A Race to Pain: “Ge’ up!” hollered a booming voice from outside the shady wooden door only attached by one rusted hinge, “I said, Ge’ up! You have a match wit Torglun Everit, and yer gonna forfeit th’ match if’in ya don’t get out her now!”
Arba jerked upright from her wooden board that was supposed to be a “bed”, “Alright hold your horses mister I’ll be there in a moment,” when she herd the footsteps of the large man disappear Arba muttered to herself, “God he is one rude mister, I sure would like to give him what he has-”
“Are you Arba?” inquired a short Gnome-like creature.
“Oh, uh… yea,” turning her surprised attitude into her normal over-confident one, Arba exclaimed, “I am Arba Fachè, The Compass, hunter extraordinaire.”
“Ha ha, sorry for startling you but if I could point “The Compass” to the entrance hall…?” Arba shook her head while thinking to herself how rude this four foot creature was to insult her name; the Gnome, while leading Arba, continued on to ask her questions about how she came to the arena, and why would she willing fight others, “Okay well, we’re here. Wish you luck, you’re gonna to need it I hear your opponent is some big shot who had won a couple matches before.”
Arba acknowledged the small thing’s comment but did not even bother looking at him so much as to give a response. With the short man’s soft steps slowly getting quieter the metal door swung open and the roar of the crowd filled Arba’s ears; this is where her first fight would be and she knew it was going to be a fun one.
“Well here I go,” Arba said to herself as she took her first step into the roaring light of the arena….
To someone in the crowds’ eyes there would seem to be a small pale dot running in the pit shaking her hands, and if one was close enough to hear the combatants that person would hear, “Oh thank you! Thank you for coming here to see me, The Compass. I’ll be sure not to let my glorious fans down, I will win this fight; I promise.”
“Heh,” a quite laugh aroused from the far edge of the massive arena, almost too quite to hear, “Are you sure you’re going to win?”
Arba saw that the man who so rudely stopped her glorious moment was her enemy, “Oh no you didn’t!” screamed Arba, “If you’re going to be so mean about it why don’t you waltz your little smart butt down here and take me on, jerk!”
The medium height man stood up from his “cool” posture leaning on the side of the stone arena wall, “Okay then but don’t cry if I hurt you to much, Arba Fachè.”
Pissed off Arba yelled back, “Did you just call me by name as to show authority? Well I think you’re going to pay dearly for that!”
With that last remark Arba swiped an arrow from her quiver, loaded her bow, and shot with a hell of a lot of force, which is not like a normal archer to do (open out a match with an aggressive shot). The arrow flew fast, almost in a straight line! Torglun not only expected Arba to shoot an arrow (since she clearly had a large bow) but clearly saw the shine of the arrow head approach him. Easily Torglun dodged the shot by stepping a little to the left but then noticed there was another arrow flying right toward him already at almost the same speed. Torglun still had ample time to step aside from this arrow as there was much space in between the launch point and the target (him); so thinking with a normal person’s logic Torglun stepped to the right and now was in the path of the prior arrow. Standing, watching Arba, Torglun stopped thinking of that second arrow, the arrow that would cause him to lose the match….
“Gargh!” Torglun exclaim as from a seemingly random point in time, “What was that!?”
Looking down at his right thigh there was a long wooden rod lodged into his flesh, at the end of the stick was an arrow tail!
Torglun was struck with the second arrow shot; both he and the bewildered audience wanted an explanation so Arba gladly told in a riddle, “Why do you think the call me the compass? If that doesn’t help then let me tell you this punk, opposite charges attract.”
Arba put her hand over her mouth and began to giggle. Torglun looked at her with hatred and anger. He started to mutter to himself, but Arba did not care she was blowing kisses to whom she thought were her fans. Then in the corner of her ear Arba herd flesh twisting and ripping, she looked around back toward Torglun to see what this person could be up to. She looked upon a different person and she could tell this enemy was no longer Torglun but someone, or something else. She saw that the arrow which was lodged in Torglun’s thigh was forcibly ripped out and a large tear was evident; not only was there no arrow but there were two more large dark arms jettisoning from Torglun’s trunk.
