i think it's great jus as long as it doesn't get outta hand. if ppl oppose it, then don't bother urself about it, cuz there are ppl that support it and wud find it very useful. jus cuz they don't want it doesn't mean the evry1 has 2 share the same. i think the main group that oppose it tend 2 be religious ppl.

I'm not really sure, but I think that it would be benificial. The issue of Science Vs. Religion comes in to this, so I dont have much of an opinion here

I personally agree with stem cell research; however, I think the notion of making people live forever is unrealistic and would ultimately be detrimental to the world and lead to a greater usage of resources the planet is already lacking. Death is unforunately necessary in order to control the population, although it is in many cases tragic and difficult to deal with, it is both inevitable and necessary. The world's population is increasing at an exponential rate and we are already destroying the planet at a faster rate than it can be repaired, not to mention exhausting vital resources that are finite. While the topic will always be controversial, there are many great uses for stem cell research. It suggests great possibilities for the future, just as long as it is used and conducted responsibly.

stems cells are such a controversial topic in full because people have no clue what a stem cell is.

Let me explain what a stem cell is. A stem cell is a cell that has not undergone duplication. The lack of a duplication means that it's DNA, the genetic blue print to protein creation, has not been altered.

Think of DNA as a really big, ginormous, switch board. A switchboard with millions of little switches. Pressing a switch means the cell will become something. Now a stem cell is the begining the first step. No switches has been flipped yet. Which is the most important part of a stem cell.

After a cell has gone through a duplication cycle, it is predetermined that the cell now knows what it is that it has to do.

We do not have the technology that gives us the capability to take an advanced cell and reset it's DNA to become a stem cell.

We cannot reset the switch board.

By harvesting stem cells through rejected fetuses (fetuses that come out of miscarriages) we can figure out how stem cells work.

Imagine what it could mean.

Imagine a world where no one has to die.

Growing old will be a thing of the past. Imagine losing a leg. Going to the hospital getting an injection and growing a new one in a few weeks. Starfish already have this ability why can't we?

I don't have to be scared about being 70 and not being able to take a decent piss.

It's not a matter of playing God. It's about using the tools that God gave us to fulfill our wildest dreams. I figure the world is a sandbox, and God put his/her children down to play in it.

Unborn children can wait. They'll just get back on line to start life. I most have waited 10-12 years before I was born. Imagine a better world for our children.

People look at the small things. They look at the world as if it was a TV.... people wake up and see the world as it really is..... It's HD baby. we're all cable ready. Just have to plug in.

First of all Jinzo.....STEM CELLS ARE NOT DNA!!! Stems cells are unaltered cells, that have not ceen changed to anything new...For our purposes we shall say special "signals" are sent to stem cells and theses "signals" allow the stem cell to become a specific cell, such as a muscle cell. What makes stem cells so very important is thet if we can discover the right "signals" and are able to reproduce them, then we create new organs, arms, tissue; basically anything in the body.
Personally, I agree with stem cell research and anyone who is foolish, and for that matter ignorant enough, to discredit the value of stem cells can drop dead for all I care. Let's think about it though, if you were to recreate say the brain cells, well then chances are that you would lose a great deal, if not all of your memories, and to that effect people would not technically live forever as the same person, they would become someone new for every century or so.
One of the main ideas behind stem cell research is to be able to help people in need, for example, someone who has lost a leg, or someone who just had cancer and needs a kidney or a heart. Yes, the life span of people may rise, but it is highly unlikely that stem cells will be used to make peopele virtually unkillable.

all cells are made from stem cells...think of cells being a plant....now each and every plant hsa the same stem, but in order to make the plants different dflowers and leaves are added. In that way stem cells are like the building block/ foundation of cells...
