I HATE when they say something along the lines of "We just made history." All messages like this are completely stupid and amazingly unneeded. Of course we just made history, everything we do makes history. If McCain won, we would have made history, if Nader one, if an unknown write in, Clinton, etc. It doesn't matter who, we would have made history, even the small things in life make history. If we breathe now we make history by not dying and by changing the world or changing someone else's life who may change the world, etc. Any intelligent person knows this. Personally I don't think it's a huge milestone that we have our first black president-elect. If i were black I doubt my opinion would differ, so he has different skin color, whoop-dee-doo. I think that the only true "minority" in this country anymore is the gays, they are the only ones who don't have the same rights as any other american. Just because, until now, a black person hasn't become president doesn't mean they don't have the ability to, as was seen. The same goes for women and other so called minorities. Now, as for Obama's speech on Tuesday night after the tallying and his announced victory, two things struck me: This is the beginning of his speech. Doesn't that seem cocky, to say that because he was the first black man voted president, he is somehow the contemporary embodiment of the founding father's dream? I know that things we wonder today would be out of reach for the founding fathers: abortion issues, gay rights, stem cell research, etc....Not to belittle our founding fathers, but they all lived in a time when slavery was the norm, and I doubt they would have given thought to a black man becoming president. The whole "unalienable rights all men are born with" seemed to be passed up on slaves in that day and age. But were they in today's world, who knows...next point. *Cough* Bullshit. Case-in-point: Rome. That's all I have to say. |

| I keep joking with my friends that now we have a black president there's no racism in the world, and we shouldn't have to do any dumb diversity assignments. |
