It is with great, displeasure that I tell you that the Movie "Watchmen" sucked, as I had been looking forward to it. In my own personal opinion I wish I could get the three hours back I spent watching it, to do something more useful.

If you have seen it, I want to hear what you thought of it.

One word:
Gh3y.

I mean seriously, it was bad enough that they altered the ending, even if only slightly, but c'mon, porn?
Seriously, they took legitimate parts from the comic, where the was some brief nudity or an implid 'they had sex' part, and turned it into legal porn. There was so much nudity in the movie, that it didn't even match the comic anymore, it was no longer, this is how he usually acts, it became more of a 'let's see how many nude shots we can get before it gets rated NC17.'

Horrible movie, it does not live up to the comic at all.

I didn't think it was bad. There was really only one scene that was overly explicit, and even that wasn't too bad. The story wasn't bad either, but I never read the comic so I wouldn't know what the original was like.

It is a shame to call that movie 'The Watchmen', so much so, that it makes me want to kill the director of the movie for even making it. >_>

This sort of behavior is left to the psychotic, dogmatic, fundamentalist believers you see on your TV everyday letting off bombs and killing people in the name of God. Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing.

And thats what you get -- you get my Axe of Capitalism right in your face.

I read th comic beforehand, and I loved. That's my main reason for disliking he movie, it was too unlike what I had hoped for. I had hoped for a good representation of the comic, but it wasn't, so I don't like it. I'm not sure about Missan, but that's my reason.

See, there is a reason to my hatred, Crimson. ^^

I was rooting for that movie. At the time of it's conception, I thought it was going to be awesome.

Sadly, it was "decent." Much less than awesome, though. I mean, I liked the movie... It's just... Bah! I'm still thinking over it.

Also: Misanthrope... How is that a "Spoiler?"

I agree with Flak here. It's not that it was a bad movie, but it just was not the brilliance that the original was.

And honestly, it's kind of foolish to even expect that from a movie-adaptation.

In my opinion, there were only two things that REALLY threw me off for this;

Spoiler: click to toggle
First off, the ending. I mean wtf, it barely, barely made sense, the threat of an imminent alien invasion is a much, much better incentive for the world banding together then a single god-like superhero declaring war on the world. I mean, just bah.

Secondly, the fact that they just HAD to have Dr. Manhatten cause everyone he killed to explode in a huge and gratuitous splatter of gore. It was completely unneccessary. Could have just had him disentigrate people with an explosion of energy, woulda been much cooler and less obligatorily violent.

I mean, really, other then that it was fairly good. Just not, you know, brilliant like the comics were.

I still want to watch the movie but.. you guys.. it's only reasonable if you've read the comic that you'll dislike to movie... I said the same thing when Eragon came out... I was soo excited that I thought the movie was gonna be like the book... but it wasn't... they switched things around to make people want to watch it more than just the people who've read the book.. I mean it's not gonna be the SAME THING, or close... if you want it like you thought it would be then you shoulda directed the movie O.o

I'm sorry if I've bashed you but I think i should've put my opinion in here... seeing as how i'm gonna watch the movie regardless

Oh, God, Lludeain, are you right about that. We should start a whole new topic about the terribly terrible terror that Eragon was.

Anyway. I've heard from multiple people that the movie was good. I think I'll probably see it for myself, just to make sure I'm not missing anything. After all, a lot of people didn't like 'The Spirit', but I did.

I haven't read Eragon, and I thought the movie sucked with a giant 'Phail' stamped right across the front. I'm not saying it was unwatchable, but the story was too horribly anchored by hackneyed plots and characters and uninteresting events that I couldn't really enjoy it. I'm not meaning to bash your opinion, but I don't know many who like it in any sense of the word, and Eragon readers loathe it even more, in my experience. Heaven forbid they make a sequel, I hope it's at least a couple tiers ahead in the game, because it certainly had potential to be good. Maybe not LotR good, but decent nonetheless.

This actually sums it up very well:

"As a Comic book, Watchmen is extraordinary. As a Movie, it's just some action awash with noise."

We can all agree that Watchmen is brilliant.

As a comic book.

Eragon and Twilight seem to be the same in that regard.

Sucky movie. Sucky book. Unbelievably Popular.

I found Eragon an easy read. Somewhat unoriginal in its construction, but overall not badly written. I couldn't bring myself to read Eldest, though, so I guess it wasn't truely that great. The movie destroyed any love I had for the series, unfortunately.

Did anybody see what Stephen King said about Stephanie Meyers (the author of Twilight)? If not, try to find the article. Basically, he said, "You suck at writing. Your book is only popular because of the innocent sexuality that appeals to teens and pre-teens."

I found it amusing.

But gah, we're getting off topic. I'm going to see 'The Watchmen' this weekend (I haven't read the comic) and will give my review of it then.

Overall though I was disappointed in the story, but being a violent person, I enjoyed the twisted parts of the movie..

It was just the Male Nudity that dropped it a few more pegs imo.
