| Karro walked back into Skocut for the first time in years. Once walking its streets with his pockets full of cash and an armed guard in tow, he now walked them with neither. Now he had only his wits and his weapons to keep him alive. Karro spent much of his time wandering through the crowds watching them. He needed food, and he knew a town like this probably wouldn't hesitate to kill him for stealing an apple or two, so he would have to find someone who wouldn't miss the gold he needed too much. After wandering around quite a bit, Karro became a bit discouraged, no one seemed to be carrying much on them today. He wandered down the road a bit and he eventually came upon a tavern. He decided to wait outside of it for a drunk or two. Simply put, it would be like taking candy from a big, drunken baby. If the candy happened to be gold or something else of value. So he sat and waited in an alley across the way, making sure no one passing by would become suspicious. |

Many moments pass as people go into the tavern. None come out. The time passes slowly but still none leave. As the end of the day draws closer there seem to be more people going into the tavern than before, but not the usual crowd you would expect. Surely the tavern would be full by now, yet on they enter. None leave. A few men with shifty eyes walk toward it, they have weapons sheathed at their belts and tunics with a strange symbol embroidered on the front. The men look around anxiously, nervously, and a bit hastily. Their eyes shoot from building to building as they approach, their heads turning to get a full view of the darkened night outside the tavern. They too walked inside, but when they opened the doors you see almost no one inside, as if there were the last few drunks before last call. The men vanish into the tavern, the last looking around with the doors wide open before closing them both and retreating inside the building. The last light goes out and all is quiet, no one leaves as the porch lights go out and the shutters are closed and locked on the windows. A few guards are spotted from time to time patrolling the dark streets, none of them notice the odd occurance at the tavern. This is not from a lack of experience in their jobs, but they seem completely oblivious to what you see and walk off into the night. It seems the guards make regular passes on their routes every ten or so minutes. But the last guard you had seen was nearly a half an hour ago. The silence is eerie as the shadow of dark clouds form and cover the moon. |

| Naturally curious, Karro decided he would investigate, but first, he unsheathed one of his daggers and set it in his left boot strap. He stood up from his hiding place, and slowly made his way towards the tavern entrance. He made sure that no one was coming as he opened the door, he stepped inside of the strange tavern and closed the door behind him. |

As you turn from the door you find yourself staring into the center of darkness itself. The place is unnaturally devoid of even a hint of light. Floorboards creak as you hear the approach of what you can only asume to be a guard. The heavy foot steps stop and you hear the ruffle of a hand through a pocket. Metal clangs and a squeek is heard from a metal hinge. Several small objects rattle around in a confined area, and you hear heavy paper sliding across more heavy paper. The objects are now being moved around before the paper sound appears again. You hear the noise of a small object connect with a larger one, the sound is rough and the smaller object begins to slide across the bigger one. The sound is all too familiar. You see a spark appear as the match is about to ignite. A second pair of feet can be heard standing, or rather shuffling, as if waiting uneasily for something. The spark is about to fly as a footstep is taken forward and the glass and metal cling together, that of an object close to the spark... (Hopefully i got the picture across and gave you enough time to do what you need to.) |

| Karro felt for the door behind him and then felt beside it for the wall. He quickly found it, and with his hand constantly touching it, he moved as silently and as quickly to the left of the entrance as possible. The small spark had given him enough of a hint as to move away from the doorway. He moved silently and waited for whatwas about to happen. |

The match continued on its path and more sparks flew, igniting it in flames. The figure held it inside a lantern the other figure had been holding. The first figure put away the matches as the second closed the latch on the lantern. Holding it outright they looked around, seeing only the walls and door. Luckily they stopped before reaching a full circle, the light inches away from illuminating you. A whisper could barely be heard, "put out that light and get away from the door and windows!" it sounded with authority and rage. The two obeyed, and as the one holding the lantern blew out the flame, you could see that at least he was human. The first figure seemed to be similar to that of the man, but you had not seen any features. Before leaving they decided to lock the door, latching the noisy bolts into place and hefting a large wooden board into place that barred the doors shut and would require the strength of two average men to move. They walked away through the darkness toward the whisper, the sound of their footsteps fading away into the distance after seeming to go down, as if using stairs. The silence returned and only made the situation more eerie, the darkness recapturing its domination over the inside of the tavern and sending away any focus your eyes had achieved while the light was lit. |

| Karro picked up on the fact that the tavern was not quit4e what he would call ordinary. First, he decided, he would have to find out where the hell he was. But he quickly changed his mind. He followed, to the best of his ability, the sound of the footsteps. It was a bit hard due to the fact that he had to imagine them. Eventually though, he found where the men had disappeared to, he climbed down the stairs. |

