I make it a goal not to end up like other English majors and get so snobbish that I refuse to read anything published in the past century. So I try to read a book or two by some of the more contemporary authors to keep up with the times and remain level-headed. Love Crichton, meh on Brown.

ANYWAY

I'm looking to read something or another by Clancy. I've heard his books can get bogged down in technical discussion, which I'm not a fan of, but can get past. I was wondering what book you'd recommend to a newbie to the Clancy world. Chances are I'll never read another book by the man, so help me find a good'un.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Clear and Present Danger. I figure if it got made into a movie it's got to appeal to a casual fan on some level. I would do Patriot Games, but I already saw that movie so it's kinda spoiled for me. Same with Sum of All Fears. I guess I could do Hunt for Red October, but for some reason that one's never appealed that much to me. If you recommend it though, I'll believe you.

So, what do you think?
