When you pay $300 or $400 for a videogame system, you'd like to think that, at the very least, it will work. Apparently Microsoft, however, does not believe this is a necessity for its Xbox 360 console. It's both insane and, at this point, really goddamned ridiculous. I'm not exaggerating when I state that 90 percent of the people I know have returned at least one broken Xbox 360. Many of my co-workers and friends have returned them multiple times. Today, I picked up the final version of Lost Planet and was all set to play through some of it tonight, but wouldn't you know it? Yep -- I turned on my system and got an error message. Wincing, I turned it off and on again and sure enough the error message returned. A blinking red light on the face of the console complemented this message. No way. Not again. This simply could not be happening. Not with a brand new system. But after I tried resetting six more times, unplugging the console and letting it set, removing the hard drive and video cables, and some voodoo magic for good measure, there was no denying it: yet another broken Xbox 360. What I find most offensive is that -- had I not bought a warranty with a retailer -- I would actually have to pay for shipping to send this stupid, broken unit back to Microsoft for repair or replacement. When this mess first started so many months ago, Microsoft mailed me a box with return postage paid. However, I can only guess that after hundreds of thousands of people called for replacement systems, the giant realized that it would be too costly to keep doing that. Meanwhile, by the way, I've got three Wiis in my house and I haven't encountered a single issue. I've got a PS3 in my living room and it's performed flawlessly. Microsoft, you really, truly ****. http://blogs.ign.com/Matt-IGN/2007/01/19/44024/ Wow just Wow |

However also considering the fact that Matt is not biased and does a lot of criticism of Nintendo suggests that he isn't someone who would be making up a story about his 360's getting replaced. |