As is by a gust of wind, the doors to the cellar shut behind you. You hear voices ahead, "Damn doors, come on let's open em up...again." Two sets of feet could be heard climbing the stairs. You pitch yourself to the wall and hold tight as the men pass bye. Some ways up the stairs they try to open the doors but they wont budge. "Damn latch must have closed. Come on, this will take forever if you dont put more force into it." said the same voice. Remembering to when they had climbed the stairs you take the ammount they stepped before geting to you and then reverse the memory of them. The sounds tell you where the floor boards are weak and will squeak, and you think hard for a moment. You find your path, then look back up the stairs. It is still only darkness but with what you can think it looks like you picture the scene in your mind. You stand for a moment and contemplate if you should take out the guards or slip past unnoticed while they are busy. |

| Karro thought over each decision carefully. If he left the guards there, they could present a problem later. But, if he left them alone, there would be less chance of getting caught early on. It didn't help that it was still pitch black...Karro thought on it, and decided to let them live for now. He made his way down the stairwell as the guards fiddled with the latch. |

You reach the bottom of the stairs without a noise made, your feet touch down to the hard surface of a cement floor. Feeling to both sides you find yourself in a corridor with brick walls on either side, the distance between seems to be enough for two people to fit comfortably. As you walk down the corridor you feel the air change and stop. Feeling around you notice that you are at a perpendicular intersection with another corridor. You hear hushed voices to the right, nothing to the left, and a miniscule source of light can be seen in the distance ahead of you. A thump is heard as the guards finish with the door, returning to their positions. There is now no going back without bloodshed or a great deal of luck. |

| Karro had spent enough time in the dark to know that if you're caught, there is still a good chance of escaping. He made his way towards the voices on the right, hoping that he would be able to ambush them in the dark before they noticed him. |

As you draw closer there is an increase in the volume as well as number of voices. You hear what seems to be a large body of people discussing something with eachother, there are some people dominating the conversation but it seems almost out of control. Vibrations strike the ground as you hear footsteps approach from behind. There is one that is significantly louder than the rest, but up to seven beings come toward you. Those in the room seem to hear because they all stop talking and wait for the arrival of the group. Trapped between seven approaching beings and a room full of what sound like people, you have to think quick or your next move may be your last. |

Your timing couldnt have been better, the people inside believed that the seven had opened the door, and the seven believed that the people inside had anticipated their arrival and opened it for them. You hear the seven descend stairs past you, one of them closing and latching the door, then rejoining the others in walking toward the center of the very large room. Flames flicker into existance in places all accross where the wall met the beginning of the domed ceiling. The now dimly lit room shown before you held a massive ammount of people, which came as a stroke of luck to you along with one other fact. The only ones there with matching colors and uniforms were various warriors or guards, the others wore an array of different styles and colors of clothes, making you fit in all the better. There was a raised platform in the center of the room that lifted higher. Six of the seven people stepped toward the outside, they were guards for the one left in the middle. This man towered over all of his guards, both in height and sheer muscle mass. The brute of a man seemed out of place in his clothes, which consisted of a diplomat's robe, tattered over medium chainmail armor. The man's face was strong but handsome at the same time, which seemed to set this man even more apart. The colors of his robes were that of a clan known to have been of great influence at one point in the city of Skocut, until their downfall at the hands of their tyrannic leader. They were said to have been operating in secrecy for years somewhere in the city's more shady communities, but it had never been confirmed. It seemed that those here were friends of the man, and held him above all else as a leader. Many cheered as the platform rose in the air, climbing higher until it towered over all of those within the room. The guards raised their hands high, signalling for silence. This was granted hastily and anticipation was high in the air tonight. |

| Karro stood there, almost in disbelief of his luck. Although he wouldn't be able to make much, if any, gold tonight, he would at least have some information he might be able to use later. Karro stood there anticipating what this was all about. In the many years since he had been to Skocut, he hadn't heard much news, so anything new was exciting. |

