...Gas prices? You're worried about gas prices? First of all, gasoline (oil) is not an infinite commodity! We are far too reliant on oil. Even if the value of a US dollar does go down, and gas prices go up (they won't, I don't think), we're at least thinking long-term solutions. And please, name me some 'terrible points' and 'terrible ideas'. Just because they're not Republican doesn't make them bad. In fact, most of the time, it makes them better. ; ) Still, Obama's not perfect. While I think he's going to do some great things for our country's future, there was some real bullshit in the stimulus plan. The Republicans were spot-on with a lot of the problems with that bill; I was not happy to see it pass. And why the fuck are we spending so much on conversion to digital cable from bunny-ear TVs? Yeah, let's spend forty million dollars on the nine people that still have the goddamn things. Gah, politics... I hate them. |

Libertarian, I guess. I don't know if that's the right word for it. I agree with a little bit of both the Democratic and the Republican platforms. However, I also believe, for the most part, that the least government is the best choice. Politics are sadly corrupt most, if not all of the time. If people didn't try to take advantage of their power or the system as a whole, a semi-utopian civilization might actually be possible, as I see it. |

We should go back to the roman system public elected people to the senate can only hold office for a year and are barred from running for re-election the office of dictator (the president) can only be held for six months, they usually get killed before then though ![]() I like the fact that it prevents idiots being re-elected other than that, it's up to the people to make good desicions, sadly that rarely ever happens |

Akira, the word you're looking for is probably liberal. Least government clutter I agree with, less government as a whole I find an illogical idea. Government is the only true form of societal union that humans have in this era. Thus, less government means less of a society. Less of a society means more of a tribal-multi-independents system. The corporations and such would quickly move in to fill that gap, and Bam!, before you know it, you're stuck in a system not much dissimilar to that of Shadowrun (minus the magic and monsters and AIs, of course). See, most people use "government" as a generic word that also stands for the red-tape, the clutter, the control, the oversight, the laws and all the protocol. Take the modern average democratic government, remove court, remove protocol, remove the argumentation process, reduce the amount of representatives (thus augment the pressure on each individual), use more efficient tools and technology, employ real professionals (for instance, have a true and mandatory political education program, so that politicians are real politicians that really know what they're doing and how decisions influence the world), etc., and you've just created something so incredibly superior to what is currently happening that people are throwing flowers at politics and, for the first time since the printing machine, all manage to not shoot each other just because that guy said something bad about them. That's what I think, anyways. That, coupled with a more efficient and better form of government, would create an indisputable utopia. If I get enough capital to get the project started (after which capital would be all but useless), you'll see me in a few years building my own island in the middle of the Atlantic with a bunch of plans and projects towards that very goal. |

No, she said she's a cross between democrat and republican. That's why she made up her own word... I think. I'm with Franker on this one, though. Government is a neccessity that a lot of people take for granted. The less government there is, the more chaos... simply put. Edited by Scorp, Feb 27 2009, 09:26 AM.

| This is what I meant. I don't support the complete abolishment of today's government, but I at least think that it really, really needs to be gutted and reconstructed. Also, in America, politicians need to take the Constitution a lot more seriously. It's not just some document that provides a set of optional guidelines. The United States Constitution is the original document that outlined how government in this country was to be constructed and run. I think it's kind of, you know, important. |

I agree with that 100%. by saying the constitution is a living and breathing document, they have actually killed what it stood for originaly. At least, imo. |
