Depends on the situation, but for the most part Nay. In some situations, I think it is needed, or would indeed help a school; but most of the time is not needed and is enforced only to stifle freedom of expression either out of fear or misunderstanding, or because of one bad person or group of people that don't represent the majority. Yes, I understand that was a very long sentance, however, I believe it was grammatically correct. I bring this up as my school is looking to go to uniforms: http://www.heraldbulletin.com/homenews/loc..._329200557.html Now, it wouldn't affect me in any way as Ieave next year [I'm a graduating Senior], but I think there are more fundamental problems in the Administartion that need to be dealt with before Uniforms are brought up. [from another post of mine on another board, speaking of said "Administrative problems"] Our school system is ran by a bunch of suits trying to cheap out of giving our area's kids a good education. Our teacher's are among some of the highest paid in the state, yet we have among the 10 lowest GQE/Standardized testing scores in the state. [About 40% pass the GQE/ISTEP] So to fix this problem... they build new "attractive" school buildings? That doesn't make sense... Oh wait... yes it does, because the old Superintendent got to become the head of the committee that over sees the building of those schools, and makes an extra $124,000 a year plus what he made for being Superintendent [which is over 100k also]... I say old Superintendent because he retired from that job over the summer. Now, he doesn't even have to show up to any meetings as the buildings are being finished, and is still making the 124 grand for being head. What else are they doing? To cut down on costs, they have taken away a period in every grade, and eliminated teachers. They have taken away needed computer/technology teachers, and many science teachers. Two areas, where they should be hiring MORE teachers. What have they done about hiring teachers at any rate? They hire fresh out of school teachers to a one-year contract, and fire them after the one year, and bring in new fresh out of school teachers... Why? Because they don't have to pay them as much. To bad those teachers don't have the experience to correctly teach the children, and especially deal with the disciplinary problems in our school. Yeah, Uniforms are the LEAST of our worries. I do think that at some point, Uniforms might need to be implimented [to take away the poor/rich seperation our school system has to deal with], but that at this point in time it needs to take a back seat to problems inside the school system. |

Personally, I wouldn't care. I don't pride over the way I dress. I don't feel like I'm that big of an individual because I choose what I wear. Our schools doesn't need them and it would be a waste of money and time for the community to argue over. So for the most part I say nay, even though I could care less if I'm required to wear something. |

having a uniform ruins our choice of freedom. If that's violated then why bother living in a country that restricts are way of life. So glad most schools are public. |

That's why i like most public schools. They hardly have school uniforms. I mean, private schools are okay to have them, but man! It would suck if I had to wear a skirt and crap like that. I hate the idea of uniforms so much. It's like we are in the army or something if we don't have the freedom to wear what we feel comfortable in. |
