From time to time the ambassador will post some new and events occuring in the Continental Union to keep you informed of what's going on. Some things will deal with roleplays, government activities, or sixty seconds of sleeze and vicious rumors that opposing factions leak to the press. Some of our new and events are excerpts taken from articles published by the Continental News Agency.

Happy Veteran's Day!

Several weeks back, the Constitutional Commission completed the final draft of the Founder's Charter and the Canon of Constitutional Law and posted it to the General Membership polls for ratification. As of this date 20 members have cast their votes, 18 for and 2 against ratification. The Constitutional Commission has not yet released the number of votes required to declare ratification and close the constitutional canon.

The Continental Union and the Continental Alliance received a new ambassador from the SFBA. The Stoned Surfer posted this announcement in the SFBA's embassy board. Sources are not sure whether or not The Stoned Surfer is assisting the registered ambassador, Frattastan, or if he is Frattastan's replacement because of his recent election to the SFBA presidency. Nevertheless, The Stoned Surfer dude will fit right in and be a nice addition to the forum.

The Founder's Council announced the opening of Officer Election boards over the next week to allow those interested in regional offices to post their nominations and their political platform. The Founder's Council also announced that it will merge the Ministries of Internal Relations and Foreign Relations into one Ministry of Regional Relations. Yuyis, the current Quæstor General, and Basileus, the current Chancellor have already announced that they will not seek re-election. Basileus has been the region's chancellor since it was founded in February of 2010.

News and Events - Updated 15 December 2011

Sabastos, the Count-Palatine of the Continental Union, declared the Canon of Constitutional Law officially closed after having waited the required period of 15 days after the minimum number of votes were cast during the ratification process. The Continental Union and the Continental Alliance finally have an approved constitution that governs regional activities.

The Regional Founder has called for Regional Officer Elections to be held originally this month; however, several members requested a postponement of Regional Elections until January or February due to the holiday season and current discussions concerning the addition of Regional Ministries to the Chancellery.

In addition to the discussion concerning additional Regional Offices, several members of both the general membership and the Founder's Council are beginning discussions on the openning of the Regional Assembly that will take charge of all legislative matters currently managed by the Founder's Council. The increasing number of members joining the forum and continued migration to the Region have created the need for a functional legislative body as outlined in the now approved Founder's Charter and constitutional law. Letor, the current Minister of Internal Relations, recently reported that activity and membership levels meet the minimum requirements for the openning of the Regional Assembly.

The Continental Union and the Continental Alliance wish all members of the San Francisco Bay Area a very happy and safe holiday!

News and Events Update - 3 March 2012

From this point forward our news agents from the Continental News Agency will take over this function, so there will be a separate topic started for that. Anyhoo...here is what has been going on since the last time we updated:

Regional Officer Elections were held in February with 21 active forum members participating. This time around we did not allow proxy votes from non-forum members, which got at least three members to register. At least four forum members were on vacation during the ten days the polls were open and unable to cast their votes. :( Just before the elections, the Founder's Council approved two Regional Orders-in-Council that required the winner of an election to have at least a 60% majority vote to get the office and another that allowed members to run for two offices.

One officer candidate (for Quaestor General) did not receive the required 60%, so the Founder's Council had to select the winner. This was also the first officer election to offer the "none of the above" option that was legislated by another Regional Order-in-Council approved several months before the election. Many members used this option mostly with those offices where candidates were running for more than one office. Protest remarks for the multi-office scenario were also posted by members opposed to this order. Members are now petitioning the Founder's Council to repeal this order. Below are the election results:

Chancellor = Xanxabara, WA Delegate = Sabastos, Recruiting Minister = Moño, Internal Relations Minister = Dragos, Foreign Relations Minister = Exarchos, Treasury Minister = Magyar, Registrar-Recorder = Letor, and Quæstor General = Cardecion.

The Continental Trust of the Continental Alliance is currently negotiating with the Founder’s Council for additional autonomy. The Founder, Imperator, has already grated the region a separate delegation in some foreign embassies and granted executive powers to the WA Delegate, Basileus, who is also the Trust executive. Currently, the Continental Union acts as the Alliance’s protective power in the area of diplomatic relations.
