Fable II

About
Fable™ II is the true sequel to the wildly successful original that sold more than 3 million copies, offering even more choices and building on the core gameplay theme of "Fable," where a player’s every decision continually defines whom they become. "Fable II" is an action role-playing game (RPG) that truly allows players to live the life they choose in an unimaginably open world environment.

Set 500 years after the original, "Fable II" will provide gamers with an epic story and innovative real-time gameplay, including a massive amount of freedom and choice to explore a vast collection of dungeons, catacombs and caves in the world of Albion.

Features
Choices, consequences. The innovative gameplay pioneered in the original Fable provided gamers with a never-before-seen level of immersion in a truly interactive world. Fable II expands upon the scope and depth of the Xbox classic by adding incredible new features and creating a wider, more complex kingdom of limitless choices and consequences. Players will have the option to play as a man or woman, get married, have children, and live a life of their own design.

A land far, far away. Revisit the sprawling world of Albion more than 500 years after the events of the original Fable, where you are free to explore the landscape and openly roam the countryside. For the right price every house, hut, dungeon and castle is for sale. Players can witness how the world grows and changes in response to their decisions in incredible and unique ways as they rediscover Albion as if for the first time.

Fight with ease. Fable II pioneers a new combat system designed to allow players to truly master hand weapons such as swords and maces, ranged combat weapons such as cross-bows and guns, and an entirely new magic system. These three disciplines, while very accessible, are also amazingly deep, and allow players to mix combat styles and become everything from master swordsman to skilled ranger to evil magic weilder, utilizing a single button on the Xbox 360 controller.

A hero’s best friend. This groundbreaking addition to the game is integral to the theme of unconditional love in Fable II. The canine companion will act as friend, compass and protector. Players must merely feed their pooch and he will love unconditionally, creating a bond that sets up emotion-filled journeys all throughout this magical world.

Experience the world together. For the first time in the Fable” series, gamers can experience the expansive and immersive world of Fable II with friends, utilizing the new and exciting Dynamic Co-op Mode, bringing the long-awaited multiplayer function to the world of Fable II.

Xbox LIVE Arcade mini-games earn major cash. Carbonated Games has partnered with Lionhead Studios Ltd. to bring an unparalleled experience to gamers through Xbox LIVE Arcade. Gamers can start earning in-game currency for the Fable II world later this year, before the game's release to retail, by downloading and playing exclusive mini-games, which will be available for download on Xbox LIVE Arcade and allow gamers to purchase weapons, armor and more for their hero.

Took that from the Fable II site.

The original Fable was my favorite RPG ever made, and I'm even more excited than I was before.

You basically play a hero in the world of Albion, 500 years after the original game took place, wherein a hero destroyed The Jack of Blades, an evil sorcerer/warrior. Your actions define who you are. You can be a holy avenger or a demonic warrior. You can decide to kill or save the citizen. It's all in your hands. Guns are introduced into the story, which I'm meh about, but you get a pet dog! ^^

Can't wait for it. What about you guys?

I decided to look into all of this the past two days. I'm really impressed with the depth that they're adding to the good and evil scheme. The first Fable didn't really have any benefit of being evil over being good, and vice versa, except that you were more popular if you were good.

The back story they're introducing is pretty deep, and I hope that they actually elaborate more on the mythos of Albion.

For a better idea of how all of this weaves together, watch the trailers that have been released so far, they're spectacular.

On a side note, I'm glad that guns were introduced, but the whole dog thing is kind of meh for me...

But... But the dog grows up with you!

And on the main site they have the first two parts of the history of Albion up... Second part just got opened, I liked it a lot.

The biggest thing I'm concerned is the flexibility of the story. Is the storyline going to be the exact same either way you play it? or will there be hundreds of choices, each leading into a different path? I want pure freedom in the main quests before you can call it epic.

That was my biggest concern of Fable. The other was the hero save glitch. Do you suppose it'll still be on there?

I never got a hero save glitch on the XBox version..

And the main story line is not very flexible, I think... In singleplayer it's just set. But, who wants to play single player? Multiplayer is where it's at. You can do almost anything.

The original Fable was my favorite RPG ever made, and I'm even more excited than I was before.

It was ok. It was above average, but it didn't even have different facial options. There was no customization of the character besides hair and tattoos, and also the problem addressed in my previous post.

There are so many games before, during, and after Fable that were much more interactive and flexible. Deus Ex? 3 different endings, if I remember. Oblivion 4: The Elder Scrolls? Well.. there's different races, facial features, different guilds, and I'm fairly sure that there's hundreds of ways to do the main quests. Those are both from during Fable's era.

