Sorry if this is old, but it appears that Apple supports Blu-Ray, and is on the board of directors for the Blu-ray Disc Association!
You can expect Blu-Ray players in future Macs, which would spread Blu-Ray even more!
And with Macs taking off as a very decent platform, you can expect a ton of Blu-Ray players in peoples' homes, in addition to what the PS3 will accomplish.

"Blu-ray is supported by consumer electronics vendors Sony and Panasonic as well as PC vendors Dell and Apple."

So on the slim chance that Blu-Ray doesn't make it, Sony isn't in it by itself and won't suffer the full loss!

Meaning, Sony won't be going under on the tiny insignificant chance that Blu-Ray fails.

Good work, Sony.
It's nice to see that you care about our consumers.

And no I'm not Meowmixmaster.

Even I dont want a blu ray player, not yet.

When PS3 comes out the blu ray will be in it and it'll be significantly cheaper

blu ray techincally has more space than hd dvd but blu ray uses uncompressed audio and video while hd dvd uses the same compressed format as dvd

therefore data on blu ray takes up more storage space than an hd dvd can hold making blu ray discs in the long run not able to hold as more as hd dvd

so we'll be seeing a lot more extras and bonus content on hd dvds
