I think that steroid use is getting out of hand. All the players now are twice as bigger as you would see a guy entering the sport 50 years earlier. These guys aren't natural atheletes, they're superficial. They use supplements to get better which isn't the right thing to do. Even in the olympics when you see 100 m dash and other events, you can't get that kind of form without taking drugs. its just pathetic |

The IAAF and the IOC have by far THE BEST drug policy in all the sporting world. First time offense is a one year ban. Second time offense is a lifetime ban. 99% of athletes in the sport of athletics are clean. Under the sanctions of the WADA, they've taken huge strides to clean up the sport. The only problems that usually arise are with American track and field athletes, just because the USADA tries to cover everything. Then again, it was only really 5 or 6 US athletes that had connections to BALCO It's sports like baseball where they have unbelievably crappy policies where steroids are a problem. Baseball is one of the few proffesional sports where taking steroids is actually a huge advantage. Baseball's current system is a complete joke. For a first time offense you get a 10 day (not a 10 game -a ten "day") suspension. Prior to this year, they didn't even have a system, and they still don't really do much testing this year. It's pathetic. Baseball has a ton of problems. This current scandal is just making all sports look bad and giving all other sports and athletes a bad name. Baseball is really the only sport with a steroid problem. The media however has chosen to blow this up (which is a good thing in this case) to make other sports question their policies and drug use in their games, just beacuse of the ignorance of MLB. While steriods would serve as a benifit to football players, both the NFL and CFL have very strict policies and random drug testing. In the NBA, steroids would do more harm then good to basketball player. Steroids inhibit muscle endurance, flexiblity and movement. Something basketball players really need. In the NHL, steroids won't really do much benifit either. In terms of endurance, they're just going to harm you more than they'll help you. |

I think the biggest steroid problem is in wrestling but I guess its safe to say that its "OK" to do steroids in that sport but I believe there should be no exception |

The "Wrestling" that I think you're speaking of isn't really a professional sport. (I don't want to get into a big debate on whether it's a sport or not, but let's just agree that you can't really compare it on the same level as Olympic sports, baseball, the NFL, NBA or the NHL) |

Well olympic wrestling is a sport and it works out your entire body! I was on the school wrestling team and in 3 minutes of wrestilng, your muscles are already tired. It's a great work out and steroid problem is huge in wrestling but it's not that great because it makes you slower. Steroids have a lot of problems |

I'm well aware Olympic wrestling is a sport. It's a great sport. I figured nintendrone was refering to "TV Wrestling", WWF or whatever it's called. |

WWF Is garbage. I can't stand people who actually watch that. The wrestlers work out and take steroids. If the use of steroids was banned then maybe it would be a better sport but then again it's just fixed and entertainment |

steriods in pro wrestling everyone does it. but in olimpic wrestling or combat sports steriods come with many adv and dis adv. adv- more strength dis adv- you get very tired more quickly. it depends what kind of sport your in. for baseball i can see how steriods would be an adv. beacsue you only run for short bursts. |

Actually, a lot of athletes take steroids not for performance, but because steroids help heal injuries faster. Also, not all supplements are manufactured. A lot of them such as creatine, whey protein, so protein and etc are naturally found in milk, steak, and even humans. It's just isolated and put into a form in which athletes can take it, without having to eat steak or drink milk. The stuff that should be outlawed is the kind of stuff that is purely manufactured and jus a mix of chemicals. |

that may be true but athletes still have access to steroids. Sure there are negative side effects but it doies increase in your performance. THat's the solely reason to take it. It increases your chance of winning. I guess quite a bit of athletes may be taking it but it's secretive. But like canucksfan said the IOC is intelligent people and they know what they're doing |