The man's voice is cast out, but it seems as if he is right next to you speaking in a conversational tone. There is magic at work to keep this place secret, and the display of his platform lifting off seems to be only the tip of the arsenal of magic these men and women wield. "The time has come, my brothers and sisters. The day of our reign is long overdue, and I am here now to tell you the wait is over." A controlled applause was heard, this too seemed muffled and not as loud as it should be. "The shift will take place in two days time, be ready for a fight. There will be an attempt to resist us, but we have men on the inside that can minimize this threat. So, gather armaments and prepare yourselves for the fight, we need you now more than ever." finished the man, followed by an applause and the descent of the platform. The lights began to go out, one by one, making the room dark again. |

Karro stood there thinking for a few moments. He could feel some members of the crowd start to move towards the door. If there really was going to be a shift in power, what would that mean for him? He might be able to get back into one of the noble houses if he were to report this, although, he could also aid the members of the meeting. Karro thought this over as he headed for the door. |

The people arrive at the door and open it, moving to either side and letting the seven men out. Once their leader was out they all began to leave in groups of three, or so it sounds. The darkness still prohibits you from seeing the people move out, but you are bumped into from all sides as people move toward the door. It is slow moving as there are pauses in between groups leaving, but it moves along with a rhythm and the room soon sounds less clustered. You are grabbed by the arm and yanked up to the door by what appears to be a guard, he puts you in place behind two other people. You follow the men toward the intersection, then make your way over to the stairs and up into the tavern. The doors are open, letting the light of the moon enter as the only illumination. You notice your trio is one of the last to exit. The fresh air of the outside greets you, a breeze entering from one side and making you feel cooler. Until now you hadnt noticed how warm it had been inside. And, until now, the men hadnt noticed you were different. "Hey, who are you?" asked one of them, "I know everyone down there and you arent someone i know." he said. The man next to him turned to you as well, looking you over. "Oh come on, it's late and you have had some drinks. Go home and rest, tomorrow if you see the man and he is not someone you know, get to know him." said the second man. The first man seemed somewhat upset by the second man's proposition, so the second added, "Or kill him. Either way, get some rest before you do something foolish." This other option lightened the mood of the first man, and he turned toward an alley, walking off into the darkness. The other man was still there, though, and he took you by the arm, leading you around a corner. "What are you doing here? He was about to kill you?" asked the man. You dont recognize him, and he seems to address you not as a friend but as an ally. |

Karro looked at the man, trying to remember if he had seen him before. Nothing came to mind at the moment. "I am here for the same reason as most of these people." Karro acted nonchalant as he said this, trying to get the man to leave the question be. "Besides that, I could have easily taken care of him, although I was hoping it wouldn't come to that." Karro kept looking at the man, noticing his mannerisms and the way he moved and spoke, trying to break him down to see if he could get more information about him. |

| "Good, cause you dont wana know what we would do to you if you didnt share our views. But you need to make yourself known to some of the higher up people so that no one thinks twice before accepting you as one of them. He was correct when he said he knows everyone in there, we must know all in our ranks or else outsiders could just slip in. You better not be an outsider." he said with enthusiasm. Then he grins and pats you on the back, "Tomorrow you should introduce yourself. Get some sleep though, there is much to be done in the coming days." he said, then walked off into the night in the same direction the first man had. |

| Karro was pretty confused by the happenings of the night. He was clear on the motives, but not on what he should do next. He wanted to stay and work with the plotters, but he also didn't want to risk getting caught and possibly killed. He was at an impasse. It was at times like these he liked to get a drink at a tavern and soak up the information, but he was wary of any more taverns...Nonetheless, he wandered through town and he eventually found another tavern, although, it was closed. He decided to sleep out in the alley next to this tavern. Karro walked down the alley and sat against the wall facing the alley's entrance. He closed his eyes and slept lightly, wary of any would be thieves. |

