Incase you've been living under a rock the Republicans want to drill for oil in a National Park and the Democrats say no. Basically it will only decrease oil prices by a penny over the next 20 years and will likely destroy the national park and the tons of animal species that live there. I think the Republicans slowly are killing our country. |

Its a poor idea as things now stand. If a major investment is made into building new refineries which can process heavy (as opposed to light) crude oil then it might be worth drilling in Alaska, but until we dump at least several billion into these refineries its a poor proposition. |

Although I'm a Canadian conservative, I actually don't support your American president nor do I support drilling for oil in Alaska. I break away from the "assumed" conservative mold of not caring for the environment. I believe in both the Kyoto Accord and animals' rights. |

I think they should drill exploratory wells at least. I believe the area in question is so small that the rest of the national wildlife reserve will be unaffected. Yes, I realize it would require new roads and infrastructure there, and that most of the oil would go to Japan and the Pacific Rim. I believe the Republicans are being demonized by propaganda on this issue. |

In case you've been living under a rock, the area they want to drill in is tundra-- which is a rocky, treeless plain with minimal wildlife and plant life-- and there's 90 million acres of it. The drilling would only use 2000 acres at the most. It wouldn't dent up the surface because of modern technology, they can drill down, and then sideways. The only animals in any sticky situation are the caribou, which migrate through, and possibly some migratory birds. Putting a drilling site and a pipeline in ANWR would not "destroy the tons of animal species that live there." |

I'm all for it assuming... It increases the dividend we get up here by a few thousand dollars and they only drill in that ****y part of Alaska like they say they want to. Trust me, drilling on the ****ing tundra isn't going to kill a bunch of animals off, all that will happen is some caribou will have to change their migration route a bit. |
