Well I've been thinking about writing this for a while, but haven't ever gotten around to it. So, without further ado, I present to you the story of how the infamous killer, Ovesi Eng'kal, came to be. "Honey. Hurry or you'll be late for your first day of school." The cheery call fluttered up the staircase to reach the ears of a small, five year old boy. He looked into the bathroom mirror, trying to calm his nerves. His own, emerald green eyes stared back at him, only serving to unsettle him more. He had hardly slept from the anticipation, and it showed horribly. His hair was atrociously messy, and dark circles resided under his eyes. The boy ran his fingers through his hair in a vain attempt to quell its rebellion then hurried down the stairs to meet his mother. The boy beamed at his mother as he descended the last step. The woman returned the gesture with her own brilliant smile. She was truly a beautiful example of a Kunari woman. Her black hair hung all the way down to her waist, and shined from the countless moments spent keeping it perfectly manicured. She led her son quickly to the family car, hoping that she could make it to the school fast enough to keep her son from being late. The two arrived right on time, and the two happily waved goodbye to each other as the mother pulled away. The new student began his journey into the school, hoping his disheveled appearance would go unnoticed... But children are truly viscous creatures, and it was not long before a girl his age who was headed the same way saw the opportunity to poke fun at the new kid. "HEY! YOU!" she called after him. The young Kunari stopped and turned to face the girl as she ran up to him. At this point, a small crowd of children had gathered to see the commotion. "Oh, jeez. Look at you." she said, disgust painted across her face, "You're even worse close up. Are you some kind of zombie or something?" The girl recoiled in mock fear. "Please don't eat my brains!" The crowd of children burst into laughter at the boy's expense. The boy's worst fears had been realized in a single instant. Slowly, moisture began to build in his eyes. He tried to stop it. Tried as hard as he could. But there was no helping it. Soon, great streams were pouring from his eyes. "Aw, you gonna cry now?" The girl continued. "You're just a big cry baby aren't you? Why don't you run home to your mommy?" Once again the crowd erupted with hysterical laughter, only adding to the boy's torment. His saving grace was the school bell, which alerted the students that class would begin soon. The crowd dispersed, and the boy was left alone with his tears. Somehow, the boy worked up the courage to get to class, but the rest of the day, his mind was far away from the happenings in the school. All through class, he simply stared blankly at the wall, deep in thought. It was times like this that the child sought comfort inside his mind, where the proddings of the other students could never reach him. The boy sat under the familiar, giant oak tree that marked the center of his special place. Bird songs traveled on a warm, gentle breeze that spread the sweet scent of flowers into the boy's nose. It was then that the boy noticed the door. Had it always been there? It was a rather strange place for a door. It would be very strange not to notice such a thing previously. The large, ugly door stuck straight out of the ground, no wall attached to it. The boy peered curiously at the door, especially the strange, barred window that sat in the middle of it. As the boy stared, two blood red eyes became visible beyond the window. Let me out. The voice seemed to permeate every inch of the area, and even the birds went silent as it spoke, but somehow it sounded just as familiar as the rest of this place. "W-what?" The boy timidly replied. Let me out, and you will never feel sadness again. The boy rubbed the ground with his foot as he thought hard about the voice's proposal. He liked the idea of never being sad again, but he got a bad feeling from the voice. Something... wasn't right about it. "I-I don't think I should..." Fool. You know things will only get worse from here. Why not let me deal with it? "You're wrong," the boy replied sheepishly, "Today was... just a bad day. I'm sure everything will be better tomorrow." The voice laughed as if it was amused. Alright then, but it will only be a matter of time before you give in. "Ovesi... Ovesi... OVESI!" The sound of his own name being shouted shook the boy from his inner sanctuary. He was surprised to see that he had gone through the whole school day without noticing it, and now sat beside his mother once more. "So how was your first day of school?" His mother cheerily asked. "It was fine..." came the meek reply. "Well that's wonderful, honey. I'm glad you had a good day." The mother beamed at her son and he managed to give a meek smile. He was still trying to convince himself that things would be better the next day. ------------------------------------------- But things didn't get better. A whole year passed, each day filled with the various torments of the same girl that had plagued him the first day. It was a simple childish thing. Something that probably wouldn't have affected Ovesi so much if it weren't for that darkness residing deep inside him. In the end, it was that darkness that was causing problems. As the year went by, he began hearing the voice more and more. It became ever more forceful in its offers of eternal happiness. He even began seeing things at times. A flash of those horrible eyes, peering at him from some dark corner. But then they would be gone again, and laughter would fill his head. Slowly but surely, the environment inside Ovesi's inner sanctuary began to change. The once clear blue sky was now grey with clouds. Song birds could no longer be heard, and the grass had all but withered completely. Most frighteningly to Ovesi, the leaves of the oak tree had begun to fall. Nearly all of them had withered into crunchy brown masses and fallen to the ground. The fateful evening when the last leaf fell would be the last evening the young Ovesi would see. It was in his sleep, the only time he could not escape the confines of his own mind, that he met with his face. The voice was laughing particularly hard at the boy this night. You really thought it would get better didn't you? Come on. Let me out and I can fix everything for you. The boy, his mind worn from a year of the voice's incessant torment, said not a word. His eyes stared at the ground as he slowly approached the massive door. As usual, the eyes watched over him as he approached. They watched as his hand slowly rose to touch the knob of the door. They watched, as the boy's had rotated ever so slowly... As soon as the latch clicked, the door opened with a horrible creak. Complete, empty blackness was all that was visible beyond the door. The boy squinted in an effort to see the man behind the voice that had tormented him for so long. A dull squish resonated throughout the sanctuary as an arm erupted from the darkness, piercing the young Ovesi through the chest. The boy's eyes widened in shock as the person connected to the arm slowly emerged from the darkness. It was... him. Completely identical except for those malicious red eyes. Blood spurted from the gaping hole in the boy's chest as the other Ovesi removed his hand from it. "That's what you get for keeping me cooped up in there so long," he taunted as the boy breathed his last few breaths. ---------------------------------- Ovesi's blood red eyes shot open for the first time. The boy sat up in his bed, and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He made a quick trip to the kitchen, and slid a large kitchen knife out of its holder on the counter top. The mother, who had heard the boy wake up, entered the kitchen to see what was going on. "What's the matter honey? Can't sleep?" "Something like that..." He muttered as a wicked smile crossed his face. ------------------------------------- The police arrived on the scene about an hour later due to a report of screams coming from the house. When they arrived, what they saw horrified them beyond belief. To say Mr. and Mrs. Eng'kal had been killed would be an understatement. What was left of the husband and wife had to be carried out in multiple body bags, and the gore that covered the inside of the house made it nigh impossible to enter without getting blood on yourself. The most disturbing thing about the crime scene was the tiny set of bloody footprints that led away from the house. The footprints led all the way to the shuttle station, and eventually to a cargo bay loading area. Of course, by the time the police had followed the trail, the ship was long gone, taking its deadly cargo off to a faraway world. In the end, the police investigation turned up completely blank. They had a very good idea who had committed the murders, of course, but so many ships went in and out of the port that it was nearly impossible to know which one the boy had been on. The case file of Ovesi Eng'kal was stored neatly in a cold case filing cabinet, not to see the light of day for several more years. |

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but... holy shit. XD I rather liked the insight, though. It makes you think that the devil crawled up from Hell and completely took over near the end. |
