Looks like a few companies are jumping on the bandwagon and utilizing this feature for upcoming installments on Consoles like the Wii and the DS. It's already successful in MMORPG's like World of Warcraft (which has a current active subscription base of 10 million users) And the monthly fee is $14.95 a month! DLC is somewhat different but still follows under the same premise; meaning you pay for content to utilize it in the game itself. What I mean is that in games like Rockband, you pay for the song to play the song or in the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 2, you pay for the costume to use the costume. What's your take on this. |

Really depends on the game. I pay to play an mmorpg with over 1 million active subscribers, and about 7 million people playing the free version. =\ You just need a game with lots of content, and that people are interested in. If Blizzard was to raise the price by like 5 dollars, sure they would have some people yell and scream and quit (As with any mmorpg) but the majority of the players would stay. For the wii, the whole "free online" concept as opposed to paying for xbox live was a pretty big thing for a lot of people. And I'm not sure if we're gonna have to pay for the online for seperate games, or if we just pay a whole bunch of wii points at once and have onlijne for any game for a year. =S It really depends how they utilize it, and what games it is for. I am just wondering, if they do have us pay, does that mean they are going to work more for better and new content? Or would we have gotten that anyways had the game been free? |

Actually, the Pay 2 Play means paying to play games online. DLC (Downloadable Content) means you can add in content to your game to add longetivity. So they are completely different things. |

But it makes sense for a MMO genre to have a continual fee. They have to keep paying to run the servers, so it's not like one set fee would settle it. Plus, you can always stop at any time. I probably won't play the games that have this Pay 2 Play anyways. |

MMO's is great for pay 2 play because there's enough content that will last a very long time. As for P2P for a console game then it's not worth it. I don't think people will pay to play Samba De Amigo Wii online. |

What about X box live ?? Isn't that considered Pay 2 play? You're paying for a service, to play games online? So if you don't wanna pay to play a game online, then your obviously not an advocate for XBL. |

Ya it's considered P2P in that respect but it's also a subscription to all online games so it's not bad at all. P2P for 1 game, especially a handheld one is just stupid. I understand paying for MMO's because there's enough content to last you months and there are updates/new content to make you play the game longer but a Handheld game should not use P2P because it's impossible to add new content to small cartridges and/or UMD's. |

^^ exactly. P2P for a subscription is okay because your playing all types of games online. But paying just to play 1 game is terrible. The only exception is WoW because there's enough content that will last u for ages. |