Arba yelped, “Ew! What are those things? You’re a freak you know that right?”
It did not seem like the beast herd what Arba said but it was apparent the Arba was being charged.
“Oh, shit!” Arba yelled.
She was fast but not fast enough to dodge this raging beast, Torglun body slammed her into one of the stadium walls. The impact caused Arba to lose all movement for some time. All this time Torlgun, with his four arms, was pummeling Arba into a bloody mess. When she could regain some of her energy Arba twitched her two fore-fingers and the beast let out a yell. In his back there were two arrows, the two that Arba had previously shot.
“I can shoot arrows infinite times like that so watch your self ass!” Arba smirked when she had outsmarted the thing. Torglun leaped back and put his hands in front of himself. Arba took this time to equip another arrow and launch it in his direction. However, right before the arrow could strike Torglun a dark sphere appeared in front of him and was launched in the reciprocal path of the arrow eradicating the arrow as it traveled. Now there was a dark orb flying right toward Arba. She tried to dodge it but was still hit in the side.
“Man, that thing is fast!” Arba cringed in pain.
Rushing toward her again Torglun had his shadowy arms forward ready to strike. Thinking in the instance, Arba took a bundle of arrows and shot them toward the beast. Magnetism had a “fun-day” and the swarm of arrows began to move around in peculiar motions. The arrows cut and sliced into Torglun’s skin causing extreme pain yet no sounds came to show it. Torglun just wanted to win, as did Arba. Again Torglun charged energy and launched a shadow strike. Arba knew how it traveled so she dodged accordingly, however there was another one right behind it that she did not see traveling a different path. It hit her dead on.
“Argh!” gasping in pain Arba exclaimed, “Ha ha ha ha, so you played the same trick as me, touché.”
Torglun smirked and then once again began to charge toward Arba.
“I’ll get you this time!” he yelled.
Arba ran away from her, it literally looked like a game of tag; only the chaser was deadly and blood thirsty. Arba never looked back as she ran but she saw dozens of shadow strike pass right by her. Arba turned around to see Torglun was running right toward her. Thinking she was going to lose Arba thought she would take out an arrow, so she did, but she just held it in her hands in front of her. The charging Torglun was to close to stop and then ran into it. Arba could tell he was in pain and while he was worrying about his wound Arba ran to the other side of the arena. Looking back on Torglun the event happened.
Torglun, again, prepared a shadow ball to launch at Arba, but this time it was much larger than any she had seen before, this one would sure knock out Arba –or anything living that touched it for that matter. Arba’s injured body was shaking she knew this would cause her lose unless she could do something about this incoming attack. Torglun was still gathering dark energy when a smirk found its way onto his face. Arba saw this grin and started thinking that this maniac would kill her! With each passing moment energy was coursing into the dark ball and Arba was getting more and more nervous. Beads of sweat were running down Arba’s face cooling her face but not her fear, what could Arba do? Tension was building everyone in the crowd was silent, not even the vendors were selling goods, all eyes were on that orb, that death. Arba had an epiphany turning her hair and eyes dark sliver, she gazed into Torglun.
The demonic voice of Torglun echoed, “Changing hair styles won’t help you witch!”
With that Torglun launched the sphere toward Arba with all his might the ground ripped every time contact between it and the shadow ball made contact. Arba took a big gulp of saliva hoping her plan would work. With her hands by her sides everyone thought she was done for, but Arba knew better. Not moving any other part of her body, due to fear, she managed to shake her two fore-fingers of her right hand…. The charging ball of dark energy stopped and slowly dissipated. The crowd was stricken with awe and amassment.
“What the hell!?” yelled some loud mouth within the crowd, “How’d you do that!?”
Gasping for air Arba grunted in response, “H-he has i-iron in his blood, duh,” coughing up blood Arba continued, “I-I just pulled him into his own attack before it reached me. See, look.”
Arba mustered the rest of her strength and pointed to Torglun’s fainted two-armed body lying on the ground where the shadow ball had disappeared. Satisfied with her victory Arba magnetically pulled all of her arrows back into her quiver and limped out of the arena.
