McDonald's offering Nintendo Happy Meals Fast-food chain's latest kid's combo promotion includes free Mario, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong toys. By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot Posted Sep 1, 2006 5:10 pm MT With Nintendo's Wii promising to put the "active" back in "interactive entertainment," it's only fitting that the publisher's marketing tie-ins leading up to the console launch should have a similar focus. So for fast-food chain McDonald's current Nintendo-themed promotion, the Big Mac monger is offering one of six freebie "active toys" with its Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals, each one featuring Mario, Donkey Kong, or Yoshi. The toys include a Mario-shaped ball for playing catch, a flying disc, an inflatable Mario Power Tennis mallet with ball, and more. The emphasis on activity is part of the fast-food chain's ongoing effort to reform its long-suffering public image when it comes to healthy eating. According to the company, "The 'Take the Mario Challenge' Happy Meal and Mighty Kids Meal event is part of McDonald's ongoing commitment to helping guests better understand the keys to living balanced, active lives. This initiative...underscores the importance of eating right and staying active, and includes a wide variety of programming for guests of all ages." The Nintendo toys will be available at participating McDonald's locations until September 21, or while supplies last. This is not the first Nintendo-McDonald's cross-promotion, as many of the chain's restaurants are Wi-Fi hotspots for Nintendo DS online play. Article at www.gamespot.com :D |

I remember when Taco Bell had a deal with Nintendo. They offered toys in Kids Meal and even had a contest giving away Nintendo 64's. I always won free soft tacos though. And as much as McDonalds wants to lose the public image, it's not really going to work. McDonalds will never substitute for a healthy meal that one can get from buying and cooking foods purchased from a store. |

for the past 3 years mcdonalds has been not only trying to lose their image as unhealthy fast ood but theyve been trying to lose their image as being geared towards kids if many of u have noticed mcdonalds commercials r now geared towards older youth and adults more so than kids so obviously while thisnintendo deal is good news for them from a mcdonald standpoint its the worst thing that they couldve done |
