The game will, for the players, run like most semi-freeform RPs. That is, you post your character's actions as you would expect, and you try to stick to realism and common sense. Many players can post what they're doing, but controlling is to be kept at bare minimum. Then, a GM will post in reply, describing the effects of the players' actions, what the NPCs do, and the general events. However, the twist here is that you may not always succeed or do everything as intended. Behind the scenes (and without the players knowing anything about it), the GM will be rolling dice and making checks, using a slightly modified version of the SR4 ruleset. Sometimes, the GM might roll that the super-duper magical fireball you just cast didn't quite work out the way you expected it to, and instead turned out to appear in astral space instead of the physical world. The reason for using a rule system is that it adds a bit of a random factor to the game, and it allows more possibility of improvising and springing new elements into the RP. In regular freeform or semi-freeform RPs, there's just no surprise at all -- unless another player manages to come up with something surprising, that is. But even then, it's just a story that you read and write, and there's not much more beyond that. |
