The original Ipod, the Ipod mini, and now the ipod video. Whores when it comes to breaking down.

The Ipod nano and shuffle. Immune to such effects (cept physical damage of course)

Why?

The first 3 named have built in them a physical mini hard drive that spins. Heres a fact: When you lift or move a laptop when it is on, the spinning hard drive inside moves around too, scratching itself on the casing therefore becoming damaged.

Ipods are no exception...when you move them around the hard drive within gets damaged. This true for ANY music device with memory above 10gb including Creatives. The thing is no one ever buys creatives above 6gb.

The nano, shuffle and creatives up to 6gb use internal flash memory. So there is nothing physically moving within it to become damaged. Therefore they are immune to this problem.

So anyone who says Ipods are garbage and creatives are better are:

1) Referring to a common piece of technogolgy as garbage
2) Somehow like to compare buying a 30gb ipod to a 4gb creative. Cuz think about it, NO ONE buys a 20 gb creative.

Yeah, some guy told my supervisor he thinks Ipods are garbage and them my sup pulled this info out of his ass and then the guy bought a nano. Yay

It's true.
Ipod Nano's and Shuffle's use flash memories so it's impossible for it to get a failure unless any major program that was on the ipod is deleted or theres a screen error (lighting is out , dead pixel) but those are very rare.

The main problem with Ipod's is with the bigger ones (The mini, normal and the video) just because they have harddrives in comparison to flash memory in which the Nano and Shuffle have. Guylebrown referred the Ipod to a laptop in the sense that they are both portable electronics. The parts shake if you move the products around a lot. Laptop defects are usually found within the system from a harddrive malfunction or defect. That's within the first year of purchase.

The same thing is applied to an Ipod. Ipod defects are not from poor quality but from the way consumers use it. If you're constantly moving your ipod (exercising, running, or a lot of movement) the better chance there is of the Ipod not working.

Same thing applies to any MP3 player that is over 10 gigabytes. A Creative Zen which is 20gig has the same durability as an Ipod that is 20gig. However less people own Creative while more people own Ipod's. Generally speaking, the more people who have Ipod's there are more people who exercise using their Ipod's as compared to those who have Creative's.

So both the Ipod and Creative (harddrives) will have similar durability. However comparing a Flash to a harddrive will spur different arguments but in this case it seems irrelevant since both Ipod and Creative offer both Flash and Harddrive.

Really if you were to go with a MP3 player then it really boils down to price.
Sound quality is very similar and if there is a difference it's very vague. Using that as an argument to make one better then the other is foolish and unworthy.

Screen Quality though is a good thing to consider if u want video. That makes a difference.

blaz3 a heat

When my first Ipod broke it was the exact same reason that Guylebrown and Shaheer told me. It was a video and I took it with me for jogging.

Now I use a nano and I dont get that problem.

Fly away...

I have a 4th gen, 20GB iPod... it works fine. What's the deal?

Actually, all my friends who have iPods have no problems with them failing.

i think the problem with that breaking it doesnot exactly concern the harddrive, is more of the actual ipod casing that is breaking there due to poor use or some sort of damage caused by unknown things