Don't even get me started comparing Fable to Mass Effect or KOTOR.

But yes, I expect Fable 2 to be quite an accomplishment.

Yeah, I agree that there were a lot of games that were done in the manner of Fable, with even higher amounts of customization, but I have to point out that none of them presented those features in such a great game. I agree that Oblivion had a MASSIVE amount of content that could be seen throughout the game, the same goes for Deus Ex. Oblivion is very similar to Fable, though. Both games offer a linear storyline with incredibly dynamic and detailed characters. I haven't played Deus Ex, so I don't know much about that, but comparing a shooter/rpg to an action/adventure rpg is like comparing apples to pick up trucks. Comparing the story changing elements of Deus Ex and Fable is like comparing an elephant to Flak, no resemblance at all (that is unless Flak is a large grey mammal with a trunk).
I might also add, that before getting frustrated over the linear storyline progression, read the history of Albion, and then tell me what you'd like to do. Really, imo, there are only two paths that seem logical after reading the first two parts of the back story.

Fable was never meant to have a multitude of story changes, it was meant to create a deeper Player-Character connection, not a deeper Player-Environment connection. Fable 2 might try to increase the player's involvement with the world, but from the additions I've seen, Lionhead is going to try to bring the Player-Character connection to an epic level.

Feel free to TL;DR this post XD

Really? You've obviously never played an MMO with me. On the contrary, I am extremely helpful, and I wouldn't ruin someone else's game (unless we were both on scrap characters) for any reason, lol.

Yeah, like Inferno said. It's meant to make a deeper player-character connection. But, I like Fable because of it's storyline too... I think it was amazing. Loved the combat, which I hear they're making better, mor free style.... Oblivion never appealed to me because it was bland...

Fable II is bound to be my favorite game of the year.

I'm not sure if the big thing inferno posted mentions this, but from what I've seen the combat system is going to be a different button for melee, ranged, and will. I think this is a great idea because it'll make it easier to combine different attacks like slashing someone then shooting them in the face. However, I have yet to see anything pertaining to the will system, and I'm curious as to whether we'll only be able to use one spell at a time or if there's some kind of system to letus use many spells without having to use a menu, such as the trigger system they used in Fable 1.

Spore, not really for me...
Diablo 3 maybe, because I'll be playing with one of my friends...
SC2 I'm not getting until they make some decent maps on it. ^.^
Mercs Not really.
Crisis Not really.

It should be, right? :P

Fable's going to be the best hands down from what I've seen. The first one was great, and the second one looks like it's going to correct some of the major flaws of the first one.

Fable is great, but I found it too restricting, it was the same storyline with two choices that didn't change much.

I hope Fable 2 will be a bit more open in that area this time around.

Although what I am really looking for in an RPG is one where you don't get "THREE SEPARATE ENDINGS!", but one where you actually decide your ending in a story that changes as what you do changes. One that won't really limit your choices. Plus, it's not the destination, but the journey.

Well, if that's the way you feel, then Fable is exactly what you're looking for. The end is going to be similar/the same no matter how you play, but the events/your actions are going to be different every time you play.
But, even as cool as a game with a completely changing ending is, it's nearly impossible to create an different ending for how each player plays through a game, that would require a massive number of disks/data/coding, it would be nigh impossible!

That's like asking for a perfect speech to text system, there are so many words, in so many dialects, that it takes probably a decade or more to get a good system together, and that's mostly just collecting dialect and language data...

That would be cool, though.

I never got a chance to play the original Fable (please don't hurt me), but I've heard good things about it. With that said, I can't really pass much judgment on this.

As far as outcomes go, I agree with Des. The outcomes should be completely different, and there should be several. This was my main problem with Mass Effect: regardless of the path you took, paragon or renegade, the ending was inevitably the same (Yeah, you can make Saren kill himself if you're good... ironically... but it's ultimately the same).

You can make him kill himself if you're evil too.

But yes, I get your point. But it's not the end that really matters. It's how you get there that makes a difference. The way you play the story completely changes the meaning of the ending regardless of whether or not the end is actually different. So the ending is different in that sense every time.

So I just heard something about if you attack to the rhythm of the music it makes your attacks stronger. Sounds kinda neat, and it'll make us try to beat the game with more than just button mashing hopefully.

Lol, I hardly ever button mash anyways. I've always found that button mashing leaves me vulnerable to getting stuck in bad places for fighting, so I usually plan out my beginning strategy, mid-battle strategy, and end strategy before fighting a group of enemies.
