The first day sales of Metroid Prime 3 was only 20 000 units... Throw in the fact that SSBB only sold 67 000 units this week (1.358 million) and Wii fit (which is a non game) sold 64 000 units (1.610) million But what has happened to Japan lately? It doesn't seem the same anymore : ( Gamers no longer like AAA games like MP3 and No More Heroes (that truly bombed in japan) And the same thing with wrestling down there as well. The Japanese love their Puro Wrestling and now the biggest dojos like New Japan Wrestling (where Brock Lesnar went after he left the WWe... also Goldberg briefly appeared on it) are now struggling financially. |

Your absolutely right. It really does look like that the Japanese gamers are more interested in non games then traditional games that western gamers are used to. It's still disappinting that Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda: TP only accounted for less then 2 million units each in Japan where as games like Nintendogs have collectively sold around 4.5 million units for each game! That's quite a shame :( And the fact that Wii play has around 9.3 million but a game like super Mario galaxy is only at 5.3 million units (world wide) is bewildering. At least statistically in sales numbers its showing that western gamers are showing more interest in genres aside from FPS games which is a great achievment. |

Oh, and when it comes down to wrestling, i'll agree with you as well. Japan used to be hooked on pro wrestling and companies like NJPW would consistenly sell out. Wrestlers like Antonio Inoki, Tiger Mask, Jumbo Tsuruta were literally icons in the country. Ric Flair vs Antonio Inoki still hold the record for a wrestling event with over 190 000 people in Attendance in South Korea! But it's a shame (if what your saying is true) that NJPW is struggling financially. That's probably true since they had to get rid of Tomko for cut backs. I guess the Japanese lost interest in the sport they truly loved. Wrestling in Japan is like Soccer in Europe, hockey in Canada and football in America. When Kobashi and Misawa leave NOAH then the future for Japanese Puro Wrestling looks really iffy. |

The fact that Japan didn't care about No More Heroes is a good enough indication that something is wrong down there. |

People go on with the times and the trends. As for wrestling, everyone thought it was real in the 70's and 80's and now UFC is gaining a lot of popularity in the states where it's not really well received in Japan. Puro-Wrestling will still be the #1 sport in Japan but it's slowly dying down unless another huge star is made. |

No more heroes bombed in Japan. How could a game about learning wrestling moves in an anime based storyline be bad? |

The Japanese take their sports seriously. Don't be surprised, because they follow every sport and league in their country. Have you seen the J-league for Soccer? The top teams consistently sell out their stadiums which hold around 30 000 people. Uwara reds, FC Tokyo, and many more can go toe to toe with the top clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona. Not only that, but they follow north american sports as well. They have articles of whats happening in the NHL and NBA and there are some fans in the country. But as for wrestling, yes it's kinda dwindled down a little bit. But most of the people going to the events still think its real which is why wrestling still has its flair in Japan. NOAH still manages to get around 20 000+ people and same with som shows in NJPW. The problem is that there is way too many wrestling leagues in Japan that are quite popular. Unlike the States which only has WWE, TNA and to th hardcore, ROH; Japan has AJPW, NJPW, DG, NOAH, ZERO-1 and a lot of small promotions. |
