Despite how the Wii shows no true signs of slowing down, Microsoft is beginning to say the same stuff Sony said about how the Wii would lead people to purchasing their systems.

Just like how the DS got all those so-called "non-gamers" buying PSPs...

I would point out the idiocy of thinking these 90-year olds playing Wii Sports in nursing homes are going to eventually start playing Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Halo, but I'm sure most of us have already considered that.

What say you?

You know, it doesn't matter whoever says it. I think the Wii is in some way a gateway console. I talked with a gentlemen who came and stated his family was a Wii-family and it was the first system any one of them owned. He also stated how interested he was really looking forward to getting either a 360 or PS3.

I've seen other people too that always are wondering whether to get a 360 or PS3. And more interestingly, most of these people aren't worried about cost. It's more about the games and other capabilities of the system.

yeah and so far the wii only has a couple of games thats like wow people r going to play those games and get bored and say ok what else do they have to offer then they will turn to ps3 or 360 like wow look at how real these graphics look i didnt know games could look like this a plus the massive online capabilities on the other systems compared to the couple on the wii.

(I mean really what does nintendo have to offer after brawls release) so everyone will soon flock to other consoles

Kind of a sad thing to hear, especially me being a Nintendo-fan (not a die-hard fan though). Playing the 360, it seems to go along with the internet age. This systems popularity brings people together via online. And with many WASD games (as I call it due to control settings), I must ponder for what is to come for gaming in the year of 2008.

What got me thinking is the next-generation of console gaming, not that it's really relevant to this topic, but since 360's speeding ahead in their current-gen, the Wii's just coming along behind the 360 whilst the PS3 is sadly failing.

I do agree with the Wii bringing in a new gamers. In fact, because it's appealing to a different market, those new gamers are at a greater susceptibality to trying out newer consoles and different variety/genres of gaming.

So yes, I agree with the topic title.

Either way, this still helps out the Wii since they are the ones who are profiteering off of all of this.

Remember this though; a lot of wii games for new gamers have easy learning curves. A lot of games on the PS3/360 require some steep learning curve that takes time to master. So newer gamers might be turned off from this

Your absolutely right. But I also agree that this doesn't hurt Nintendo at all. They are in a better position (both financially and in sales) to let a few of its gamers to trickle to Sony and Microsoft. Most gamers nowadays have multiconsoles unlike last gen or the gen before. The standard of living has increased and there are a lot of people who have Wii/PS3 or Wii/360. But you don't see gamers with a 360/PS3 combo.

OMG NINTENDO J00 SMART KEWKIES

Well I just had a thought that maybe Nintendo is just using the simple target of families and casual gamers to make tons of cash and actually get people involved into gaming

I am guessing their next console will have graphics and raw power that rivals it's competitors.

And all those families they made friends with with the wii will hop on board, seeing as they were only casual gamers before they'll say "Hey there is a new wii coming out! We should go get it!!"

So is the wii just a gateway, not to the 360, but to the world of gaming, and into Nintendo's hands O_o
