I've seen many "Pro" RPers who act very douchy to anyone they meet. I'm asking for your opinion on this. Do you think all communities of RPers are douches? Or perhaps you think your better than all the other RPers out there ... thus making you a douche :D

This is a serious topic O_o

We don't really have any douches here. Or at least we haven't yet. Who knows with the recent influx of members.

It is generally the people that think they are good, but actually suck at rping, that are the douche-bags, pardon my language.

But that doesn't mean that Newer rpers, [n00bs] if you will, can't be arrogant either..

It is probably the... "I think I am much better then you so I will raise my nose up and shun everyone that it's epic shadow gets casted apon"

Kinda thing.

Something like what I thought, Misan.

I think that they just think their better then everyone else (most occurrences with "douche-bag" role players), and can treat them how they like. While in they also think that, they make other people less encouraged to at least try to be better then the "douche-bag" role players.

When new role players try to act like the "douche-bag" role players, it just makes them look incredibly stupid.

I'm.. not exactly sure about who is a douche-bag and who isn't. In my opinion, everyone could be a douche-bag or no one actually is. I mean, from all your explanations of a douche-bag, it seems like if someone found someone who was bad at role-playing. they'd act that way towards them. Though, I suppose there can be people who act like douche-bags to everyone and it's probably just a matter of time before someone shows them up..

Yes...see, I'm afraid your hypothesis may be flawed if my assumption is correct. I assume you collected your data from Bnet? It is, in my experiance, that unless a player on Bnet proves themselves otherwise, it is generally not far off if one assumes them to be some form of "douche-bag" if you will.

By what i ment was that most COMMUNITIES of RPers think of everyone outside of there little "circle" to be inferior and thus should be treated that way.

I'm called a "douche-bag" quite often. Well, for fact that I can't stand "i", "2", "y?" ect, ect. in Role Playing thing-a'-ma-jiggers. I get called all sorts of shit, by people who can't spell their way out... Of, well, anything I role play in. Oh, it burns me up! And, these 'ORPGS', are not Role Playing games in the slightest bit. Ever heard of the GOOD Final Fantasies? Like, the ones without Cloud in them? Yeah, I said it. Cloud sucks, but I digress...

I honestly DO act like a "douche-bag", I guess. I hold my standards FAR higher than, really, anyone on Battle Net, and that's why I went to WoW, then off to a private WoW Role Playing server. You know, the ones that are harder to get into? My typing speed and spelling has improved so much, it's not funny. Yet, I digress... AGAIN.

If people call you a "douche-bag" or something like that, Suck it up, tell them, in a polite way, mind you! To, well, "Fuck off, Pisser" and then leave the game. Go find something else to do, like, bug the hell outta' me when I'm on or something.

Well, I'm a "Pro" RPer, as you put it, and I'm a douchebag.

Funny how that works out.

P.S.: I prefer "Piss off, Fucker."

No, I don't think all communities of RPers are douches. RoR is a community of RPers, and (for the most part... -points to above poster-) we're not douches. Hell, even Flak isn't that bad once you get to know him. His doucheyness might even grow on you! (If his doucheyness starts to grow on you, be sure to quickly pour acid on the infected area as to not allow it to fully manifest)

Do I think I'm better than all the others RPers out there? No; rather, I believe that every roleplayer has his strongsuits and weak points. I have a tendency to make my roleplaying posts short and to the point, rather than well-detailed and long like, say, Flak's or Grunt's.

That's not to say that theirs are better (well, they might be; I'll let you decide), it's simply a different style of writing and thought.

I can easily see where you're coming from, though, Duke. A lot of roleplayers I've come across (particularly on BattleNet, although I wouldn't use that as your primary source of 'etiquette') are real pains-in-the-ass. They seem to walk around with a mostly undeserved sense of superiority.

I think that saying all roleplaying communities are quote-unquote "douchey" is too broad of a generalization to be entirely true, but it seems to me that elitist roleplayers are not an uncommon sight.

My answer is: There's always room for improvement. For everyone. Yes, there are elitists. Most are that way because they are tired of people acting like they're professionals when in reality they can barely put two words together, much less make them into anything coherent and relevant to the RP.

So, this is my hypothesis: All humans, no matter race, gender, age, etc are, as you say, douches; to a degree. Degree varies, however. That is all.

Kaivin, please refrain from 'reviving' dead topics. If it's past a month and no one posted, don't post in it.

Now, now, Fenris... the topic wasn't closed, that's our fault.

I'll allow for Duke to respond if he so wishes, but his words will be exodus. The topic will be closed shortly after.

Actually, necromancy is perfectly fine and even encouraged here, Fenris. If a topic is closed, let it be. If it's just inactive, feel free to go ahead and post in it, especially if you've got something new to bring to it. That was the case here. It saves having redundant topics, and can bring new light to things thought over and done with. It also mixes up the topics and ideas being thrown around and stuff. Overall, there's nothing wrong with it and it's fun.
