides VLC, and that it's worth taking a look if you're getting tired of VLC or find that it's not performing as optimally as you think it should. What's more: If you are worrying about system freezing out or crashes when playing videos with MPlayer or VLC, try Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate (Read Review). ![]() It enables you to convert Blu-ray, DVD and all of the widely used videos and movies in popular formats such as the WMV, AVI, MKV, VOB, FLV, F4V and much more to multiple video formats for iOS/Android/Windows Tablets & Phones and Media Players as well as video editing software including Sony Vegas, Pinnacle, Avid MC, Premiere, and more.
