Okay I checked, and I found no existing topic on this. Should women serve in our military? Should they serve in combat capacities? Like today, women are given the chance to choose any career they desire for themselves. No civil career, under gender discrimination legislation is closed to them. Yet in the military, while they are allowed to serve, they are not yet allowed to serve in combat capacities. While they serve, they seem to apparently grudgingly be accepted by many males. The US Army's experience, where this has been taken far further than in the Australian Army, women are subjected to considerable harassement and even apparently rape is tolerated in many cases, to try and deter them and "keep them in their place". To take it a step further, should they be allowed to serve in some non-contact, combat roles, such as fighter or helicopter pilots or onboad ships? |

what a stereotypical view of how women should be. Times are changing and women should have the right to do what they want. |

stereotypical as that may be I think women shouldn't be doing things that are meant for man. They shouldn't put their bodies on the line in War while men are more suited to do so. Women are more meant for caring for their children where as men arent that good at doing that |

Of course they should be allowed. Provided that they take the exact same test as the guys and the best people get the job. If they want to be pilots then they can be, there's no issue with that. I think most people's reservations on the subject come when they discover that women are being given special treatment, such as hiking with less weight etc. I don't know if thats true or not, to the same token I'm fairly sure that in some regards women have it harder because of all the stick they'd get from the macho guys? Who knows. The problem is this, in the situation like the military your life can be placed in someone elses hands and you want to make sure that that person is completley compitant. I'll paint a picture for you. If the guy next to you is shot and a retreat is called. It's up to you to drag them or carry them out. I would assume that more guys would be capable of doing that then gals. |

thats pretty mean, no offence. But women should be allowed to join military, its their choice, so we shouldn;'t say that they cant or they shouldn't be allowed because, what if men stoped joining the military? If we banned women, we would lose wars if there was a shortage of war, What I am saying is that both man and women are important to military |

I think if my goals in life were to be in the Army, then yes, but that aint my goal in sucess, i dont wanna be in the Army. And i think girls should be those in the back waiting for reinforcment, and only women WITH child allready can be in battle, cause it will make the population less if 50% of the women died in the battle. |

Not unless they can put up with as much as men....Most of the time I'd say no because women simply aren't built to physically withstand the rigours that men can.... |