As you awake you notice how no thieves even seemed to think of robbing you as they passed. It was as if you were either one of them, or infected with some sort of disease or the like. But as you stood you knew it wasnt the first, for you spot soldiers standing at the opening to the alley. Turning from them you see more soldiers at the other end of the alley, they approach from both sides and close in around you, offering no escape. The officer of the bunch, a man that stood slightly shorter than the rest of the men, walked inside the circle they had formed. Withdrawing a scroll from his pocket he unrolled part of it and consulted it, then you. He scanned your face with his eyes, seeking any disturbance from what was on the scroll. Nodding, he unrolled more of the scroll, reading off, "Karro Tebari, you are wanted for the following charges: Theft, Conspiracy to Murder, Suspicion of Treason, and Carrying Weapons without a Valid Permit. We are ordered to take you in, this can happen the easy way or the hard way. We have more men stationed at either end of the alley, and on the roof," he said, signalling a command at which point several bowman and crossbowman stepping into view on the rooftops of buildings alongside the alley. "We are ordered to use all force necessary, please do not make me enact that order. Allow us to take you in without an incident. If you attempt to harm any of my men you will either have charges added, or you will be dead." he said, waiting for a response. |

Seeing he was surrounded, Karro decided to play along until they jailed him. He knew that unless they had already had an execution arranged, he would be moved into a jail cell, and there wasn't a cell that could hold him. It helped that Skocut nobles were more worried about money than about holding prisoners. He stood up and put his hands in the air. "You know, you guys really work fast. I haven't even had a chance to do any of those things...yet." Karro chuckled a bit, mostly at the faces of some of the more veteran guards. |

Two guards approach and bind your wrists, one retaking his position in the formation, the other holding to the chains and pointing you in the right direction. The officer motions for all but a handful of the men to disperse, having those left form up around you in a circle. Giving a silent command a bag is put over your head to mask your identity. Walking out in front of them, he leads through the alley and into crowded streets. You hear the shuffle of the soldiers' feet as they make several twists and turns. People around don't seem to pay much attention, not seeing your face they dont have much to gossip about, so they keep quiet. You feel a tug on the chains and are stopped, all of the soldiers have paused except the officer. He is heard walking forward a few steps, low words are exchanged and a large iron grating sound can be heard, then a large snap as a metal bar is wrenched free of its captivity. A heavy sound of wood and stone sliding against eachother can be heard, and the soldiers once again advance forward. You find yourself walking up a few steps and into a different surrounding. The air is not as crisp or fresh, the smell of food is evident in the air, and multiple people are talking in a concentrated area, as if huddled together. The light echo and bending of the sound of words you just miss suggests they are in a corner, but as you take a few steps inside they stop and shuffle their feet. The guards are excused and the officer walks you through the room a ways, before saying, "Do not make any quick movements, any one of the men in this room will kill you without hesitation." He then removes the chains and metal they are connected to that bind your wrists, letting them drop to the ground behind him. He reaches up and puts his hands on your shoulders, forcing you into a chair you are right in front of, then removing the bag from your head. He then walked accross to the other side of the room, taking a seat in a corner and preparing for what is to happen next. Your eyes adjust slowly to the sudden increase in light, but as they reach a tollerable level you can make out the faces of the men accross the table from you. There are three men apart from the officer, two of them you do not recognize, but the third is the man who talked a man out of doubting your allegiance to the rebels the night before. This man sits at the direct opposite side of the table, the other two sit on either side of him at the sides of the table, facing you. "Captain, get this man some food." said the man from the night before, he seemed to be pulling all the strings of this encounter, and the officer stood immediately to obey. The food you smelled was sitting on a table accross the room, it was almost a buffet there were so many different types of foods. Grabbing a plate the officer used the tongs to grab some items and arrange them for you, he then walked over and set them in front of you, returning a moment later with an empty wooden goblet and wooden eating utensils as well as a napkin. In the middle of the table sat a bottle of fine wine, the leader instructed the captain to pour some for him, and to fill your goblet as well. This done, the leader instructed the man to do one last task, he was to pour some of the wine into another goblet and take a large gulp of it. Having done so, the man returns to his seat in the corner. "You should have sufficient proof the wine is not poisoned, and it would be awful tedious of me to arrange the food so that it looks as if it had already been dined upon, just to sneak some poison there as well." said the leader, raising his goblet in the air and toasting, "To the long, healthy life of our dear ruler!" he then took a large sip of the wine and judged your reaction. |

"I don't drink wine, but, life to our ruler nonetheless!" Karro never liked wine, plus, he needed his senses sharp if he was going to survive this encounter. "Now I know you didn't make this feast just to entertain me. So, why am I here?" |
